The case of the 17-yr-old Hindu girl from Thanjavur who committed suicide after alleging that she was tortured to be forcefully converted has created quite the stir. Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai has now said that the DMK, ruling party in Tamil Nadu, is trying to mislead the case, and handle the child’s suicide very causally.
In an interview to The Hindu, School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi has given a clean chit to the school saying that none of the other students in the school complained of conversion.
“Christian students in that area accord priority to education. They have not made use of the opportunity to convert students to Christianity. Truth will come out only after a thorough enquiry.”, the DMK Minister had said.
Speaking about the issue, Annamalai said, “DMK Minister Anbil Mahesh, had already written the verdict to the case when he met the press. He spoke with assurity on the pretext that the student was not forcefully converted. Minister Anbil Mahesh has said that he enquired a few students of the school, on behalf of the ministry of education, and that they all said that the school was not involved in proselytising activities.
However, the school has subjected the child to severe mental agony, in order to convert her to Christianity. They have also threatened the students against revealing this torture. Due to this reason, the child consumed poison and attempted suicide, as a last way out. The child has shared this incident with her relatives in the hospital. DMK is trying to wrongly portray what the student had spoken in the video. Therefore, a situation has come for us to approach the court on behalf of the student’s relatives.
In addition, the Minister has said that the child has not been forced to convert at all. It seems he wrote the verdict to the case before the investigation itself, when he met the press. Similarly, the Police of the state are also working in support of the DMK government. So, the child will not get the justice she needs, if they’re to be trusted. The cause of the death will only be known if the CBI conducts an enquiry into the case,” he said.
