The three-day Yaksha festival, an exuberant festival of classical music & dance by world-renowned artists began today at the Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore. Executive Trustee of Shankara Eye Foundation, Padma Shri Dr. R.V. Ramani lighted the lamp to inaugurate the festival.
Hindustani classical vocalist Jayateerth Mevundi performed on the first day of the festival. Known as a powerful and versatile vocalist, he is the proud recipient of several awards, including the prestigious Pune-based “Pula Deshpande” award for Classical Music. Befitting his stature, the powerful rendition mesmerized the hundreds of spectators from around the world watching his performance.
The following two days of the festival will witness Carnatic flutist Shashank Subramanyam and Madhavi Mudgal’s Dance Group performing Odissi on February 16th and 17th respectively. The performances are happening in Suryakund in Isha Yoga Center from 7 PM to 9 PM. All are welcome to attend the event for free. The performance is also livestreamed online.
Named after celestial beings in Indian mythology, Yaksha provides a platform for great artists to perform and connoisseurs to appreciate these ancient arts performed by masters. India’s various art forms are not only a reflection of diverse cultures but also a source of spiritual inspiration for thousands of years. Yaksha thus is an endeavor to preserve and promote the uniqueness, purity, and diversity of the country’s performing arts.
The Yaksha Festival comes ahead of the iconic Mahashivratri festival in Isha on February 18th. The nightlong festival includes Satsang and Guided Meditation by Sadhguru combined with breathtaking performances from artists across India.
