Thanthi TV Takes Down Video Trolling Udhayanidhi Stalin

Thanthi TV has taken down a video trolling Tamil Nadu CM’s son Udhayanidhi Stalin and the value of Red Giant Movies, in yet another display of mainstream media support for the ruling DMK.

On April 14th, Annamalai revealed the details of ₹1.34 lakh crores in property amassed illegally by the DMK leaders while in power. As part of the first list, Annamalai released the property details of first 12 DMK leaders. Annamalai questioned how Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s son Udhayanidhi Stalin could own Red Giant Movies, which is worth over 2000 crores. Following the release of the DMK Files, the DMK and Udhayanidhi filed a defamation suit against Annamalai, seeking a total of 550 crores in damages. Several other DMK leaders also sent Annamalai defamation suits. Annamalai stated on Twitter that he had received more than 1000 crores in damages from DMK leaders.

In light of this incident, speaking at the Dakshin Media & Entertainment Summit 2023 in Chennai, Udhayanidhi Stalin said, “I have avoided attending film-related events for the past four months. From 2007 to 2022, I worked in the film industry. Red Giant Movies has been in operation for nearly 15 years. I have produced 15 films on my own. I’ve appeared in 15 films. In addition, I have distributed quality films.

Referring to Annamalai’s allegation, Udhayanidhi said, “Even now, 3 days ago someone said that Red Giant’s assets are worth ₹2000 Crores. All producers here know very well what the truth is. I don’t want to talk about it. A producer knows the plight of another producer.”

This claim by Udhayanidhi about his difficulties running Red Giant Movies was mocked on social media, as it is Red Giant Movies that has produced a large number of major Tamil films since the DMK took power in May 2021.

In one such attempt to mock Udhayanidhi Stalin, Thanthi TV’s ‘Yezharai’ show used a video meme to mock his speech. They used a scene from Prabhu and Goundamani’s 1990 film “My Dear Marthandam,” in which Prabhu, a prince, wanted to act poor but was caught by Goundamani. In the film, Prabhu, who lived a lavish life in the palace, does not know how to act like a poor person and gets caught by Goundamani.

Thanthi TV used this scene to mock Udhayanidhi for his speech expaining his plight as producer. However, Thanthi TV later deleted the video for reasons known only to them. However, netizens downloaded the video before it was deleted since they knew it would be removed given that the media is controlled by the DMK and they will not allow a video to mock Prince Udhayanidhi. Thanthi TV’s deleted video mocking Udhayanidhi is now going viral on social media.
