TN Congress Protests Against TN BJP At Nagore Dargah Over The Latter Supporting Hindus Claim Over Thiruparankundram Temple Hill

After facing opposition from its political ally, the DMK, and the ruling government in Tamil Nadu, the Tamil Nadu Congress (TNCC) found itself unable to take any action against the BJP or the Hindu groups protesting at the Thiruparankundram hills. Despite this, Congress cadres in the state had been praying at the Nagore Dargah in Nagapattinam district.

Amid the large protests organized by the Hindu Munani to protect the sanctity of the temple, TNCC chief Selvaperunthagai announced in a press conference that he would visit both the Thiruparankundram and Sikkandar Dargah to promote religious harmony. However, his statement faced severe criticism within the party, and the plan was later scrapped after the ruling DMK denied permission and the police intervened.

Meanwhile, local Congress cadres in the Nagapattinam district aligned themselves with their leader’s intentions by visiting the Nagore Dargah to pray for Tamil Nadu BJP chief Annamalai and senior BJP leader H. Raja, believing they were responsible for inciting the Hindu protests. The event was presided over by Congress state executive member Manickavasagam, with Congress members praying with photographs of Annamalai and H. Raja, asking for them to be guided toward promoting unity rather than division between Hindus and Muslims over the Thiruparankundram issue.

This move was widely ridiculed by critics, who pointed out the irony of a party that once ruled the state now being unable to take any significant action without the approval of its ally, the DMK.
