‘Thooya Sakthi’ TVK Magic? Former AIADMK Functionary Joins TVK; Closed TASMAC Shop Reopens Days Later

joseph Vijay Once Mocked “Bottle-Ku Pathu Rooba”; Now TASMAC Faces Fresh Extra Charge Allegations

Residents of Thirupparankundram in Madurai district have alleged that a TASMAC liquor outlet, which had earlier been shut down along with two other shops following public protests, has now resumed operations despite continuing opposition from the local community.

The liquor shops had been functioning near a girls’ school, a government hospital and the railway line, prompting residents to demand their closure. Following sustained protests, three TASMAC outlets in the area were reportedly shut down in the name of an order issued by Chief Minister Vijay’s government.

However, one of the closed outlets was reopened few days ago, triggering fresh anger among local residents. When questioned about the reopening, shop employees allegedly informed residents that no official closure order had been issued for the particular outlet.

The development has fuelled controversy after locals pointed out that the bar licence associated with the outlet is held by Selvam, a former AIADMK functionary who has since joined TVK. Residents have begun questioning whether political influence played a role in the outlet’s reopening, though no official explanation has yet been provided by either TASMAC authorities or the state government.

With the liquor shop continuing to operate near sensitive public institutions, residents have renewed their demand for its immediate closure and have called upon the district administration to clarify the circumstances under which the outlet was allowed to resume business.
