The Tamil Nadu Police have officially closed an inquiry into allegations of abuse at the Isha Foundation, stating in a closure report that the claims were unfounded and baseless.
The allegations had initially resurfaced just ahead of the 2025 Mahashivratri celebrations, prompting concerns from Isha Foundation about the timing and perceived intent behind the video’s release. The foundation had previously dismissed the claims as recycled and debunked misinformation, pointing out inconsistencies in the alleged evidence and raising concerns over reputational harm.
The allegations, which emerged from a viral video posted by YouTuber Shyam Meera Singh in February 2025, which parroted the same lies that were peddled by Nakkheeran Gopal, had prompted a preliminary police investigation following a complaint filed by activist Piyush Manush.
According to the closure report filed on 20 June 2025, a team comprising senior officers conducted a thorough investigation into the claims made in Singh’s video, which alleged the exploitation of minors within the Isha Yoga Centre in Coimbatore. The police team examined the content of the video as well as a set of purported internal emails that Singh and earlier, journalist Nakkeeran Gopal, claimed were leaked from within the organisation.
The probe involved detailed interviews with 61 students from Isha Home School and Isha Samskriti. Investigators also contacted 13 staff members, ex-students, volunteers, and visitors who had been associated with Isha Foundation since 2017. Additionally, the cyber wing of the Tamil Nadu Police examined the digital trail of the emails referred to in the video and concluded that the email IDs lacked verifiable login activity. Authorities also said the content of the alleged emails appeared “improbable,” based on interviews and inspection conducted with assistance from child welfare officials.
The police concluded that, “There is no prima facie case made out to register an FIR as alleged in the complaint. Hence, the petition is hereby closed as action dropped.”
This development comes after a February 2025 defamation suit filed by Isha Foundation in the Delhi High Court, seeking removal of Singh’s video titled “Sadhguru EXPOSED: What’s Happening in Jaggi Vasudev’s Ashram”. In an interim order, Justice Subramonium Prasad restrained Singh from publishing or circulating the video further and directed YouTube, X, and Meta to take it down. The court noted that the contents of the video were “per se defamatory” and observed that the video’s title was “clickbait” designed to damage reputations.
