The IITs have been in the news for all the wrong reasons over the past year, especially the Humanities departments in their institution. Earlier it was IIT Bombay and IIT Gandhinagar, along with a couple of other woke instances in other IITs. But now IIT Delhi’s Humanities department has gained the spotlight.

Recently, the institution was in the news for the woke caste conference conducted in mid-January 2026.

Caste Conference

The conference titled Critical Philosophy of Caste and Race (CPCR3), held at IIT Delhi from January 16 to 18, 2026, has triggered controversy and prompted the institute to initiate a formal fact-finding inquiry. The event, organised by the Humanities and Social Sciences department, came under criticism after its agenda and speakers were publicly circulated, drawing allegations that it promoted a one-sided ideological perspective under the guise of academic scholarship.

The conference featured sessions comparing caste in India with racial conflicts elsewhere, including a presentation linking Dalits and Palestinians, discussions framed around the 2001 Durban conference on racism, and events such as a book launch and film screening focused on caste and power structures. Critics alleged that the programme relied heavily on Western critical theory frameworks and lacked diverse or dissenting academic viewpoints.

Interestingly, the speakers include Thenmozhi Soundararajan – a US-based activist and the founder of Equality Labs, an organization that claims to advocate for Dalit and marginalized community rights.

Her work, however, places her at the center of a complex web of controversy, linking her to anti-India propaganda, Khalistani extremism, and alleged foreign intelligence networks.

Soundararajan positions herself as a Dalit rights activist, but her methodology and alliances have drawn widespread criticism for promoting division and Hinduphobia. Her organization, Equality Labs, is known for its aggressive push for caste-based legislation in the United States, such as the California SB403 bill. A study by the Network Contagion Research Institute found that Equality Labs’ “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” training materials often used dehumanizing rhetoric against Brahmins, increasing anti-Hindu sentiment among participants.

Her affiliations extend far beyond caste advocacy. Soundararajan has documented ties to designated Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, having shared a stage with him at a 2019 event hosted by his organization, Sikhs for Justice (SFJ). This collaboration connected her to a group openly supporting Pakistan-sponsored terrorism.

Further scrutiny reveals deeper, more alarming connections. Equality Labs is a key member of the Alliance for Justice and Accountability (AJA), a coalition that includes the Organization for Minorities of India (OFMI)—founded by ISI-linked operative Bhajan Singh Bhinder—and the Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC). Investigations have suggested that Equality Labs has received funding from sources linked to both George Soros and Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), with Pakistani citizen Huma Dar, a reported link to the Pakistani Army, serving on its board.

Soundararajan’s public statements consistently reveal a strong anti-Hindu bias. She has labeled the Hindu pilgrimage Maha Kumbh Mela as “Islamophobic,” called for the “de-Brahminization” of Yoga, and launched virulent social media attacks, including one targeting former Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal based on his assumed caste. In 2018, she designed the “Smash Brahminical Patriarchy” poster held by then-Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, a incident that sparked international controversy.

The Architect and a Pattern of Activism – Divya Dwivedi?

At the centre of the storm is Dr. Divya Dwivedi, a faculty member in the HSS department and a primary organiser of CPCR3. Dwivedi’s active online presence is noteworthy – this includes a dedicated YouTube channel and a special journal promoting “critical philosophy of caste and race,” as evidence of a sustained campaign beyond pure academia. Dwivedi advocates for an “India’s future without Hinduism”. During the G20 Summit in New Delhi in September 2023, Divya Dwivedi courted controversy with remarks made to French broadcaster France 24, sharply criticising Hinduism, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and India’s social structure. Dwivedi said she envisioned an “India of the future without Hinduism,” arguing that caste-based oppression continued to dominate the country. She dismissed positive accounts of development, including a rickshaw puller’s experience with Digital India, as “mediatised anecdotes.” Claiming that a small upper-caste minority still controlled most positions of power, she also described the RSS as a “fascist” organisation representing upper-caste supremacy, drawing strong reactions for portraying India negatively on a global platform.

Additionally, in a 2019 NDTV debate, Dwivedi claimed Hinduism was “invented” in the early 20th century to mask caste realities and called the Hindu majority a “false majority.” She alleged that Gandhi helped construct a new Hindu identity that marginalised minorities and lower castes. Dwivedi further argued that upper-caste leaders created Hinduism as a political umbrella and that this legacy should be “discarded.”

Paper Published Portrays Indian Nationalism As ‘Tyrannical’, Advances Separatist Narrative

An academic paper published in 2023 came under renewed scrutiny after circulating widely on social media. The paper, titled “Tyranny of Indian Nationalism and Resistance in Kashmir: Reading a Kashmiri Narrative with Iqbal and Freud,” was published in March 2023 in the journal Psychoanalysis, Culture & Society by Springer Nature. It was authored by Nazia Amin, who was affiliated with IIT Delhi’s Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the time and is now an Assistant Professor at BML Munjal University.

The paper characterises Indian nationalism in Kashmir as “tyrannical,” employing Freudian psychoanalytic concepts such as the “primal horde” to depict the Indian state as a coercive authority demanding submission from Kashmiri subjects. Drawing on Muhammad Iqbal, it frames Kashmiri resistance as a psychological and existential rejection of Indian national identity.

The paper’s language and framing moves beyond scholarly critique into normative advocacy while omitting key aspects of the conflict, including terrorism, the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits, and national security concerns.

‘Woke’ Electives In IIT-D’s Classrooms

Recent course offerings and faculty-linked activism indicate how ideological “wokeness” is increasingly entering IIT Delhi’s humanities ecosystem, raising questions about balance in a publicly funded technical institution. One example is the MA-level elective “Queering Gender and Sexuality: Debates and Issues from India” (HSL684), a 3-credit, multidisciplinary course listed on IIT Delhi’s Humanities and Social Sciences portal, whose stated content includes critiques of the gender binary, politics of identity and sexuality, genealogy of LGBTQIA+ movements, and gender and citizenship.

Screenshots circulating online show the course being publicly celebrated by Vaivab Das, a contributor to The Wire, who stated that he designed the course and explicitly argued for “more trans-queer students in departments to broaden the dialogue,” framing curriculum design in activist terms rather than neutral pedagogy. The same individual has published investigative articles critiquing India’s Transgender Welfare Boards as a “trap,” reinforcing perceptions of a consistent ideological position.

When courses are openly championed as vehicles for activism and promoted by authors associated with overtly ideological media platforms, the line between academic inquiry and agenda-setting blurs. Taken together, these materials have intensified concerns that IIT Delhi’s humanities courses are increasingly shaped by activist frameworks rooted in Western identity politics, with limited visible engagement with alternative intellectual, constitutional, or civilisational perspectives.

QS Rankings or DEI Optics?

It is alleged that IIT Delhi’s recent jump in the QS World University Rankings had less to do with research breakthroughs or technological innovation and more with aligning to fashionable global metrics such as Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). Instead of being driven by path-breaking science, nation-building research, or major inventions, the improvement coincided with the opening of a dedicated DEI office – an indicator increasingly favoured by international ranking frameworks and Western academic journals.

Ideology Over Institution?

Taken together, the caste conference, controversial faculty activism, separatist-leaning scholarship, ideologically driven electives, it all points to a deeper crisis within IIT Delhi’s ecosystem. What is being questioned is not the legitimacy of debate or academic freedom, but the steady drift towards ideological homogeneity in a taxpayer-funded technical institution meant to prioritise balance, rigour, and national responsibility. When activism, selective narratives, and imported identity frameworks dominate classrooms and conferences, the line between scholarship and advocacy collapses. The IIT brand was built on intellectual excellence and public trust, allowing it to become a battleground for partisan ideology risks eroding both.

As the world comes to terms with the assassination of Charlie Kirk, a prominent conservative commentator and youth leader closely aligned with Donald Trump, a darker, deeply unsettling trend has surfaced on social media platforms like X. The incident, which occurred on 11 September 2025, at Utah Valley University, has drawn widespread condemnation globally. But in certain corners of Indian social media, it has become a springboard for perverse fantasies targeting Indian right-wing voices, particularly J Sai Deepak and Anand Ranganathan.

While civil societies mourned Kirk’s death and reflected on the growing threats to free speech, a segment of India’s so-called progressive and liberal users on X used the moment to engage in macabre wish-fulfillment.

Starting the very day of the assassination, several Indian users began posting comments eerily imagining similar fates for Indian public figures known for their nationalist and conservative views. The names most frequently targeted were J Sai Deepak, a constitutional lawyer and author, and Anand Ranganathan, a scientist and outspoken political commentator.

Among the grotesque posts:

One user commented, “Thinking about J Sai Deepak and Anand Ranganathan today.”

Another user quipped, “Charlie Kirk was Mr. Sinha / That chutia Tau / ANI wali aunty / J Sai Deepak / iyerwal of USA.”

Another user wrote, “J Sai Deepak has died at the age of 31 after being shot, Donald Trump announces,” accompanied by a photo of Deepak.

Another user said, “When will J Sai Deepak, Anand Ranganathan, Vivek Agnihotri, Abhijit Iyer-Mitra, Smita Prakash, Arnab Goswami & Mayukh Ranjan of India receive the same fatal treatment as Charlie Kirk of the USA? Need of the hour.”

Another mocked, “Someone compared the killing of Charlie Kirk to J Sai Deepak being killed while talking about urban Naxals in an MP college.”

One post even questioned why flags were lowered in the U.S. after Kirk’s death, sarcastically adding, “That’s like Modi announcing all Indian flags to be lowered if J Sai Deepak died.”

These posts weren’t satire or slip-ups they revealed something far more disturbing, a fetishization of violence and a thinly veiled celebration of ideological murder.

Senior advocate J Sai Deepak, upon seeing the coordinated attack, responded by sharing screenshots of several comments and dryly noting, “Apparently this has been going on since yesterday :-)” a response that conveyed both awareness and a grim familiarity with the hate he routinely attracts.

Supporters swiftly rallied behind him, expressing outrage at the normalization of murder fantasies. Some users who had posted the offensive content silently deleted their posts once called out, hoping to evade accountability.

This isn’t an isolated incident of trolling. What we’re witnessing is part of a broader, toxic culture one where ideological opposition justifies dehumanization, and disagreement quickly devolves into digital bloodlust.

Figures like Deepak and Ranganathan, both of whom present reasoned, articulate challenges to the left-liberal consensus, have long been demonized. But these recent posts expose how far political hatred has metastasized in some circles.

At a time when Nepal is reeling from widespread unrest with youth-led uprisings shaking the very foundations of law and order it is deeply concerning to see segments of the Indian leftist and Congress-aligned ecosystem expressing not just sympathy, but veiled admiration for the chaos. Disturbingly, some are even pushing for a similar breakdown in India’s comparatively stable and peaceful democratic setup.

One glaring example is social media influencer Aishwarya Subramanyam, who operates under the handle @otherwarya. Known for her woke, left-leaning takes, she recently shared an Instagram story that raised eyebrows and tempers. The story highlighted a news piece titled “Nepal ministers cling to army chopper ropes to escape Gen-Z protesters,” with the caption, “India when.”

This offhand remark, perceived as a call for similar violent uprisings in India, was quickly called out on social media. Critics accused her of normalizing political violence and romanticizing the destabilization of democratic institutions all under the garb of progressive commentary.

But this isn’t her first brush with controversy.

During heightened India–Pakistan tensions following the pahalgam terror attack, Aishwarya Subramanyam posted a series of Instagram stories that was glorifying a Pakistani Air Force officer while mocking India’s military.

The posts were as follows:

A Collage of the Pakistani Air Force Officer accompanied with a Love Song:

The central image edited using CapCut with decorative red roses — featured a man in Pakistani Air Force uniform – who was none other than their Air Vice Marshal Aurangzeb. Overlaying the image was the caption and accompanied by old Hindi love song, “Hum Thumse Pyar Karte”

“Ye aesi nation se ap log larna chahte ho 😭😭😭 Sorry yaar 😭” (Translation: “You guys want to fight a nation like this 😭😭😭 Sorry, yaar😭) The romantic filter, emojis, and tone were interpreted by many as infatuation or admiration, prompting anger from those who viewed it as disrespectful toward India’s armed forces.

The second story read: “Also, women (and men) have been thirsting over the airforce officer named Aurangazeb since he’s been in the press briefings .” @otherwarya responded with repeated “I SEE” texts, implying agreement with the sentiment.

In her third post, Aishwarya Subramanyam alludes to a claim that a female Indian Air Force officer had been captured by Pakistan. She backs this by referencing a cartoon-style advertisement released by a Pakistani soft drink company, which, according to her, indirectly confirmed the incident.

The advertisement in question draws on the real-life 2019 Balakot airstrike, when Indian pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman was captured by Pakistan and famously served tea while in custody, a moment that became symbolic and politically charged. The new ad satirizes this event by replacing tea with the company’s energy drink and featuring a cartoon version of an Indian pilot calmly enjoying the beverage, implying a repeat scenario but with a female figure this time. The ad’s tagline, “No tea this time,” is seen as a deliberate jab, adding a layer of mockery to a deeply sensitive geopolitical issue.

Aishwarya’s caption reads: “Correct info hai. A local energy/color drink company even published a cartoonised ad yesterday of the captured female pilot having their drink instead of tea this time LOL,” followed by, “Wahhh show.” Her seemingly joking tone, combined with the mocking reference, sparked outrage among X users. Many perceived it as disrespectful to the Indian armed forces and inappropriate given the fraught history and current state of India-Pakistan relations.

This cavalier attitude toward such a sensitive geopolitical issue especially one involving the Indian armed forces sparked a wave of backlash. Netizens blasted her for her glib tone and for amplifying Pakistani propaganda at the expense of Indian military dignity.

The reaction to Aishwarya’s posts was swift and unforgiving. Social media users accused her of glorifying a hostile nation, mocking India’s military, and pushing a narrative that undermines national unity. Given the public’s respect for the armed forces, particularly in the wake of real sacrifices made during the India-Pakistan conflict, her posts were seen as not just provocative but anti-national in spirit. Air Vice Marshal Aurangzeb Ahmed, whom she indirectly praised, has reportedly made statements critical of India, adding further fuel to the outrage.

Aishwarya Subramanyam’s posts aren’t isolated incidents. They reflect a broader trend among certain sections of the online “woke” crowd who, in their performative activism and contrarianism, often end up romanticizing chaos abroad while belittling institutions at home.

At a time when responsible civic discourse is more crucial than ever, such narratives do little more than stir division and worse, embolden hostility.

The post was viral on X and quickly gained traction for calling out by netizens that the Aishwarya as “average leftist woke,” accusing her of “lusting over a Pakistani soldier while ridiculing our own armed forces.”

The Instagram Stories that Sparked Outrage

The post included three Instagram story screenshots allegedly shared by @otherwarya:

The Air Vice Marshal in question, Aurangzeb Ahmed, is allegedly known for anti-India statements, heightening the outrage.

In an interview with The Epoch Times, Larry Sanger, co-founder of Wikipedia, expressed concerns that the platform has abandoned its neutrality in recent years, veering toward what he describes asleftist propaganda.Sanger, who distanced himself from the project nearly two decades ago due to disagreements over its direction, shared his perspective during an interview with EpochTV’sAmerican Thought Leaders. He noted that Wikipedia, which marked its 20th anniversary earlier this year, has increasingly aligned its content with mainstream media narratives.

He said, “… introduced the neutrality policy before Wikipedia was even conceived of, and then Wikipedia inherited it from Newpedia. Wikipedia made a real effort at neutrality for I would say its first five years or so on that became well began along a slow slide into what I would call leftist propaganda. I mean that’s a harsh description to put on Wikipedia but at least a lot of the political articles read that way. But that’s because they follow the news media, at least they have done in the last 10 years or so, 10 or 15 years, they have gradually gotten rid of all blogs and then more recently, they’ve gotten rid of almost all conservative news sources as sources for their articles, and so as the news media has shifted, and as the establishment, frankly, has shifted more to the left or to the left, the content of Wikipedia has followed suit.”

He added, “It would have been hard for me to accept that this would happen, and it would be so striking even 10 years ago, I mean already there was this decline into the slide to a center-left point of view by 2010.”

The online encyclopedia relies on a vast network of around 125,000 active volunteer editors and more than 1,000 administrators, who have the authority to manage edits and block accounts. Sanger stated that in the last five years, individuals with conservative or contrarian viewpoints often find their Wikipedia articles misrepresenting their achievements, omitting significant aspects of their work, or distorting their motivations.

According to Sanger, such figures are frequently labeled asfar-rightorconspiracy theorists, even when those who know them personally would not characterize them in such terms. He criticized the platform for following the lead of traditional news outlets, saying it has increasingly excluded conservative news sources, such as Fox News’s political coverage, the New York Post, and the Daily Mail, from its list of acceptable references.

Sanger also shared his plans to develop a decentralized network aimed at creating a more inclusive platform for encyclopedic content. “We’re going to be putting all of the encyclopedic content and the world in a single network. That’s an extremely compelling vision,” he explained, emphasizing the project’s potential to empower users with more control over the content they engage with.

Since co-founding Wikipedia with Jimmy Wales in 2001, Sanger has repeatedly voiced concerns about its direction. Wikipedia representatives have yet to comment on his latest criticisms.

The post “Pakistanis Think Indian Army As Terrorists, Naxalism Is An Ideology”: Here Are Some Woke Gems Of Sai Pallavi appeared first on The Commune.

]]>

As cinephiles in Tamil Nadu gear up for Deepavali with the release of Amaran, a biopic on Ashoka Chakra awardee Major Mukund Varadarajan, many question the involvement of actor Sai Pallavi who is known for equating Indian Army actions to terrorism, describing Naxalism as a legitimate “ideology,” and comparing the Kashmiri Pandit genocide to stray cow-smuggling incidents. Many argue that her role in a film honouring a national hero is at odds with her past remarks, questioning the choice of casting her in a patriotic narrative.

Questionable ‘Amaran’ Team

The film Amaran, a biopic on Major Mukund Varadarajan, is up for release on Deepavali Day, 31 October 2024. Ever since the trailer was released, netizens and fans have been analysing it because questionable names are associated with the film.

Who are these questionable people, you ask? The film is being produced by Raj Kamal Films, owned by Kamal Haasan, a full-time actor, part-time politician, DMK ally, and Makkal Needhi Maiam founder. The Kollywood film is distributed by Red Giant Movies, owned by the DMK first family.

Additionally, the film features actor Sai Pallavi, who rose to fame with her pimple-faced girl-next-door look in Premam.

At such a juncture, some old videos of Sai Pallavi exposing her wokeness and ignorance started making the rounds on the internet.

Here are snippets from a Telugu interview she had given a few years ago. These are some of the statements she makes in the videos.

Naxalism Is An Ideology

In what seems to be a video interview around the time her film Virata Parvam was released (2022) when asked by the interviewer how she felt about the naxal uniform and guns and if she had any sympathy towards them, she says, “It is an ideology. You might have an ideology but for me, violence is a wrong form of communication. I don’t think now that we can solve this only if we are violent. But at that time, they did not know how to express their problem to them. When there is a law, we have to see what is right and what is wrong. At that time, no one knows where to go. So, they formed a group for themselves, and their mindset is that they will only say what is right and what is wrong. We are not in that situation; it happened long back.”

Does Sai Pallavi realise that naxalism is still active in several parts of the country (yes, it has been cracked down by the Modi government)? Does she realise how it affected families in states like Chhattisgarh? Does she realise how far back the Naxal-affected states and communities were when they were thriving?

It looks like she has no clue of what Naxalism is, what the Naxalites have been doing – absolutely no clue. Her statement that ‘they didn’t know how to express their problem’ about Naxals is plain ridiculous. Perhaps she should spend time with families of security personnel killed by these ‘ideologues’ before spouting such nonsense.

Indian Army Is A Terrorist For Pakistanis

In the same video, she is seen saying, “People in Pakistan think that our army is a terrorist. Because they feel that they are there and they (the army) are harming them. For us, they are terrorists. So the perspective changes. I don’t understand violence. It is very difficult for me to understand it. It is very difficult for us to say what is right and what is wrong. At that time, they believed that justice will come only if we do this. Only if we do this, we can do good to our children and family.”

Can Sai Pallavi provide proof that the Indian Army crossed the border and killed civilians? Are Indians occupying Pakistani land? Maybe Sai Pallavi needs several history lessons – Pakistan refused to accept the mortal remains of its soldiers during the Kargil war. It was India and its army that gave them a decent burial.

Not only does Sai Pallavi expose her shocking ignorance, but her comments about the Indian Army are borderline seditious. How dare she equate our brave soldiers with terrorists while enjoying the freedom and security they provide?

Equating Kashmiri Pandit Genocide To Cow Smuggling

In the same interview, she is seen saying, “A few days ago Kashmir Files film was released. In the film, they showed how the Pandits were killed at that time. Coming to more recent times, during COVID, if you are taking a religious conflict comparison, recently, someone was taking a cow in a vehicle. The ones driving the vehicle were Muslims. Some people lynched them and made them say, Jai Shri Ram. I cannot find the difference between what happened then and now. So if you ask me if leftists or rightists are good, they are not good if there is no justice on either side. When you are a good human being, whichever side you are on, everything becomes neutral.”

It cannot get worse than this – how can a sane person even compare genocide with beating up a cow smuggler? Trivializing a mass murder must be made a crime. Does she even know who Kashmiri Pandits are, does she know what they went through – should Sai Pallavi be made to relive the horrors of Raliv, Galiv, Ya Chaliv for her to understand and empathise with the Kashmiri Hindus?

Her comparison of the two situations shows her callous disregard for the systematic ethnic cleansing of an entire community. The sheer audacity to dismiss the systematic genocide of Kashmiri Hindus by comparing it to random criminal incidents shows either profound stupidity or malicious intent. Which is it, Pallavi?

Sai Pallavi’s Choice Of Films So Far

Shyam Singha Roy, released in 2021, was blatantly anti-Hindu and anti-Brahmin. The story is overtly Hinduphobic and vividly expressed through the lead character “Shyam”‘s experiences with Hindu traditions. In this film, Hindu traditions are not just inaccurately depicted; they are deliberately twisted to provoke disgust. The usual tropes of a “social justice hero” film – untouchability, the evil Brahmin, the exploitative Devadasi system – these are manipulated to show Hindus and Hinduism in the worst possible light.

Compounding this further e grim reality is the portrayal of a corrupt and evil Brahmin pandit, who views the Devadasis as sex slaves and engages in paedophilic acts. It seems like Sai Pallavi’s journey towards wokeness began here.

Her next film, Virata Parvam which was released in 2022 is based on Naxalism – the perfect next step. While the director claims he did not intend to romanticize naxalism, he also says, “Sticking to the facts would have made the film a docu-drama. He introduced a love story for cinematic appeal.” The story revolves around the heroine played by Sai Pallavi who falls in love with a naxalite (the lead) because of his poetry and in a bid to make him reciprocate her love, she dedicates herself to the “cause”! <Slow claps>

Who better than Sai Pallavi who thinks naxalism is an ideology similar to “peace” taken up by people who wanted to get their demands met to play the female lead role? Oh and, while she philosophizes about ‘violence being wrong’, she had no problem collecting a paycheck for romanticizing Naxal violence in Virata Parvam. Talk about selective morality!

First Shyam Singha Roy’s Hindu-bashing, then romanticizing Naxals in Virata Parvam, and followed by that interview – there’s clearly a pattern here. Sai Pallavi seems to have found her niche in peddling anti-Hindu, anti-national narratives while masquerading as a “character artist”.

The film Amaran seems to once again contain elements that are very visibly anti-Brahmin and anti-Indian, and the trailer does not appear to do justice to Major Mukund Varadarajan’s and his family’s supreme sacrifice. What’s more outrageous is that Sai Pallavi, who can’t tell the difference between terrorists and our armed forces, is a part of Major Mukund Varadarajan’s biopic. Is this some sick joke?

She is also said to be playing the role of Ma Sita in an upcoming film. Will Ma Sita be portrayed as a woke woman or will she distort the character and the film in some other way?

Wokeness appears to be infiltrating India’s premier tech institutions, as seen at the recent IIT-Madras convocation ceremony. A top mechanical engineering student used his award-acceptance speech to claim STEM fields, alleging they were being exploited to serve imperial powers like Israel. His anti-Semitic remarks have sparked concerns about the ideologies influencing young minds in such esteemed institutions.

IIT-M Convocation

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) celebrated its 61st convocation on 19 July 2024 at its campus in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. This year, 3,016 degrees were awarded, including Joint and Dual Degrees. A total of 444 PhDs were conferred, encompassing PhDs, joint degree PhDs with foreign institutions, and dual degree PhDs.

Degrees were awarded to 2,636 graduates, including 764 BTechs (27 with Honours), 277 Dual-Degree BTech and MTech, 481 MTech, 151 MSc, 42 MA, 50 Executive MBA, 84 MBA, 236 MS, and 107 Web-enabled MTech for executives. Among the PhD recipients, seven joint degrees were awarded to universities in countries like Australia, Singapore, France, and Germany.

The Chief Guest, Dr. Brian K. Kobilka, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry (2012), addressed the convocation. Dr. Pawan Goenka, Chairman of the Board of Governors, IIT Madras, presided over the event with Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, faculty, staff, and students.

In his speech, Dr Kobilka congratulated the graduates and emphasised that his success was due to hard work, persistence, luck, and support from family, friends, and colleagues. He shared five key factors contributing to his career: finding his passion, having mentors, recognising and leveraging his strengths and weaknesses, maintaining a work-life balance, and learning from failures.

Dr. Kobilka highlighted his 21-year journey to obtaining structures of G-protein-coupled receptors in active/inactive states, which ultimately led to his Nobel Prize. He reflected on the many lessons learned from his failed experiments during this period.

Dhananjay Balakrishnan

At this time, Dhananjay Balakrishnan, a student from the Mechanical Engineering department, was awarded the Governor’s Prize for the best overall proficiency in curricular and extracurricular activities in Dual Degree.

In his acceptance speech for the award at the IIT-M convocation ceremony, Balakrishnan, who pursued an interdisciplinary dual degree in mechanical engineering and data science, made a statement that would remind us of Ashoka University’s convocation. He said he would be doing great injustice to himself and what he believes in.

He said, This is a call for action. There is a mass genocide going on in Palestine. People are dying in vast numbers and there is no visible end in sight. Why should we be bothered by this you ask? Because STEM as a field in itself has historically been used to advance the ulterior motives of the imperial powers such as Israel. As engineering students, we work very hard to get top-level jobs at tech giants which offer very lucrative pays and great benefits. However, these tech giants control various aspects of our lives today as you know better than anyone. Many of these prestigious companies are also directly and indirectly implicated in the war against Palestine by providing the state of Israel with technology, technology that is used to kill.”

He further said,There are no easy solutions and I don’t have all the answers but I do know this. As engineers graduating into the real world, it is our job to be aware of the consequences of the work we do and also to interrogate our own position in these complex systems of power imbalance. I hope that we can incorporate this awareness more into our daily lives attempting to understand what we can do to liberate the oppressed on lines of caste, class, creed, and gender. I believe that is the first step to curb the never-ending cycle of suffering.”

It was assumed that IITs are not as woke as other universities like JNU, Ashoka, or Jamia Milia Islamia. However, this instance indicates that wokeness has seeped into IITs, the very roots , especially IIT Madras, in the STEM field.

A video of a convocation ceremony at Ashoka University has been circulating on social media. It has come to light that on 24 May 2024, students of Ashoka University displayed pro-Palestine placards during their convocation ceremony. The video shows graduates holding signs that readFree PalestineandStop Genocide.” Some were also seen wearing the Palestinian “keffiyeh” (scarf) and some turned up in Palestinian flag colours – black, green, red.

This demonstration aligns with the ongoing demands of the Ashoka University Student Government (AUSG) to sever ties with Israel-based Tel Aviv University. Since May, the AUSG has petitioned the university administration, urging them to end their research partnership with Tel Aviv University, which includes lectures by Israeli faculty members in India. However, the university rejected this petition, emphasizing that it does not take political stances.

This is not the first time Ashoka University has been in the spotlight for controversial student actions. Here are some notable past instances:

Hinduphobic Slogans Raised On Campus

In March 2024, Ashoka University students raised Hinduphobic slogans such asBrahmin-Baniyawaad Murdabadwithin the university premises. Videos of the students chanting these slogans went viral on social media. The students also voiced support for caste-based reservations and a caste census at the university. They chanted additional slogans likeJai Bheem-Jai MeemandJai Savitri-Jai Fatima, targeting specific communities.

On Israel-Gaza Conflict

In February 2024, the AUSG issued a statement condemning Israel’s military actions in Gaza. The statement described the terror attack by Hamas on October 7th, 2023, which resulted in over 1,300 deaths and numerous atrocities, asevents taking place on 7 October 2023.This phrasing drew criticism for downplaying the severity of the attacks and omitting the violence committed by Hamas.

Controversial Research By Professor Sabyasachi Das

In August 2023, Professor Sabyasachi Das faced backlash for a research paper claiming that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) engaged in election manipulation. The paper, widely criticized for its methodological flaws, went viral on social media after being amplified by Congress leader Shashi Tharoor. Following the controversy, Professor Das resigned from his position. The AUSG defended the research, describing it ascutting-edge.”

False Claims By Professor Neelanjan Sircar

In November 2021, Professor Neelanjan Sircar falsely claimed that a portrait of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at Rashtrapati Bhavan was actually of Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee. In a now-deleted tweet, Sircar used this claim to mock Hindu beliefs and criticized the BJP. His tweet read, “Totally amazing! This isn’t Netaji Subash Chandra Bose, it’s a picture of famous Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee playing Netaji in a movie. And this after yelling ‘Jai Shri Ram’ at a Netaji event. The bankruptcy of political appropriation of independence-era leaders.”

The recent display of pro-Palestine placards, combined with these past instances of Hinduphobic slogans, controversial research, and biased commentary on international conflicts, indicates a growing trend of activism and political expression among Ashoka University students.

Continued from Part 1

The Islamist-Left-Liberal-Woke ideological collaboration deep at work in the developed, democratic, liberal, secular nations of the West and secular nations of the East like India, operates under the disguise of perceived victimhood, religious rights, human rights, equality, labour rights, feminism Etc.

Islamists joining the bandwagon of Left-Liberal causes, ensure the Muslim world’s clever strategy of equating Islam to the victimhood narrative and unfairly takes away the world’s attention from the real victims of deprivation, discrimination, suffering, and neglect.

This dangerous network has taken away the credibility of local, grass-roots organisations that sincerely try to address genuine issues without an ulterior motive or a religious/political agenda. Beware!

For a few years now, independent thinkers and think tanks in the U.S. and U.K. have been warning of the effects of the Islamist-Left-Woke-Liberal collaboration on the psyche of the average American citizen and public institutions run under government patronage. What they warned about most in recent times, is a heavy infusion of a fabricated, falsely implicated Islamic victimhood narrative cleverly played into the other “humanitarian” issues frequently raised by the ultra-Left – gender equality, racial issues, labour rights, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, environmental issues, etc.

In the distant past, the Leftist lobby had championed such common issues that appealed to most Western and Eastern people living in democracies. What is worrisome now, is the influence of the disguised, subtle but firm, and strong undertones of an Islamist agenda in the Left’s causes of interest. For example, in the U.S., U.K., Canada. Islamic organisations claiming injustice and victimhood disguise themselves as alternative human-rights organisations and join the same causes as the Left-Liberal-Feminist-Woke lobby.

Over a period of time, strong Muslim voices slowly take over the Left-Woke leadership roles in the Leftist organisations, and before the general public realises, the reputable organisations they had trusted in the past, are infiltrated by several Muslims in important positions peddling a Muslim victimhood/Muslim rights agenda along with the common themes of generic human rights, racial justice, equality, environmental rights, employment rights, etc.

In the process of growing membership and positions of leadership within the world’s Leftist organisations, the Muslims are helped by generous financial contributions by Muslim organisations in the host country funded by Islamic nations like Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan.

So, how does this ultimately come back to haunt a nation like India? Islamists in foreign nations hiding in the rank and file of Leftist, socialist, secularists “democratic” organisations, begin to unnecessarily bring focus on issues like Kashmir, the CAA, and Minority rights in India when in reality, such issues have nothing to do with the common man’s problems in the U.S., U.K., or Canada!!

Equating the racial rights of the Black people in America’s shameful history of slavery with India’s caste, class, and religious rights in modern-day India, is a clever, convoluted argument of trying to equate racial rights in the ex-Slave colonies like the U.S. to religious and class rights in modern-day, post-independent India. It is NOT an equal comparison yet the Left-Liberal-Woke-Islamist network has successfully spun a bizarre story linking the two, non-similar, non-convergent stories set in two very different parts of the globe.

The current mental makeup and ideology of the Democratic Party in the U.S. is similar to that of India’s Congress Party. India has always been offered better deals in an open transactional environment when the Republican Party has been in power. Democratic leaders like Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden pay mere lip service to the ideals of democracy, they are good with their sweet-talking, friendly smiles, diplomatic gestures, and speeches but continue with their soft diplomacy, financial and military support to fascist and/or military ruled non-democratic nations and terror-sponsoring nations like Pakistan. It is the U.S.’s Republican leaders like Ronald Reagan, George Bush, and Donald Trump that talk openly and frankly, drive hard bargains and strike tough yet fair deals and enable big business and military partnerships for India!

Similarly, in the U.K., the Labour Party’s agenda is ultra Leftist, pro-Islamist, and anti-India. The conservative Tory party is tougher on the Islamist narrative and while the Tories may not outrightly support India’s needs, they’re better at getting mutually beneficial business deals signed and handling sensitive matters with more care.

Left-leaning parties in most parts of the world have been taken over by a deadly, rabid mix of human rights with Islamic rights by supporting the false Muslim victimhood narrative which is ridiculous and an open lie, considering the aggression of Islam towards all other religions and the undeniable continuance of major human-rights, religious rights, women’s rights, children’s rights and labour rights abuse in Islamic countries. It is logical (in most cases, proven) to assume that Left-leaning governments and Leftist organisations enjoy ample financial support from Islamist groups and States and hence take a soft approach to the dangers of Islamic expansionist views. Such nations and organisations are likely to support an anti-India agenda.

Muslim appeasement (to a lesser degree, Christian appeasement) and extension of special privileges to one community against the principles of equal treatment for all, enshrined in the Constitution of democratic, practicing secular countries like the U.S, India, U.K, Canada, and others, has become a major worry for the Centre and Right-Of-Centre.

The social, political, and economic ‘Centre’ and ‘Right of Centre’ segment of the world’s population is slowly waking up to the reality of a new, unholy, dangerous nexus among the ultra-Left, Liberal, Woke, and the ultra Islamist groups, in furthering a sinister agenda in most developed nations and a few developing countries like India.

Their ideological and political targets are the liberal, secular, and humanitarian-based developed nations in the West and those nations in the developing East, that are striving to emulate the West in their democratic, secular, liberal, human (rather than religion-centric) ideals. The Left-Liberal-Woke-Islamist network does not dare to operate in totalitarian, communist nations like Russia and China and Islamic nations and devoutly Christian nations. Their target is liberal, humanist, progressive “secular” nations.

They are too cowardly to try preaching supposedly “humanitarian” values to religious-extremist, non-secular nations or Islamic countries. This motley group targets those nations and citizens that are liberal enough to naively allow them to access their debate rooms, government offices, courtrooms, educational institutions, and their people’s minds.

In India, there has always been a tacit understanding (aiming to influence the public) among the “communist” Left, the Liberal Left, the urban and rural Naxalite Left, the Pseudo-secular Left, the peculiar Hindu-apologist Left, and the Islamists. In countries like the U.S and the U.K, the well-intentioned albeit unsuspecting public is bombarded with propaganda that tries to bring a loosely put-together concoction of class, gender, race, and religion (mostly Islam) together in the name of an “injustice” to all who fall in any of the four above-mentioned “victim” groups, which make it a sizeable, cohesive group to deal with.

The Right and Centre of Right are justified in worrying about this disturbing trend. Islamists market and promote themselves as victims of injustice in the world although they are the aggressors and perpetrators of inequality and injustice in most parts of the world!! By grabbing and effectively using the false “victimhood” narrative for itself, Islam has ensured that the real victims (non-Muslims, women, children, local cultures, indigenous tribes, etc.) are denied the real victimhood label and denied the assurance of necessary protection from Islam’s aggressive political and expansionist ambitions.

Any which way you look at it, both in the East and the West, the religion that has falsely grabbed and cornered the “victimhood” denominator and stands to gain the most from tying itself to all the “other” real vulnerable/ potential victimhood groups, carefully teaming up with them and cleverly aligning with them on strategic issues (immigration, special rights, free services, additional government aid, propagation and promotion of a particular religion etc.) …. is Islam!

Typically, liberal, democratic, and secular societies are far more tolerant of diverse faiths, life choices, opinions, and new ideas. Naturally, such nations become the target of the extremist, ultra Left-Woke-Islamist movements. They spin an elaborate story of victimhood and oppression so cleverly that by the time they are done weaving together a tapestry of several narratives and interwoven plots, most liberal, broad-minded people are tricked into believing this sinister group’s version of right and wrong without judging the veracity of their claims, fact-checking or listening to any alternative views.

The targets and victims of the Islamist-Left-Liberal-Woke propaganda, often become guilt-tripped for not belonging to either of the four sub-groups of this unholy nexus. The average, educated, broad-minded, humanist citizen in the targeted democratic, secular, liberal nations, stops questioning the highly exaggerated victimhood narratives or downright lies that have been falsely peddled to them. Therein lies the danger of a large, liberal, gullible “educated” population, blindsided by a clever enemy preying on their naivety, their goodwill, their humanity, their willingness to listen and accept different opinions.

After being brain-washed into thinking that all religions and political/ social views are “equal”, the broad-minded, educated, well-meaning populations of many democratic nations, lose their ability to fact-check, their ability to question, their ability to think independently, ultimately disabling them from seeing through the thick fog of misinformation, exaggeration and lies. By the end of a slow but steady brain-washing process highlighted frequently with tales of exaggerated suffering, victimhood, hardship, torture, etc….the average educated, liberal mind develops a sense of misplaced guilt and becomes apologetic for who he/she is, for absolutely no fault of theirs. The average educated, liberal, warm, and welcoming mind is made to feel guilty about having had a normal life and the opportunity to experience success with their own hard work!

The Islamist-Left-Liberal-Woke ideological collaboration/network and its operations, slow-poisoning young minds, has far-reaching consequences for Western secular democracies as well as the liberal, democratic, secular countries in the East – countries like India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines. The most impacted are the democratic, non-dictatorship, non-totalitarian, non-Islamic States.

The Left-Woke-Islamist networks that operate in countries like the U.S. and U.K. influence public opinion in their respective countries, impact independent thinking in educational institutions and government think tanks and ultimately impact
policy-making and their government’s official stand on certain global matters. Hence, the West’s stand (official or not) and unsolicited interference on matters like Kashmir and India’s other security problems, which are solely India’s internal issues to be handled at its own discretion, within its rights as an independent, sovereign nation.
