The All India Hindu Maha Sabha led by state president Balasubramanian staged a protest demanding the recovery of property belonging to Mandakkadu and Kumarakoil.
Their demands, according to Balasubramanian, include reclaiming 110 acres of Kumarakoil property near Thakkala from a private lease and 40 acres of land belonging to the Mandakadu Bhagwati Amman temple.
They further stated that the properties of these two temples should only be utilized by Hindus, and that non-Hindu temple officials should resign immediately.
Earlier, following a fire accident reported on June 2nd, the temple was thrust into the limelight. Preliminary inquiries revealed that some silk saris kept in front of the sanctum sanctorum caught fire which spread to some parts of the ceiling.
On June 3rd, M.R. Gandhi, BJP MLA from Nagercoil, BJP Tamil Nadu President L Murugan, and MLA Nainar Nagendran visited the world-famous Mandaikadu Bhagavathi Amman Temple after the fire broke out.
