Theemai Kadhaigal: TN BJP Brings Back Anniyan To Expose Dravidian Model Of Healthcare

The Tamil Nadu BJP has released a video titled “Theemai Kadhaigal”, in which it hit out at the DMK over the plight of the medical infrastructure in the state and its failure to fulfill promises it made during the elections.

The video revives the character of ‘Anniyan’, a vigilante character from a movie of the same name who fights against corruption.

The video shows how Tamil Nadu which was once the cradle of medical science in the ancient times has now degenerated into a state where medical negligence is the order of the day. It highlighted how DMK leaders and Ministers get treated at Kauvery Hospital while poor people get sub-standard treatment at government hospitals.

The history of medicine is as old as history of human clan. Inscriptions of Chola period mention the existence of hospitals and medical colleges in Tamil Nadu. Siddha medicine took root in Bharat through sages like Agasthiyar, Thirumoolar, Bogar etc. Surgeries were performed in Tamil Nadu during the Satyug Period. Tamil Nadu had reached great heights in the field of medicine with a very strong infranstructure. But today? When Muthuvel Karunanidhi took oath as  the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. People who believed that Tamil Nadu will move forward on the path of development, do not know that all the sectors are going to face heavy downfall.” it said.

The video points out instances of medical negligence that happened in the state. Many of these instances were highlighted by The Commune in an article dated 29 September 2023.

On 25 September 2023, five babies were still born over two days at Kallakurichi district medical college hospital.

On 14 June 2023, a complaint was raised that a woman had died due to lack of doctors in Thiruvarur government hospital.

On 24 September 2023, in an incident near Annoor, in Coimbatore, a woman tragically died due to failure of doctors to attend delivery on time.

On 15 November 2023, football player Priya who lost her legs due to wrong treatment eventually died.

On 31 December 2023, a one and half year old child from Ramanathapuram had right arm amputated due to improper treatment and died finally. Her mother said, “If the doctor had been there for those three days, my child wouldn’t have lost an arm and I wouldn’t have lost my child today.

The video alleged that in the DMK regime, the health department under Ma. Subramanian has been virtually non-functioning. It noted even the basic facilities in government hospitals in Tamil Nadu are improper.

The National Medical Commission has revoked the recognition of three colleges owned by the Tamil Nadu government owing to the colleges lacking proper infrastructure. At that time it was noted that the CCTV cameras and biometric system were not in place. However, the DMK Health Minister had said that it was an issue that can be fixed in half an hour.

Does the Minister realize that this takes only half an hour to repair after the recognition was rejected?“, the video asks.

The video then goes on to show how even DMK ministers rely on private hospitals with visuals of DMK Minister Senthil Balaji getting admitted to hospital complaining chest pain during ED arrest.

When DMK members fall ill, they turn to Kauvery Hospital. What about the less privileged individuals who rely on government hospitals?“, the Anniyan in the video asks

The video also pointed out the seemingly apathetic response of the DMK Health Minister that came against the backdrop of a shocking incident where a woman who went to the Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital for an angio treatment had to get her arm amputated allegedly due to medical negligence of the doctors.

The Anniyan in the video also pointed out how when the Chief Minister and the Health Minister were walking, they were discussing about Udhayanidhi Stalin’s film “Kalaga Thalaivan” instead of how things are functioning under the health department.

The Chief Minister had asked, “How is the film going? Have you seen it?” to which Health Minister Ma. Subramanian replies “Ah, I saw it on the first day. The report is good. Yes, it is very good. Usually,  at least one person gets up and walks out when a song plays it in a theatre but not in this movie. Film making is good.

We used to be the capital of the medical science. But today we are using paper cups as masks due to lack of oxygen masks. Using mobile phone torches for treatment due to lack of electricity. This kind of disgrace is happening only in Tamil Nadu. The quality of government hospitals is deteriorating.“, the video says.

The video also points out how the DMK has been doing politics over NEET by making false promises.

The recent protest by nurses were also highlighted over the DMK not fulfilling its promise number 356 in its manifesto.

The rich and the influential get the better treatment. while the poor people get very poor treatment. The loss of lives due to DMK Government’s medical negligence has become a casual occurrence. The medical mismanagement is happening here is continuing like a contagious disease. Only poor people are affected in every medical death. The concern DMK shows for a person’s vote. Why don’t they care for their lives? Now tell, will you tell them their punishment, at the polling station? #RejectDMK“, the video ends.
