Tiruvannamalai: Man Killed After Being Hit By Vehicle Carrying DMK Cadres Returning From Youth Wing Meet; Body Dragged 200 Metres, Villagers Protest

A man was killed in Tiruvannamalai district after being hit by a vehicle carrying DMK cadres returning from a Youth Wing programme, triggering protests and traffic disruption in the area on Sunday, 14 December 2025.

The incident occurred near Keezh Pennathur when a vehicle carrying DMK members returning from a meeting organised by the DMK North Zone Youth Wing struck Seenu, a resident of Sirunathur village, who was standing by the roadside. Police sources said Seenu died on the spot, and his body was dragged for nearly 200 metres after the impact.

According to sources, the vehicle was part of the convoy returning from the DMK Youth Wing conference attended by Chief Minister MK Stalin. After the conference, the Chief Minister was travelling towards Keel Pennathur to inaugurate a statue of former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, and one of the vehicles following the convoy is suspected to have been involved in the accident.

Angered by the incident, villagers and relatives of the deceased staged a road-roko protest on the Tiruvannamalai–Chennai national highway, demanding action. During the protest, some vehicles belonging to DMK cadres were damaged, with protesters allegedly breaking windowpanes.

Police intervened to disperse the protesters, leading to heated arguments at the spot. A light lathi-charge was carried out to clear the road, following which several people were chased and detained by the police, sources said.

The protest resulted in traffic disruption on the highway for several hours before normalcy was restored. Police said further investigation into the incident is under way.
