A brick kiln supervisor was hacked to death inside his home in Tiruvarur district in the early hours of the morning of 30 May 2026 after a six-member gang allegedly broke into the house and attacked him in front of his wife and daughter, as reported in Daily Thanthi.

The victim was identified as Thirumurugan, a resident of MGR Nagar in Sengalipuram, Tiruvarur district. He lived with his wife Sudha, son Suman and daughter Piyas, and was employed as a supervisor at a nearby brick kiln.

According to police, Thirumurugan and his family were asleep inside their house when a six-member gang allegedly arrived and broke open the front door. Startled by the sound of the door being forced open, the family woke up in shock.

Police said the assailants then stormed into the house and attacked Thirumurugan with sickles. The attack took place in the presence of his wife and daughter.

Sudha and her daughter reportedly tried to intervene and prevent the assault, but the gang allegedly attacked them as well. Thirumurugan sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot, while Sudha suffered serious injuries.

After carrying out the attack, the assailants fled the scene.

Upon receiving information about the incident, personnel from the Kudavasal Police Station rushed to the spot. Thirumurugan’s body was recovered and sent to the Thanjavur Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. Sudha was also admitted to the same hospital for treatment.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the murder. Investigators are examining multiple angles, including the possibility of previous enmity or a dispute linked to the victim’s profession.

Three special teams have been formed to trace and arrest the suspects who remain absconding.

Meanwhile, police have detained two persons on suspicion in connection with the murder and are questioning them as part of the investigation.

The killing triggered protests by Thirumurugan’s relatives, who staged a road blockade demanding action against those responsible.
