In a new controversy brewing at the revered Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple in Srirangam, temple activist Rangarajan Narasimham has alleged that a DMK functionary was distributing unsanctified prasadam to devotees. His allegation gained significance following the recent Tirupati Laddu prasadam issue after a laboratory report revealed the possible presence of lard, beef tallow, and fish oil in cow ghee used for Tirupati Laddu prasadam during the YSRCP.
According to Rangarajan Narasimhan, Ramkumar, a prominent ‘DMK goon’ in Trichy, has been accused of disrupting temple traditions by distributing unsanctified food within the temple premises outside the Aryabhatal Vasal. Ramkumar and a group of individuals allegedly brought in by van entered the temple and began distributing the unsanctified food.
Devotees, unaware of the background or contents of the offerings, partook in the food, which has sparked outrage among traditionalists and devotees alike.
Allegedly, the food was prepared outside the temple, raising concerns about the unknown origins and the ingredients’ suitability. This distribution was reportedly conducted without any authorization from temple authorities. Notably, the temple falls under the Tamil Nadu government’s Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department.
The temple’s Joint Commissioner (JC) and Executive Officer (EO) have also faced criticism for their perceived inaction, with accusations of allowing such incidents to occur in broad daylight. The Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (TNHRCE) Department has been called upon to explain the lapse in temple protocol, with Rangarajan Narasimhan filing a formal complaint with the HR&CE Commissioner.
In his complaint, he said, “On an auspicious day of Purattasi Sanikkazhimai, when the Periya Avasaram, afternoon Pooja, has not been performed to the Temple for the past several years, such acts of individuals, particularly belonging to political parties, coming inside the temple and doing as they please are an act of blasphemy punishable by law.” He questioned the HR&CE officials if the department had authorized the DMK functionary to distribute eatables prepared outside the temple.
“No one knows what was mixed in the eatable brought in by the DMK functionary, the party rooted in the desecration of Sanatana Dharma. Moreover, the used vessel is an aluminium vessel, which is totally against Agama Shastra of Sri Vaishnava Sampradaya”. Rangarajan said.
He also questioned who would take the responsibility if someone were to fall sick by consuming such unsanctified prasadam.
Rangarajan also said that he would move to the High Court if he didn’t get a response to the complaint filed with the HR&CE department within three days.
