TN BJP President Annamalai Accuses DMK Govt Of Security Lapse During PM’s Visit For Chess Olympiad

The Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made a major allegation against the DMK government, claiming there was a major security lapse during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Chennai for the inauguration of the Chess Olympiad, which was held on July 29, 2022.

BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai, in a statement issued today, said,”Handheld metal detectors, door frame metal detectors, and bomb detectors, were outdated and long overdue for maintenance and replacement.”

He added that despite the Tamil Nadu BJP highlighting ADGP Intelligence Davidson Devasirvatham’s involvement in the fake passport scam earlier, the DMK government failed to take any action and has been protecting him, allowing him to continue in a very sensitive department.

Annamalai stated that law and order in the DMK-ruled Tamil Nadu are deteriorating by the day highlight the recent Coimbatore bomb blast, Kallakurichi riots, PFI bombings, and numerous other incidents that demonstrate intelligence failure. He said that the state intelligence is being used to settle political scores rather than for the purpose for which it was created.

He continued,”Instead of ordering a probe and fixing responsibility after the central agencies pointed out the lapses in PM’s security, a circular has been sent by ADGP, Intelligence to upkeep the security gadgets. DMK government has goofed up the security of VVIPs in vital areas and has failed to provide proper security with functional security devices and thus has compromised the security of the Prime Minister. ”

He also stated that, aside from PM and VVIP security, most of the security devices installed in vital installations such as temples and historical sites are of poor quality.

Annamalai urged the DMK government to conduct an independent, impartial investigation and hold those responsible accountable, as well as to conduct a comprehensive security audit on the devices.

Following the incident, Tamil Nadu BJP chief Annamalai met with state Governor RN Ravi and presented him with a memorandum containing evidence of the state government’s wrongdoing, urging him to take the necessary action to address the state’s deteriorating law and order.

In a separate memorandum, Annamalai demanded action on the DMK government’s rampant corruption in Jal Jeevan implementation in Tamil Nadu, as well as an independent audit.
