In a provocative and inflammatory social media post, Sai Lakshmikanth Bharathi, son of senior DMK leader and Organizing Secretary RS Bharathi, sparked outrage by suggesting that defeating the BJP through electoral means was difficult due to its current popularity, and that the only alternative was to mobilize the public in a “civil movement” — a move he warned would lead to a “bloodbath.”

The remark stirred controversy, as it sharply contradicted the DMK’s frequent claims of upholding constitutional and democratic processes. Critics argued that the statement exposed a willingness to resort to dangerous and undemocratic tactics when electoral victory seemed uncertain.

Posting from his official X account, Sai Lakshmikanth Bharathi wrote,
“Defeat of BJP electorally is removing a crucial card from the house of cards. What transpires after BJP’s fall will be an avalanche. The stakes are high. The stakeholders wont let it happen. Only way is to go to the people and make it a civil movement. There will be bloodbath.”

It remains unclear whether he was referring to the Bihar elections expected in November 2025 or the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly polls. However, the overt hint at violent consequences drew widespread condemnation across social media platforms.

In yet another tirade by DMK members, senior leader RS Bharathi has once again made disparaging remarks about TN BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan.

Addressing a public gathering in Puducherry, RS Bharathi said, “You know the one who speaks a lot, she says if you drink cow urine, cancer will be cured. She is a qualified doctor and the intellectual genius says that if you drink cow urine, cancer can be cured. How did you qualify for MBBS? Did you get the seat by scoring marks? My dearest leader Kalaignar helped you get a seat in the medical college in a quota because your father Kumari Ananthan because he was a Tamil scholar. In the quota given to you by Kalaignar, because he was a Tamil scholar, you were able to study to be a doctor, and now you are getting signatures for 3 language policy, what should I beat you up with? Do the people of Tamil Nadu have no feelings or sense? A few of us are still alive. During the 1965 anti-Hindi protests I was studying in a Christian college. We passed SSLC in 1964. There are people like Durai Murugan and Gopalsamy who participated in the struggle in 1964, and only four or five people like us are alive. Those who saw all this, to what extent, how much atrocities have happened in this country, how big a struggle has it been. Today, you say we will implement the three-language policy here, and I don’t care who collects these signatures. Annamalai can also collect it. He didn’t study properly, so I don’t care. But if Tamilisai who studied under the Tamil quota is collecting these signatures, we have to narrate history.”

He further added, “Young speakers like them have come here. From now on, it is them who has to pass this on to the younger generation. Many people don’t know the dangers. Even here, those who spoke before, it is not only about Hindi, but also the NEP – the so-called National Educational Policy has some very cruel conditions. It is not only about hereditary/ancestral education. They will conduct exams in 3rd standard itself, if you fail, you have to leave the school. They will conduct exams in 5th grade, if you fail you have to graze cows. This law has been brought to destroy our education and our knowledge. This was also there during the Congress period, before 1967. When we were studying, we wrote an exam called ESLC, in the eighth standard. The younger generation today does not know all this. After studying everything and getting a degree, they immediately think that they have studied and achieved because of their family and gotra pride. They think that we have studied and come because of pride. We need to understand who is responsible for this education. If we say that DMK does not exist, if we say that there is no such being as Kalaignar, then no one would have studied in Tamil Nadu. They will conduct an exam in the eighth standard. If they fail, they will not be able to go to the ninth standard. They have to leave it and come back. They have to work in the grocery store or work at a mechanic shop and change tyres.”

This is not the first time that RS Bharathi has made such derogatory statements against anyone. Here is a list of what he said in the past.

Against Judges

Speaking at a public meeting recently, he has openly derogated Brahmins. He recollected the incidents around former CM Karunanidhi’s death and how his body was buried at Marina Beach alongside other former Chief Ministers after a legal battle. While doing so, he claimed that the judge hearing the case was not a Brahmin and implied that had it been one, Karunanidhi would not have been buried where he is now.

He said, “Karunanidhi told us to bury him near Annadurai. When he (Karunanidhi) passed away, Thalapathy Stalin said that he should pursue the case in court himself. Continuing the case, Thalapathy accepted Kalaignar’s order and gave him a six-foot plot of land in Chennai through the court. Fortunately, had that judge had been a Brahmin (shows janeu/sacred thread with hand gestures), we would not have gotten it. Fortunately, he is one of us. I don’t delve deeper into this. Then the judge said at 11 pm, if you can somehow go and get this writ petition numbered in the High Court and send a notice to the government, I will hear this case in court at night itself.”

RS Bharathi has made derogatory statements about judges earlier.

He was arrested in May 2021 by the Central Crime Branch of the Chennai city police in May 2020 for allegedly making inflammatory remarks at a party meeting in February. In his speech, Bharati reportedly said that it was only because of the Dravidian movement’s alms (pichchai) that Dalits were able to become judges in Tamil Nadu. Referring to a judge, he reportedly said that many Dalits were inducted into the judiciary because of the indulgence of the DMK leadership during former chief minister M Karunanidhi’s tenure.

Speaking at an event in Anbagam (the DMK youth wing headquarters), in February 2020, he said “If Tamil Nadu remains the best state, it is because of the Dravidian movement. No Harijan has become a judge of the High Court in Madhya Pradesh. After Karunanidhi became Chief Minister A Varadarajan was appointed as HC judge. Seven or eight others from the Adi Dravidar community went on to become judges after that. It is the alms (picchai) given by the Dravidian Movement”. He later issued an apology for his remarks.

Insulting Political Leaders

EPS

During an event in Ambattur, Chennai in 2021, DMK leader RS Bharathi made derogatory remarks about the then Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Edappadi Palaniswami. He said, “He has forgotten with whose help, this dog, this man sat on the CM’s chair. Those who kick the ladder that they used for climbing up have never met a good end. I would say even MGR is also like that. MGR was nurtured and made into a leader by this movement. But you know what happened when he betrayed. He passed away without being able to speak.”.

Making Derogatory Remarks On Jayalalithaa

He also made disrespectful comments about J. Jayalalithaa, implying that he was responsible for sending her to jail in the TANSI case, and even suggested speaking to her from her memorial. He said, “Go wake her up from the samadhi [memorial] and ask”. He also added, “Recently, Jayalalithaa’s memorial hall was opened on January 27. They gave ₹40,000 per bus from all over Tamil Nadu. They gave ₹2000 to those who boarded the bus. They picked them up and dropped them off at Marina Beach. Edappadi and OPS thought that the whole crowd would come to the Jayalalithaa memorial. But the crowd thought, instead of visiting that ‘moodhevi’ (a derogatory slang in Tamil), they visited Kalaignar’s [Karunanidhi’s] memorial”.

Governor Also Like Bihari Panipuri Sellers

In January 2023, at a public meeting, he compared the Governor to a migrant worker from Bihar and said that he would not have left without being beaten had Jayalalitha been alive. “I had earlier stated that those who sell Soan papdi and Panipuri don`t know the pride of Tamil Nadu. I said this in a meeting. I came to know that many have come from Bihar and I think the Governor (RN Ravi) has similarly come by train,”.

Insults Kamarajar

In October 2022, RS Bharati at an event said, “Supreme Leader Kamaraj said he would cut off the thumb of DMK members. But it was us who built his grave. No Congressmen did that. To date, everyone is worshiping in the grave we built for Kamaraj.” “I’m sorry. I’m just telling history. I don’t mean to hurt anyone,” he said.

Mocks MGR

In March 2024, at a DMK event in Salavakkam, RS Bharati mocked MGR’s final speech and linking it to his death. RS Bharathi said, The last speech was when he said that he would ban the DMK. His arms and legs were paralysed, he was admitted to Apollo, and remained speechless and gone. I want Modi to understand this and that is why I am reminding him of it.

“Today Even A Dog Gets A BA Degree”

In July 2024, he stated that even a dog could obtain a BA degree due to the Dravidian movement. Speaking at a DMK Students Wing protest against NEET, he criticized the exam’s irregularities and credited the movement for expanding education access while accusing the Modi government of evasion.

RS Bharathi said, “I am a lawyer B.L educated. Ezhilarasan BE, BL. All these did not come from clan or gotra. If it was not for the alms of the Dravidian movement and communal GO, so many doctors and so many people with B.E degrees would not have come. When I studied BA, only one person in the town had studied BA. Then they will write the title on the name board outside the house. Now everyone in the town is studying for a degree, even a dog is getting a BA degree. Dravidian movement is responsible for this development.”

North Indians Are Fools

At a meeting (in an undated video), Bharathi is seen saying, “The reason why Tamil Nadu is the best state in India is because of the DMK. The people in the other states are fools, they have no brains, these north Indians, I am saying this openly.”

Says Bihar & UP People Eat Chapati Kurma At Amma Canteen

During a party meeting in Chennai in September 2024, RS Bharathi questioned the relevance of Amma Unavagam, the late Jayalalithaa’s pet project. He asked about the need for a low-cost meal scheme after her death and accused AIADMK leaders of exploiting it.

He also claimed that only the north Indian workers benefited from Amma Unavagam on Tamil Nadu taxpayers’ money.

During his speech, Bharathi criticized AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS), dismissing claims that the DMK government had closed Amma Unavagam. He said, “Amma (Jayalalithaa) herself has left (died), then what is the need for Amma Unavagam? Edappadi and his gang ate idli and dosa for one and a half crore rupees while Amma (Jayalalithaa) was in the hospital. Now they are acting like the DMK has shut down Amma Unavagam, where just about 150 people eat daily,” Bharathi remarked.

Bharathi also attacked the Jayalalithaa government’s management of Amma Unavagam, alleging that “wasted food” was served there. He said, “The Jayalalithaa government served leftover food in Amma Unavagam. The chapati and kuruma served at night in Amma Unavagam are consumed by people from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. We spend our tax money and feed him,” said RS Bharathi.

Called Media As ‘Redlight’ Media

In February 2020, in a video widely shared on social media, the DMK leader is heard asking why the media had made a matter of debate about his party employing political strategist Prashant Kishor. In a four-minute video clip that went viral, Bharathi can be heard saying: “I am silent because I am in this party post of organising secretary. These journalists don’t have a job. They only blame us. (Arvind) Kejriwal used Prashant Kishor, Narendra Modi used him and many others used him. But they discuss only when the DMK is using him and now it has become a debate. I say it openly that these TV journalists are real scoundrels. They run debates like red-light area in Mumbai. They do anything for money. ‘Thalapathy’ (MK Stalin) goes to temples, but that doesn’t become a debate, people in his house go to a temple, and they discuss it. Is it very important for the country?”

DMK Organizing Secretary RS Bharathi has made headlines once again – this time for responding harshly to actor-turned-politician Vijay for his criticism of the DMK’s alleged hypocrisy. Vijay, who leads the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), had called out the DMK for claiming to support farmers when they were in the opposition but began acting against the same farmers once they came to power. In his response, Bharathi dismissed Vijay, questioning his identity and mocking him as a “small boy.”

TVK chief Vijay recently visited the villagers protesting against the Parandur airport project and took the opportunity to criticize the DMK government. He stated that people would no longer passively watch the government’s actions and mocked the DMK, saying, “It is natural for you to act and deceive the people.” Vijay also called for a reassessment of the airport’s proposed location and questioned the DMK’s inconsistency, asking, “Why was it one stance when you were in the opposition, and a different one when you’re in power?”

In response, DMK senior leader R.S. Bharathi, speaking at a party event in Tirunelveli, fired back, stating, “Today, many people who don’t know anything start speaking of something or the other. They said something about someone. Those who’ve only just sprouted are now challenging us. We are the ones who introduced his father. Let me make this clear—no one who has opposed the DMK has ever succeeded or endured. There’s a long history of this, but let’s not delve into it. To speak, one needs qualification. Yesterday, this little boy was saying that, ‘We were good in acting’. But if asked, can you answer who you are? Who is your dad? Who is your mother? Don’t forget, it was we who introduced you to the nation—not just through acting, but through writing screenplays. And who is your father? He was the director behind the writings of our leaders.”

Former Rajya Sabha MP and DMK leader RS Bharathi has run his mouth once again, making insensitive comments on the deaths in the aftermath of the IAF air show in Chennai on 6 October 2024.

Speaking to the press, the DMK leader said, “It is regrettable, but the arrangements had been done by the government, as stated by Ma Subramaniam. They also intimated the public to bring umbrellas and water bottles. Despite this, due to some people’s carelessness, things have happened. There is no report out yet. Depending on that, the government will take action. 15 lakh people assembled, it was sunny, and they died due to stroke. Those who were already sick should not have gone there.

When asked about the lack of drinking water facilities during the air show, Bharathi said, “That is false. They have done their best. They also gave specific instructions beforehand. The central government organized this programme. TN government did what it was asked of. Ma Subramaniam has also confirmed that.”

When asked about the allegations placed by ADMK leader and leader of the opposition, Edappadi Palaniswami, about the lack of adequate facilities during the air show, Bharathi shot back saying, “Even in Kumbakonam, 100 people died when 2 people went to take a bath. Did something like that happen? It was self-inflicted, self-caused. It is very hot now. During the 2015 election campaign when Jayalalithaa participated, 6 people died even during her own party meeting. We should not forget that. We should not do politics over the dead. ADMK has no locus standi to speak on this. Similarly, because that lady slept, in 2015, Chennai drowned because of the floods. We still do not know the cause of death.”

Bharathi joins other DMK members and leaders who tried to downplay the incident and pin the blame on the IAF for the chaos and mishap.

Ma Subramaniam

Health Minister Ma Subramaniam released a press note stating, Full administrative cooperation of the Government of Tamil Nadu was extended to successfully conduct the Indian Air Force Air Adventure Program at Chennai. In order to properly plan and conduct the event, a coordination meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary with Indian Air Force officers and Tamil Nadu government department officials once and then several times at the departmental level. In these consultative meetings, arrangements were made with all the demands of the Air Force officers kept in mind. Two health teams, with an adequate number of doctors and nurses, have been deployed on behalf of the state government at the venue. Apart from this, medical teams were formed on behalf of the Indian Army. Also, 40 ambulances were also stationed there for emergency medical assistance. Adequate paramedical teams were also constituted100 beds and 65 doctors were kept ready in Government Medical College Hospitals including Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. Necessary arrangements have been made for an adequate number of temporary latrines and drinking water supply at Marina Beach by the Chennai Metropolitan Corporation and the Chennai Water and Sewerage Board. 7500 security guards have been deployed for security given the possibility of a large number of people coming. For the Indian Air Force program held today in Chennai,

Tamil Nadu provided all the facilities and arrangements beyond what they requested. would like to inform you that it has been done by the government.”

He also blamed the IAF for the reason why the event was conducted during the peak afternoon.

Syed Hafeez

Another DMK spokesperson Syed Hafeez kept justifying the deaths were not due to a stampede. Speaking to Times Now, he said, The event was well organized. The government and the Corporation of Chennai with coordination from 4 other departments had done their best to avoid such a situation. See you have to understand, tehre was no stampede. If the state government had not organised this well, in such a manner. To completely blame the state government of mismanagement is not acceptable. See other news channels, people are praising the state government.”

Saravanan Annadurai

DMK member and advocate Saravanan Annadurai blamed the public for not taking adequate water bottles, caps, etc. He even questioned the health issues those who died may have had. It seemed to indicate that he was saying blaming the State government for poor arrangements is being done for political reasons.

He wrote, “Aviation adventure and politics of jealousy! Yesterday the Indian Air Force, the adventure shows at the Marina were not properly coordinated, the trains were not running, 5 people died, and the state government should be held responsible. I also went to see the adventure, we walked 3 km, saw, walked again and reached home.

Important questions.

1. When 10 lakh people will gather, can all the vehicles be allowed to the place of adventure?

2. Can get down early and walk the last 2 or 3 km on your own.

3. Yesterday the sun was 36 degrees, walking in that sun and standing in the top sun can see this adventure. It has to go by itself with minimum progress. Hat, water, umbrella.

4. Adequate number of ambulances were available and first aid treatments were available for those who fainted in the sun.

5. Everyone has a desire to see it in person. They must have come to the event feeling that this hot environment would allow their bodies to cooperate. At least for about 3 hours, you have to walk to stand in the sun.

6. The death of 5 people is very regrettable, taking into consideration their health condition.

7. Southern Railway should explain why they are not running enough trains.

8. Is there a structure that can accommodate more than 10 lakh people in a short period of time?

9. Our guards did an excellent job, from first aid treatment to traffic regulation.

10. Majority of the people of Chennai who came to the program, enjoyed the program and left with satisfaction. They had come to the program knowing what kind of facilities would be available in such programs and how much would the facility be. It was conducted by the Union Government itself, what is their role? Those who try to portray this as some kind of administrative failure have no intention other than political jealousy.”

He went on to state that there was no stampede, so everything was fine. He wrote, Only an autopsy will tell us how 5 people were dead? Did they have any pre existing illness, which got exacerbated while standing in the hot sun for 3 to 4 hrs. There was no stampede.”

Saravanan next went on to blame the Defence ministry because it was them who organised it in the first place! He wrote, “Show organised by Defence Ministry

Kanimozhi

As if paying lip service, DMK MP Kanimozhi indirectly blamed the IAF for wanting to gather a large number of people. She wrote, The news of the death of 5 people is very sad and painful when the public who witnessed the military flight adventure program held at the Marina beach in Chennai suffered from the crowd and the temperature was high. Unmanageable gatherings should also be avoided.”

Salem Dharanidharan

DMK spokie Salem Dharanidharan also blamed the IAF, stating they wanted to create a record and that the TN government did not organise the event. He said, It is unfortunate that lives were lost and it should not happen. There have been many events, full-fledged events conducted in the state where more number of people have participated. There have been fantastic arrangements. Even our party conducted the Youth Wing conference which broke the record was fantastically arranged. The Air Force organizes this and it is not the Tamil Nadu government that wanted to create a record. People, out of their own willingness wanted to come and we made proper arrangements but I am not certain how these mishaps happened.”

TKS Elangovan

The most brazen one among them was DMK leader TKS Elangovan. Speaking to ANI, he said, People were gathered in large numbers at the Marina Beach…The Indian Air Force conducts the event The crowd was unexpectedly huge which Marina could not hold Such kinds of incidents have also happened in many temple festivals...Opposition leaders will always accuse us of anything. They will not manage anything. More than 100 people were taken to the hospital. The state government has made all the arrangements...”

Senior DMK leader and former Rajya Sabha MP RS Bharathi has once again sparked controversy with his recent remarks, claiming that in today’s scenario, even a dog can obtain a BA degree, attributing this phenomenon to the alms of the Dravidian movement. His comments came during a protest organized by the DMK’s Students Wing at Valluvar Kottam in Tamil Nadu on 7 July 2024, opposing the NEET examination.

The demonstration, titled ‘No More NEET‘, was led by the Students Wing Secretary and Kancheepuram MLA CVMP Ezhilarasan, where RS Bharathi addressed the gathering. This protest follows the Tamil Nadu Assembly’s resolution advocating for NEET exemption, citing recent irregularities and advocating for class 12 marks as the basis for medical admissions.

During his speech, RS Bharathi underscored that even during Jayalalithaa’s tenure, Tamil Nadu resisted NEET, attributing its introduction to subsequent governments. He criticized the NEET exam, alleging irregularities and describing it as a tool designed to undermine Tamil Nadu. Bharathi credited the Dravidian movement for the widespread access to education today, contrasting the present with his own youth when attaining a BA was rare.

He further accused the Modi government of avoiding discussions on NEET in Parliament due to alleged scandals, asserting this as a triumph for the DMK. Bharathi emphasized that the Dravidian movement’s policies have enabled numerous individuals, including himself and Ezhilarasan, to pursue higher education without barriers of caste or clan.

RS Bharathi’s recent statement mocking the abundance of graduates in Tamil Nadu, likening it to a feudal mindset has drawn severe criticism on social media.

Earlier, RS Bharathi maintained a similar stance that Dalits would not have been able to ascend to judicial positions in Tamil Nadu. This stance echoes his previous statements. In May 2020, Bharathi was apprehended by the Central Crime Branch of the Chennai city police following accusations of making provocative remarks during a party gathering held in February of that year. Referring to a judge, he reportedly said that many Dalits were inducted into the judiciary because of the indulgence of the DMK leadership during former chief minister M Karunanidhi’s tenure. Speaking at an event in Anbagam (the DMK youth wing headquarters), in February 2020, he said If Tamil Nadu remains the best state, it is because of the Dravidian movement.

In another instance, RS Bharathi made racist and derogatory comments about the people of Nagaland. Speaking at an event commemorating the 100th anniversary celebrations of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK patriarch Karunanidhi, Bharathi said, “What is the governor doing? He just wants to create problems for the ruling government. We have seen so many governors, but what this governor does is create a fuss and drag us into a fight. He refuses to sign the bills we send. I addressed a gathering about what happened to him in Nagaland; they chased him away. Don’t mistake me; I am just quoting an example. The people of Nagaland eat dog meat. If someone who eats dog meat themselves has so much self-respect that they chased away this governor, then imagine how much self-respect Tamils, who consume food with salt, would have. The day he was chased away, the people of Nagaland celebrated it like Deepavali.”

On another instance at a meeting (in an undated video), Bharathi ridiculing north Indian labourers said, “The reason why Tamil Nadu is the best state in India is because of the DMK. The people in the other states are fools, they have no brains, these north Indians, I am saying this openly.”

Just a few days ago, Prime Minister Modi was in the state to witness the initiation of core loading of India’s Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor at Kalpakkam in Tamil Nadu. It was noteworthy that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin refrained from participating in the inauguration ceremony of the Kalpakkam project.

The DMK organizational secretary, R.S. Bharathi, clarified the reason for it. He said that the decision to not attend was rooted in opposition to the project, which is perceived as being against the will of the Tamil people and orchestrated by the Union Government. Bharti emphasized concerns about the potential environmental impact and questioned the rationale behind locating the nuclear project in Tamil Nadu instead of Gujarat or Uttar Pradesh.

“The 500 Mega Watt Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor in Kalpakkam was not commissioned during the DMK regime. The party consistently opposes projects like Sterlite which affect people. Chief Minister MK Stalin did not take part in PM Narendra Modi’s event on Monday because the plant poses a risk to the people,” stated Bharti during a press briefing.

Bharti criticized Prime Minister Modi’s frequent visits to Tamil Nadu, likening them to candidates seeking support before a municipal election. He accused Modi of failing to address the demands of the people.

He said, “I am from that district. If you check, there are several cancer cases in the area.” He also claimed that foreigners who came to visit Mahabalipuram did not consume seafood because of fears of the fish containing the radiation from Kalpakkam through the sea. He further stated, “Why is Modi not doing this in UP or Gujarat? His goal is to destroy Tamil Nadu in all ways possible.”

He also added that Stalin’s absence at the event was a ‘rajathanthiram’, a diplomatic move that he learned from Karunanidhi to avoid controversy, and Bharti highlighted the DMK government’s commitment to halt projects deemed detrimental to Tamil people’s interests, drawing parallels with the successful opposition to the Sterlite plant in the past.

Speaking to reporters on the issue, Annamalai said, “I am shocked and disappointed at the DMK leaders and other political leaders for spreading false information about the Fast Breeder Reactor at Kalpakkam. Especially among them is DMK’s organisational secretary, RS Bharathi. He is putting forth his opinion as the government’s opinion. I want a clarification on this. Is this the government’s stand? Is it the Chief Minister’s stand? That the Fast Breeder Reactor must not come to TN and that they are opposing it. They must clarify it to the people.”

Annamalai further elucidated about the Fast Breeder Reactor. He said, “Today we are a 3.8 trillion dollar economy and in 3-4 years, we are looking at becoming a 5 trillion dollar economy. Our country needs energy. We are importing petrol and diesel from othr countrues. We are also generating power using coal imported from other countries, but this is unsustainable and causes global warming. Now, our country, as envisioned by Modiji, is going in the direction of renewable energy source – solar, hydel power etc. Modiji has also given a date for becoming net carbon zero at COP event.”

He further added, “What is that Fast Breeder Reactor? As we know, if you put uranium 235 in a normal atomic reactor, it is fissile material and we get energy from it. After a period of time, Uranium 235 will become spent fuel, we take it out, and again we will load Uranium 235. This is a typical atomic reactor. Today, Russia, especially in their Ural mountains, created Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor with a new type of fuel called Thorium and Uranium 238, and this fast breeder is a technology that can make neutrons go faster. Thus, we call the technology as fast breeder reactor because it can produce more fuel than the amount of fuel that is used. Many countries in the world have tried to do it but none have been able to master this technology, only Russia has mastered it and is running this reactor.”

Speaking about the historic event, he said, “India has created history today, our scientists have loaded the prototype fast breeder reactor which can be in our Kalpakkam, core loading, i.e. the core in the central part of the reactor, this is historic for AtmaNirbhar Bharat, our scientists have done it for us to prove self-reliance. It has the potential to change our fuel consumption. Today 500 MW is the beginning, as you know the Kalpakkam reactor has been providing electricity to the whole of India without any problems. On the one hand, developing India needs more electricity, and that electricity should be from renewable sources. We do not have Uranium 235, if you have to buy Uranium 235, you have to go to nuclear suppliers group NSG, negotiate and buy it from there, no one is going to give it to India. On the other hand, if we go towards Kanyakumari, Nagercoil, we have thorium there, we can convert it to Uranium 238.

My question is why is  the DMK that put up the Chinese national flag having a problem? When the fuel that can be manufactured in India using its own resources? Do they want to be like China, do they want to import coal from China? Today, why is the DMK preventing us from using Thorium and Uranium 238 for our own efforts? It is very very safe. You know nuclear reactors are present all over the world, Kalpakkam is very very safe. No one will have any problem, it is under safety audit.”

A recent gathering took place to commemorate the birthday of DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin in Salavakkam near Uthramerur, Kanchipuram district. The event, led by DMK union secretary Kumar and attended by Uttaramerur assembly member Sundar and Kanchipuram MP G. Selvam, featured DMK’s Organizing Secretary RS Bharati as a speaker.

During his address, Bharati made incendiary remarks against opposition party leaders, including former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu MG Ramachandran (MGR) and Prime Minister Modi, while also making unsubstantiated claims.

When discussing MGR, he mocked the circumstances of his death, linking it to the AIADMK founder’s speech where he called for the banning of the DMK.

Prior to the Kanchipuram conference, MGR addressed a gathering in Trichy. During this speech, against the backdrop of SD Somasundaram leaving the party, the venue witnessed a sparse crowd. An agitated MGR expressed his intention to ban the DMK then. The following day, Karunanidhi spoke at Kanchipuram questioned who was that who wanted to ban the DMK (here Karunanidhi has used disrespectful terms to address MGR in singular). Unfortunately, this speech by MGR turned out to be his final public meeting address.

RS Bharathi said, The last speech was when he said that he would ban the DMK. His arms and legs were paralysed, he was admitted to Apollo, and remained speechless and gone. I want Modi to understand this and that is why I am reminding him of it.

In response to the recent criticism from PM Narendra Modi in his Thoothukudi speech, RS Bharathi said, “All those who said they will destroy the DMK have been destroyed themselves. If you have to understand history, Modi must realise that he is not greater than Pandit Nehru.”

Bharathi slipped the truth that Nehruvian Congress had also considered sidelining the DMK but later managed to get hold by contesting that even though DMK helped his daughter Indira Gandhi.

He said, Do you know what Nehru once remarked about the DMK? He said, ‘I’ll pack the DMK to whichever nation it wants’. However, it was DMK and Kalaignar that gave a helping hand to the same Nehru’s daughter when she found herself in a predicament.

Later, RS Bharathi took pride in the DMK advocating for a separate nation, leading to the creation of a distinct IPC act to impede such aspirations. He said, “You go to every town and poach ministers and buy MLAs, but in Tamil Nadu you can’t even touch the slippers of DMK’s last-mile cadres. Even if he dies, he will not change his party and survive. If someone asks Dravida Nadu as a separate nation, 7 years of imprisonment. Today’s politicians doesn’t know the fact. To the Indian Penal Code Section 153, they added a separate section 153 A, to give 7 years imprisonment. They changed the law exclusively for the DMK in 1962. Even with law, they could not destroy DMK. Can you destroy it by shouting?”

Later, he made misogynistic and sexist comments about the DMK using their unique symbol to contest elections, mocking other political parties. He said, There is no other party in India except DMK which contests under the same symbol from the day the party was started and stood in the elections till now. Be it 1957 or 1962, 1967 or 1971 – it was all under the rising sun symbol, we are competing under the rising sun symbol till 2021. Mr. Modi, does any other party in India can claim of such a thing? If people are angry in the village, they will say something like “I am born to one father”, and similarly in politcs, only DMK men can say that they’re born to one father. This man came and talked yesterday without knowing this pride.

In response to RS Bharati’s above claims, netizens promptly ridiculed him and debunked the lies by sharing an article containing data that contradicted the claim. The article highlighted that the DMK did not consistently align itself with the rising sun symbol; instead, it initially contested elections using the rooster symbol.

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader and Organisational Secretary of the party, RS Bharathi was in the news over the weekend for his racist and derogatory comments on the people of Nagaland.

If someone who eats dog meat themselves has so much self-respect that they chased away this governor, then imagine how much self-respect Tamils, who consume food with salt, would have. The day he was chased away, the people of Nagaland celebrated it like Deepavali.”

But this isn’t his first time in making derogatory comments about an individual or a community. Here is a list of the many instances where Bharathi ran his mouth about various public figures and people.

Insulting EPS

Dravidian Movement’s Alms That Dalits Could Become Judges In TN

R S Bharathi was arrested by the Central Crime Branch of the Chennai city police in May 2020 for allegedly making inflammatory remarks at a party meeting in February. Speaking at an event in Anbagam (the DMK youth wing headquarters), in February 2020, he said If Tamil Nadu remains the best state, it is because of the Dravidian movement.

Redlight Media

North Indians Are Fools

At a meeting (in an undated video), Bharathi is seen saying, “The reason why Tamil Nadu is the best state in India is because of the DMK. The people in the other states are fools, they have no brains, these north Indians, I am saying this openly.”

In what seems to be a clear instance of showing disrespect for the court, on Thursday, August 24, 2023, DMK organization secretary R.S. Bharathi alleged that Justice N. Anand Venkatesh of the Madras High Court had employed a selective approach when initiating suo motu revisions regarding the acquittal of Higher Education Minister K. Ponmudy and the discharge of Revenue Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran and Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu in corruption cases filed against them during the AIADMK regime.

After taking suo-motu cognizance of the irregularities in DMK Minister’s K. Ponmudi’s acquittal, the Madras High Court has now initiated an independent review of the cases involving Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) minister KKSSR Ramachandran and Thangam Thennarasu, who were separately acquitted of charges related to disproportionate assets.

KKSSR Ramachandran, the current revenue minister of Tamil Nadu, along with his wife and close associates, was cleared of charges by the Principal Sessions Court in Srivilliputhur in July of this year. This case was initiated in 2011. Similarly, in December 2022, Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu and his spouse were acquitted by the same court in a disproportionate assets case from 2012. This case pertained to the period when he served as the School Education Minister in the DMK government between 2006 and 2011.

While hearing the suo-motti appeal against the lower court judge, Justice Anand Venkatesh said “a constitutional court cannot shut its eyes when the criminal justice system is subverted. If this is allowed, I feel I will be failing in my duty.”. He further added “This has shocked the conscience of the court and therefore I am ordering notice to the accused and the prosecution”.

Justice Anand Venkatesh said that he couldn’t sleep for 3 nights after reading the judgement given by the lower courts in the disproportionate assets case of both the ministers.

“I have nothing against any individual but I see the investigating officers have changed their stand after 2021.”, he said.

In the aftermath of these remarks and the subsequent ruling against DMK ministers by Justice Anand Venkatesh, numerous individuals on social media condemned the DMK for purportedly undermining the integrity of the criminal justice system. The Tamil mainstream media, largely influenced by Dravidian political ideology, notably remained silent on this issue, seemingly due to the fact that it involved DMK ministers facing legal repercussions.

In this situation, DMK’s organization secretary, RS Bharathi, held a press conference where he openly criticized Justice Anand Venkatesh. Many of his remarks could be interpreted as direct contempt of court. RS Bharathi stated, “In relation to the DMK, it’s important to note that we hold the Judiciary in high regard. Historically, we have emerged victorious in numerous court cases. However, the recent verdicts that have emerged within the past week, all pertaining to DMK ministers, appear to have been presented in a manner that aims to damage the reputation of both the DMK and the government. As a result, we feel compelled to address certain matters for the public’s clarity.”

Indirectly casting aspersions, RS Bharathi said, “We are all aware of how the late CM Jayalalitha sought retribution against judges who ruled against her. For instance, when Judge Srinivasan issued verdicts against the ADMK government, Jayalalitha cut off electricity, water, and drainage services to the judge’s residence. Similarly, Judge Sathyadev also faced reprisals from Jayalalitha when he delivered judgments unfavorable to the ADMK government. In another instance, Jayalalitha initiated a Ganja case against the son-in-law of Chennai High Court Judge A.R. Laxmanan. However, at that time, DMK condemned these actions by Jayalalitha.”

Implying ulterior motives behind the recent judgment, RS Bharathi argued that Justice Anand Venkatesh had taken suo-motto action against the acquittals of DMK ministers, yet he did not entertain the petition submitted by DMK regarding the then ADMK CM Edappadi Palanisamy’s alleged involvement in a 3600 crore corruption case related to a tender award. He remarked, “Justice Anand Venkatesh, who previously asserted that DMK should not occupy the court’s time to play politics when we filed a 3600 crore corruption case against ADMK minister, has now delivered a judgment concerning a mere ₹44 lakhs disproportionate asset case. The same judge who could not find time for the ₹3600 crore case has now dedicated his time to the ₹44 lakhs disproportionate asset case.”

According to Mr. Bharathi, DMK Ministers had been acquitted or discharged on grounds that were applied by courts to acquit or discharge former Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam and former Ministers Natham R. Viswanathan and B. Valarmathi. “But the judge seemed to have followed a policy of pick and choose. Though Judges have to power to hear an appeal, it should not be with a revenge motive. If the judge discriminates by not taking a suo-motto appeal against the ADMK minister but will use the powers only against the DMK ministers, then we have no other option but to appeal to the Supreme Court,” he alleged.

RS Bharathi highlighted that Mr. Thennarasu was accused of amassing assets totaling ₹74 lakh, while Mr. Ramachandran faced allegations of ₹44 lakh. He remarked, “With ₹74 lakh, one can only afford a 600-square-foot property in Nanganallur (a locality in Chennai), and for ₹44 lakh, merely a 400-square-foot space. However, the High Court has scheduled hearings for them (the Ministers) during its prime hours,” he commented.

In this situation, attorney R. Krishnamurthy lodged an appeal yesterday in front of Judge N. Anandvenkatesh, requesting that the statements made by RS Bharati be regarded as an act of contempt towards the court, and consequently, a case of contempt of court should be pursued against him.

Nevertheless, Judge Anand Venkatesh declined to initiate contempt proceedings, stating, “I have fulfilled my obligations in accordance with the law and my own conscience. Individuals in the public eye will express their opinions freely. However, I will not be unsettled or troubled by it.”

“Only I know whether I have acted true to my conscience or not. Others can give multiple interpretations, this way or that way. I will not get into all those things because I have a better job to do, which is to take care of the last litigant standing before this Court. I am more concerned about that; I am not concerned about anything else,” the judge went on to say.

Furthermore, the Judge emphasized that he would compromise his capacity as a judge if he were to be upset by the remarks put forth by RS Bharathi during the interview. He added that he would never take such comments seriously.
