Tambaram: Woman Customer Finds Live Worm In Chicken Dish Bought From Alif Biriyani Hotel, Owner Allegedly Removes Worm And Resells It Another Customer

In the heart of Chennai, a shocking incident unfolded when a customer who purchased Chettinad chicken discovered a live worm crawling inside the package. The customer promptly filed a complaint, accompanied by video evidence, sparking widespread concern in the area.

At a hotel called Alif Biryani situated on Mudichur Road in Tambaram, Chennai, a customer bought Chettinad chicken on 26 April 2024. To her dismay, upon opening the package, she found a live worm wriggling amidst the chicken. Disturbed by this, she returned to the shop and brought the issue to the owner’s attention. Surprised by the revelation, the owner allegedly removed the worm from the package and resold it to another customer.

A woman named Revathi spoke to reporters about the incident, detailing her brother’s experience with the worm-infested parcel purchased from Alif Biryani Shop. After discovering the worm, her brother captured video evidence and immediately confronted the shopkeeper. Despite their complaint, the shopkeeper seemingly continued selling contaminated parcels to unsuspecting customers until they intervened. They insist on swift action, having filed a police complaint and urging authorities to address the matter promptly. Despite their efforts, no action has been taken by the Food Safety Authority, leaving the situation unresolved.

Previously, a similar issue arose at SBM Bakery, yet no action was taken by the Food Safety Authority. When questioned further, the proprietor remarked, “I am aware of how to handle my work. I don’t need to be told.” Kamal Basha, the shop’s owner, asserted, “I have operated a business in this vicinity for 19 years without any prior complaints. This is the first time such an allegation has been made. It seems deliberate. I will not deceive, especially on a day as significant as Friday prayer. The claim of finding both live and dead worms is erroneous; there was only one live worm present.” Additionally, he mentioned, “We have issued a formal apology letter to the authorities.”
