TN BJP Chief Annamalai Slams CM Stalin For Failing To Secure TN’s Cauvery Water Share From Karnataka

Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai has emphasized that Chief Minister MK Stalin has failed to exert pressure on Karnataka for Tamil Nadu’s rightful share of Cauvery river water, accusing him of sacrificing the welfare of Tamil Nadu farmers to their alliance state.

In a statement on his official X handle, the state BJP chief highlighted that the opening of the Mettur dam for Cauvery delta irrigation was delayed beyond its usual 12th June schedule due to insufficient water inflow into the reservoir. Last year, Tamil Nadu received only 81.4 tmc ft of Cauvery water against the expected 177.25 tmc ft from Karnataka during that period. The failure to secure even half of Tamil Nadu’s rightful share of Cauvery water highlights the ineffectiveness of the ruling DMK government. Stalin’s allegiance to the I.N.D.I.A bloc, formed by the DMK and Congress, has evidently compromised the welfare of Tamil Nadu farmers. The farmers are grappling with inadequate water for their crops, yet Mr. Stalin seems indifferent to their plight.

He called upon the Chief Minister to prioritize Tamil Nadu farmers’ well-being over political alliances and promptly address the issue of securing the state’s due share of Cauvery River water from Karnataka.

Annamalai wrote, “In Cauvery water, the water received last year was only 81.4 TMC. The fact that Tamil Nadu, which is supposed to get 177.25 TMC of water per year, is not getting even half of it shows the incompetence of the DMK government. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr.Stalin has completely pledged the interests of Tamil Nadu farmers for the benefit of DMK Congress opportunistic I.N.D.I alliance.”

“Due to lack of adequate water flow in Cauvery, the Mettur Dam, which was supposed to be opened for agriculture on June 12 this year, was not opened, leaving farmers without water for irrigation. But Chief Minister Stalin had no qualms about this. How can Chief Minister Stalin, who claims to be a delta man and walks in the field laying concrete roads, understand the suffering of the farmers? I urge Chief Minister Stalin, for the sake of his alliance, to stop ignoring the welfare of Tamil Nadu farmers and immediately take steps to get Tamil Nadu’s share of Cauvery water.”
