The temple elephant from Sri Vidya Rajagopalaswamy temple in Mannargudi, Tamil Nadu, in winning hearts all over the internet with her cuteness. This elephant, dubbed “Bob-cut Sengamalam”, is the latest internet sensation. The elephant’s name literally translates to “red lotus”.
This elephant became famous after Indian Forest Services (IFS) officer Sudha Ramen tweeted her photos. This received over 22,000 reshares and comments and became viral. There was even a fan club started in her name. Many people even shared their pictures with Bob-cut Sengamalam, and they are extremely heartwarming.
This is the second time that Sengamalam’s pictures have gone viral. Back in February, TRB Raja, a DMK MLA, had tweeted her images, saying she was one of the temple elephants that were allowed to roam and play freely.
S. Rajagopal, the “mahout” or the one who tends to “bob-cut Sengamalam”, mentioned that maintaining her mane is no easy feat. “Sengamalam is like my child. I wanted her to have a special look”. He had reportedly spent over ₹45,000 to make sure she had showers throughout the summer season to stay cool. She also has her hair regularly washed with special anti-dandruff shampoo, and special care is taken to brush and maintain her hair.
