The truth about a BJP candidate getting 1 vote in local body elections

Counting for the Tamil Nadu local body elections that were held last week, started on Tuesday (October 12) with the DMK comfortably placed for a ‘victory’.

However, DMK family owned media houses like Sun News and other news channels having close ties with the party published news that a BJP candidate from Tamil Nadu secured just one vote with even his family members not voting for him.

The News Minute which is supposedly a ‘neutral’ media house but blatantly tows the line of the DMK also resorted to join the chorus.

However, the truth of the matter is that the candidate named Karthik, had contested from the Periyanaickenpalayam union Kurudampalayam panchayat ward number 9 as an independent candidate.  Although he is a member of the BJP, he did not contest on the lotus symbol.

Also, since his family had their votes in ward number 4, they could not vote for him which was misconstrued by the DMK-friendly media that even his family members didn’t vote for him.

Elections were held on October 6 and 9 to fill 27,003 posts including 140 district panchayat ward members, 74 panchayat unions, 1,381 panchayat union ward members, 2,901 village panchayat presidents and 22,581 village panchayat ward councillors.

The results of local body elections which is conducted by the state election commission usually comes in favour of the ruling party in the state. People vote knowing that if they elect any other candidate apart from the ruling party, the developmental works in their villages would take a back seat.
