TASMAC to be opened from Monday, opposition lashes out at DMK’s hypocrisy

On Friday, the Tamil Nadu government announced that the ongoing lockdown will be extended for another week with more relaxation.

Starting Monday (June 14), salons, spas, and beauty parlours in 27 non-hotspot districts can function at 50% customer capcity from 6 AM to 5 PM.

Offices of the IT sector can now operate with 20 per cent attendance or with a maximum of 10 employees. Schools and colleges will remain closed.

However, the state run liquor shops TASMAC where crowds gather everyday has been allowed to function from 10 AM to 5 PM.

This decision comes at a time when Tamil Nadu has been topping the list of new cases, active cases and death in the entire country.

It is to be remembered that just a few weeks ago, when the AIADMK was in power, the DMK made a huge hue and cry and organized protests when the previous government allowed TASMACs to open after relaxing the lockdown.

Chief Minister MK Stalin had back then wore a black attire with one hand holding a black flag and another holding a placard with the line “Give 5000 rupees to bottom section of the people. Why open liquor shops during lockdown?”

BJP leaders lashed out at the DMK for the decision to open TASMAC at a time when the second wave of the virus is yet to subside.

BJP Tamil Nadu Vice President K. Annamalai said that opening up of TASMAC shops in TN from June 14 clearly shows the priority of the DMK government while pointing out the U-turn that they have made after coming to power.

Coimbatore South MLA and BJP National Women’s Wing President Vanathi Srinivasan said “At a time when thousands are getting infected and hundreds are dying, is opening TASMAC necessary?” She also took a jibe at MK Stalin’s sister Kanimozhi who had condemned the previous AIADMK government opening TASMAC.

BJP Spokesperson SG Suryah in a tweet came down heavy on the DMK government for opening TASMAC at a time when Tamil Nadu has topped the daily corona cases for 24 consecutive days and livelihood of people are in tatters following the 1 month lockdown.

BJP Tamil Nadu Spokesperson K.T. Raghavan too took a dig at Chief Minister Stalin asking him to take into consideration his own words when he was opposition leader.

PMK founder Dr. Ramadoss also condemned the move of the DMK government

Netizens too took to social media pointing out the hypocrisy and have been lashing out at the DMK’s double talk for opening TASMACs .
