After India vacated its consulates in Kandahar and Herat, the Taliban Islamist facilities and looked for any sensitive documents and took away parked vehicles from both the consulates. As per reports, the Taliban are conducting door-to-door searches to identify Afghans who worked for the NDS intelligence agency, reports Hindustan Times.
As per the latest reports, some 6,000 cadres of the banned Haqqani Network has taken control of the capital city Kabul led by Anas Haqqani, brother of Sirajuddin Haqqani who wrote an op-ed in New York Times and deputy leader of the Taliban.
In Kabul, Anas Haqqani met former president Hamid Karzai, Chairman HCNR Abdullah Abdullah and Hezb-e-Islami veteran Gulbuddin Hetkmatyar who has again found some favour with the new regime.
The Taliban are negotiating with both Karzai and Abdullah to stage a formal handing over power to the Taliban leader Mullah Abdul Ghani Barader in the Presidential Palace to keep up with optics.
Sirajuddin Haqqani responsible for the death of many American and NATO soldiers is said to be in Quetta as his cadre take control of Kabul. The other powerful faction is led by Mullah Yaqoob as the head of the Taliban military. It must be noted that Mullah Omar was declared Emir ul Momeen on April 4, 1996 commission which makes his son Yaqoob very powerful.
As of now, Kandhar will again become the traditional seat of power as Mullah Barader met Mullah Yaqoob after he arrived from Doha on August 18 and to ensure all senior leaders are not in the same place, the religious head of the Taliban, Mullah Haibatullah Akundzada, is still based in Karachi in Pakistan.
After the Taliban achieved easy victory with the support of the Pakistan Army and non-state actors like the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) negotiations have started within the Taliban leadership on not only the formation of government at Kabul but more importantly the division of wealth i.e. Maal e Ghanimat, meaning spoils of war which will also allegedly include sex slaves.
JeM took an active part in this campaign and this Deobandi inspired terrorist group responsible for the Pulwama suicide attack, is demanding jagirs or land grants in south Afghanistan.
Also, talks are underway to share the cache of American weapons taken from the Afghan army and the military vehicles that have been seized by the new invaders.
