A shocking case involving murder, sexual exploitation, and large-scale fraud allegedly committed by a Christian preacher, Pastor Millan Singh, has come to light in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu.
The matter surfaced during a Madras High Court hearing on a habeas corpus petition filed by C. Gnanaiah (50), an agricultural labourer whose daughter, G. Anbu Stella (24), had been missing since September 2010. For over a year, local police reportedly brushed aside his repeated complaints, citing jurisdictional hurdles.
Investigations revealed that Pastor Millan Singh was involved in the sexual assault and murder of Anbu Stella and had also attempted to kill another woman, K. Gandhimathi (30). Police further discovered that he had duped over 40 women by extracting money from them under the false promise of securing government jobs.
According to police reports, Millan Singh (46), a differently abled pastor from Ukkirankottai near Manur who ran a church in Narippaiyur, Ramanathapuram district, took ₹4.5 lakh and 15 sovereigns of gold from Gandhimathi, promising her a job. When she pressed him for results, he lured her to Sankarankovil, drove her towards a government office, and then shoved her out of a moving vehicle before fleeing. Injured, Gandhimathi filed a police complaint, leading to his arrest.
During interrogation, Singh’s fraudulent network of scams was exposed. Among the victims was Anbu Stella, who had paid him ₹3 lakh in hopes of a job. Investigations revealed that Milansingh had confined her in a rented house in Dharmapuri, where he sexually assaulted her resulted in pregnancy. When Stella insisted on marriage, Singh, with the assistance of his wife Jeevitha, allegedly murdered her in Kaveripakkam and attempted to cover up the crime. Her father’s persistent efforts finally brought the case to light, resulting in the couple’s arrest. With Jeevitha’s help, he attempted to destroy evidence by burning the body along the Dharmapuri–Krishnagiri National Highway.
In this backdrop, the couples pastor Milansingh and his wife Jeevitha sentenced to life imprisonment on 29 August 2025 for their role in the 2016 murder. The couple was arrested, and the case proceeded to trial at the Krishnagiri District Mahila Fast Track Court. On Friday, the court found both guilty of murder and evidence tampering, sentencing them to life imprisonment along with a fine of ₹7,000.
The Madras High Court, while hearing Gnanaiah’s petition, observed that Stella’s life might have been spared had the police acted swiftly on his original complaint instead of delaying the investigation.
Reports indicate that Singh was associated with Living God’s Church in Narippaiyur, Ramanathapuram. Despite the horrific nature of the crimes, national media has largely remained silent, choosing instead to focus on political controversies and celebrity news. Notably, neither the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) nor other prominent Christian organizations have publicly addressed the scandal, and the Tamil Nadu police and administration have also faced criticism for their apparent negligence in responding to a poor father’s plea for justice.
