Tamil Nadu Police Nab 7 Illegal Bangladeshi Immigrants In Perundurai, Erode

In another crackdown on illegal immigration, Tamil Nadu Police have apprehended seven Bangladeshi nationals found residing unlawfully in the Perundurai area of Erode district. Preliminary investigations revealed that the individuals had been employed in textile factories and construction sites, and had been living in the region using forged documents.

Previously, a total of 98 Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested in Tiruppur district in the month of January 2025 for staying without valid documents, with 36 individuals, including one woman, apprehended on Friday alone. The arrests were part of coordinated efforts by the city and district police, supported by central and state intelligence units and the anti-terrorism squad (ATS).

On 24 January 2025, ATS units from Coimbatore conducted searches across various locations in Tiruppur city based on intelligence inputs. During the operation, 20 individuals were apprehended in the 15-Velampalayam area, six in Tiruppur South, and 10 in Nallur. Preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested individuals were employed as daily-wage workers in knitwear and construction companies. In addition to the 36 arrests made on 24 January 2025, 12 Bangladeshi nationals were arrested earlier this week during a raid in the Nallur area. Police conducted document verification drives, including checking Aadhaar identity cards, to identify individuals staying illegally.

On 24 September 2024, the Tirupur South Police and the Rapid Response Force were conducting surveillance around the Tirupur Central Bus Station. Officers noticed six individuals behaving suspiciously and proceeded to question them. Upon inspecting their documents, police discovered that all six were Bangladeshi nationals. They were also found in possession of fake Aadhaar cards.

Tanveer, Mohammad Aslam, Mohammad Al Islam, Rasheeb Taun, Mohammad, and Saumun Sheikh were arrested. Further investigation revealed that they had arrived in Tirupur from Bangladesh 15 days prior, seeking employment at a textile manufacturing unit in Mudaliplayam SIDCO. However, the company rejected their application when it was discovered that they were not Indian nationals. The group was later apprehended at the Tirupur bus station while attempting to find work at a private company in Palladam.

On April 2023, Three Bangladeshi nationals, who were staying in Tiruppur without proper documents, have been ordered to be sent back to their home country.

Mohammed Kabir Hussain(34), Mohammed Azad Mia(28) and Mohammed Rishad Mullah(29) were arrested by Tamil Nadu police during a regular patrol in the Tiruppur district, last year. They were residing in Kuppaiyankadu near Anupparpalayam and were working in the neighbourhood. They were caught because they didn’t have any documents to justify their presence.

Police booked them under the Foreigners Act and lodged in Central Prison in Chennai. The case was heard by the Tiruppur district court which has ordered authorities to deport the 3 Bangladeshis.
