TN Police Arrests Stunt Master Kanal Kannan For Speaking Against EVR, Hindu Munnani Announces State-Wide Protests

Madras HC Says As It Quashes Charges Against Stunt Master Kanal Kannan

Kanal Kannan, a well-known stunt master who had choreographed action sequencces for various movies, has been arrested by the Cyber Crime Wing of Tamil Nadu police for against rabid anti-Hindu demagogue E.V. Ramaswamy Naicker (EVR), known as ‘Periyar’ by his followers.

Addressing an event organized by Hindu Munnani, Kanal Kannan said “Being Hindu is a matter of pride. Earlier, countries were conquered through sword and war. Today they are capturing nations through religious conversion.”

He also shared his personal experience when Christian missionaries had tried to convert him.

Speaking further he said “Lakhs of Hindus worship at the Srirangam Ranganathar Temple daily. Opposite to that (temple), there is a statue of a person who said ‘there is no God’ (referring to EVR). The day that statue is broken, that is the day of Hindu resurgence”.

The statue was erected by the Tamil Nadu government in 2006.

This speech of his has created a controversy in Tamil Nadu with the racist outfits like Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam lodging a complaint against him at the DGP office in Chennai in the first week of August.

Both the Dravidian parties DMK and AIADMK condemned Kanal Kannan for his speech.

AIADMK leader D. Jayakumar said that those who defame leaders like ‘Periyar’, Anna, MGR and Amma should be dealt with an iron hand. He said that the AIADMK would’ve dealt such persons strongly had the party been in power.

BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai had come out in support of the stunt master stating that it is not acceptable to have a statue on the way to a temple that says “There is no God and those who believe in God are fools”. He said that the statue can be kept elsewhere but not in front of the temple.

Kamal Kannan who was arrested in Puducherry on Monday (August 15) has been booked under Sections 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot), and 505 (1) (b) (causing fear or alarm to the public) of the Indian Penal Code. A few days ago, a district court had rejected his anticipatory bail.

The Hindu Munnani has condemned the arrest of Kanal Kannan and has called for state-wide agitation.

In a statement, Hindu Munnani head Kadeswara Subramaniam called Kannan’s arrest as an attack on free speech of Hindus by the DMK government.

He said that the DMK government has been selectively targeting and attacking those who speak for Hindu rights while giving a free pass to those who made anti-Hindu and anti-national elements.

Mr. Subramaniam pointed out the cases of U2 Brutus ‘Minor’ who had abused Hindu God Lord Shiva and Christian Pastor Jagath Gasper where he had instigated Muslims to ask for a separate land.

“Demonstration will be held across Tamil Nadu at 11 AM tomorrow to condemn the dictatorial trend of the Tamil Nadu government. The continued anti-Hindu discriminatory attitude of the Tamil Nadu government is creating great anger in the minds of the people. This should be stopped.”, he said.
