K.V. Kuppam police are investigating the theft of idols from Porpanai Eshwaran Temple located inside Vadavirinchipuram Government Banana Farm Research Center Campus, Vellore.
Priest Maheswaran, 56, locked the temple and left, the day before yesterday. When he arrived yesterday morning, he saw the lock of the front door was broken and the temple was left open. Going inside, he saw that the two Shiva and Parvati idols worth Rs 50,000 were stolen. Based on the complaint filed by the temple authority, Police and Forensic experts rushed to the scene. The CCTV footage of nearby houses was also checked to nab the criminals.
Following the incident, residents from the surrounding area assembled outside the temple and demanded that those responsible be punished.
