After the recent Lok Sabha elections, where the BJP-led NDA secured a majority, Narendra Modi took oath as Prime Minister for his third consecutive term on 9 June 2024, along with 30 new Union Ministers. Following this, BJP leaders from Tamil Nadu met the newly appointed Union Ministers to congratulate them and present demands for the state’s development.
One such meeting took place between SG Suryah, the BJP state secretary of Tamil Nadu, and Manohar Lal Khattar, the newly sworn-in Union Minister for Housing and Urban Development. During this meeting, Surya felicitated Khattar and emphasized the need for special attention towards infrastructure and development projects in Chennai, the metropolitan city.
Khattar assured Surya that the Modi government would fully contribute to the development of infrastructure and housing initiatives in Chennai. Surya expressed his intention to return with specific project proposals and development work requests for the city. Notably, Khattar is well-versed in the Tamil language and can converse fluently in it.
Following the meeting, taking to his official X handle, Suryah wrote, “#Chennai as an important metro city & a power center of India needs big ticket infra push in the coming years. Today, I called on the new Union Cabinet Minister for Housing & Urban Affairs Thiru.@mlkhattar in #NewDelhi & discussed the pressing needs of Chennai city. He promised to extend any & every help needed for Chennai’s development at the regular basis. With the support of PM @narendramodi Govt. we intend to develop our Chennai as best as possible.”
He further added, “I received a reply saying that he will soon come with requests regarding the projects and development works needed for our city. It is additional information that he is well versed in Tamil language and can speak Tamil fluently.”
