Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai Condemns Attack On News Tamil 24×7 Journalist

In recent times, concerns have been raised about the increasing incidents of attacks on journalists in Tamil Nadu, particularly since the DMK came to power. The latest incident involving the assault on journalist Thangamani during his coverage of illegal water theft from the Cauvery River near Namakkal has drawn attention to the need for swift and decisive action against such acts of violence. Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party President, K. Annamalai, has strongly condemned the attack and called for immediate action against those responsible.

Thangamani’s investigative work shed light on the illegal theft of water from the Cauvery River to dye mills near Namakkal in Tamil Nadu. Such journalistic endeavors play a crucial role in exposing illegal activities that harm the environment and society. The illegal diversion of water, powered by electric motors, not only raises environmental concerns but also poses a threat to the livelihoods of those dependent on the river.

Annamalai expressed his strong condemnation of the attack on Thangamani. In a statement on his X handle, he emphasized the importance of journalists as the fourth pillar of democracy, serving to bring crucial information to the public domain. The attack on Thangamani, he wrote, was not just an assault on an individual journalist but an affront to the principles of democracy and freedom of the press.

Annamalai pointed out that the string of attacks on journalists since the DMK came to power raised serious concerns about the safety of those exercising their democratic right to report on issues affecting the public. He accused the DMK government of making a mockery of democracy by allegedly condoning attacks on journalists and failing to address the broader issue of rising assaults on the media.

The BJP leader has called for immediate and strict action against those involved in the illegal activities Thangamani was covering. He urged the DMK government to uphold democratic values by arresting those responsible for the assault on the journalist.

Just a few days ago, Polimer News cameraperson was attacked by DMK goons for covering the raids at DMK member’s courier office linked to the massive drug bust in the state.

A few weeks earlier, News7 Tamil journalist Nesaprabhu became the victim of a ruthless attack on 24 January 2024 by ‘mysterious men’. The assailants, armed with sickles and knives, inflicted severe injuries on the journalist. It was reported that the attack on Nesaprabhu was likely a repercussion of his recent coverage exposing the illegal sale of liquor in Tirupur.
