Thousands of hygiene workers thrown out of jobs by DMK govt in Tamil Nadu: NCSK Chairman Ma. Venkatesan

In a recent press meet, the Chairman of the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis Ma. Venkatesan has exposed the true reality of the DMK governance in Tamil Nadu. Venkatesan narrates an ordeal that a woman sanitary worker went through in Kuttalam in Tenkasi, Tamil Nadu. He also mentioned that around 3000 hygiene workers across the state have been thrown out of their jobs by the DMK government leaving them on the streets.

Nadhiya from Kuttalam, consumed rat poison and was admitted in the hospital after she was fired from her job. Consuming poison was not her first response. She first approached the government officer related to the issue, who diverted her to DMK Kuttalam Secretary.

“When she approached the Secretary, he said that she cannot continue her job because she was hired by the previously ruling government. He also said that as the DMK has come to power, they will only take those who voted them to power. I have full evidence while I say this, as Nadhiya has submitted a written complaint,” Ma. Venkatesan said.

Nadhiya gave her complaint and even spoke to news channels from the hospital, but passed away three days later. Complaints had been filed on Samsudeen, the DMK Secretary and his Deputy Secretary Shanmugham, but no action has been taken on them. “All over Tamil Nadu, so many women, especially from the SC, ST and the OBC communities have been fired and they’re all currently without a job,” Ma. Venkatesan added.

All those who have been fired have sincerely done their job for the past 5 years, from 2016. They even worked hard during the COVID-19 pandemic and many even contracted the virus because of this. Although they were only Sanitation workers, they did a lot more than what they were required to do during the pandemic, because of lack of workers.

“I have already met with the Governor and filed a petition with him regarding this issue. I have also given a letter to Hardip Singh Puri, the Central Minister in-charge and have asked him to investigate the matter,” Venkatesan concluded. Check out his full speech here:
