The seventh State conference of the Puthiya Tamilagam was held on Wednesday, 6 January 2026, at Amma Thidal, located on the Madurai-Pandi temple ring road, where the party adopted 36 resolutions calling for political change in Tamil Nadu ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.

Among the resolutions passed were demands for the lighting of the Karthigai Deepam atop the Thirupparankundram Hill, the formation of a coalition government in 2026 in which Puthiya Tamilagam would have a stake, and the removal of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government from power.

Addressing the conference, party president K Krishnasamy called upon members of the Devendrakula Vellalar community to unite and emerge as a decisive political force in the 2026 Assembly elections. He said that merely asserting caste identity would not yield results and that political power could be achieved only by converting social identity into collective electoral strength.

Krishnasamy alleged that during the past five years, more than 25,000 higher-level government positions that should have been filled by members of the Devendrakula Vellalar and Paraiyar communities, classified under Adi Dravidars, were not allotted. He criticised other political parties for failing to raise this issue in the Assembly.

Taking aim at the DMK government, Krishnasamy accused it of committing repeated mistakes and claimed that as long as the present dispensation remained in power, government welfare schemes would not effectively reach the people. He said removing the DMK government was the only solution to address these issues.

He also criticised Chief Minister MK Stalin, describing him as arrogant and alleging that other political parties were complicit in enabling what he termed governance failures. He accused the DMK of reneging on its electoral promise to abolish the NEET examination after coming to power.

Referring to the Thirupparankundram issue, Krishnasamy questioned why prohibitory orders were imposed by the government even after a court had permitted the lighting of the Deepam on the hill.

Drawing a comparison with international developments, Krishnasamy claimed that the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister had committed graver mistakes than those attributed to the President of Venezuela. He further questioned what punishment should be meted out to a Chief Minister who had allowed the opening and functioning of liquor shops across the State.

On alliances, Krishnasamy stated that Puthiya Tamilagam would align only with a party willing to offer it a share in governance.

Among the resolutions adopted was a demand for the allocation of 2.5 acres of land each to families of Manjolai tea plantation workers, the abolition of vote-for-cash practices, the lighting of the Karthigai Deepam atop Thiruparankundram Hill, and the consolidation of the Devendrakula Vellalar community under the banner of Puthiya Tamilagam.

A centre titled “World Devendrakula Vellalar,” based in Madurai, was inaugurated as part of the conference. Party youth wing president Shyam Krishnasamy, along with State and district-level functionaries, participated in the event.

Justice P Velmurugan of the Madras High Court raised concerns over the Tamil Nadu police’s role in denying permission for a rally proposed by the Puthiya Tamilagam (PT) party. The court questioned whether the police acted as a “government agency or a political agency” when they rejected the rally application just a day before the scheduled date, despite the request being filed weeks earlier.

The issue arose from a petition filed by PT founder-president K. Krishnasamy, challenging the rejection of his party’s rally in Chennai. The Greater Chennai City Police Commissioner issued the rejection order on 6 November 2024, for a rally planned for 7 November 2024. Justice Velmurugan criticized the timing of the decision, emphasizing that such orders should be issued well in advance to avoid inconvenience and allow organizers to seek legal recourse if necessary.

The judge directed the police to explain their actions and granted them until 22 January 2025 to file a counter affidavit. The petitioner also sought ₹1 crore in compensation for the losses incurred by party members, who had traveled from various districts to participate in the rally.

Dr. Krishnasamy explained that the rally was organized to address demands, including the withdrawal of the 3% internal reservation granted to Arunthathiyars within the 18% Scheduled Castes quota for education and jobs. The party had initially applied for permission on 18 October 2024, to hold a march from Munroe statue to Chepauk.

Following a meeting with the Joint Commissioner of Police (Intelligence) on 26 October 2024, the venue was shifted to Rajarathinam Stadium in Egmore, with the revised application submitted the same day.

The party had also secured permission from the Raj Bhavan to submit a memorandum to the Governor after the rally. However, on 6 November 2024, the police cited “reliable information” suggesting that the number of participants would exceed the stated figure, potentially causing traffic disruptions and posing a law-and-order threat. A copy of the rejection order was reportedly found pasted on the wall of the party office on 7 November 2024, when participants had already assembled in Chennai.

Dr. Krishnasamy alleged that the last-minute denial caused significant hardship to party members, many of whom had spent considerable amounts on travel and accommodations. He further claimed that participants, including himself, were detained in a poorly ventilated hall for six hours on 7 November 2024, adding to their ordeal.

It is noteworthy that TN Police denied permission to BJP, PMK and other parties for protest requests with respect to the Anna University sexual assault. However, permission was granted to the DMK for protesting against TN Governor RN Ravi over the national anthem row.

In a significant development, the DMK government in Tamil Nadu ordered the closure of 500 TASMAC (Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation) liquor shops across the state. DMK Minister Senthil Balaji had made the announcement to close 500 shops during the last Assembly session regarding demand for grants.

Following this announcement, the Home Department issued an order on April 20, which identified the 500 TASMAC retail outlets to be closed, effective from today, June 22.

The list of selected shops for closure was determined based on recommendations from zonal managers. Factors considered included low income, limited space, proximity to places of worship and educational institutions, previous court orders, public protests, and longstanding objections from building owners. Consequently, these shops will remain permanently closed starting today.

However the move has been criticized by Puthiya Tamizhagam party.

Dr. Krishnasamy, President of Puthiya Tamilagam said that the announcement by the DMK government is humbug.

He said that at the outset this move of DMK government may seem like a step towards prohibition but in reality it is not. He alleged that those TASMAC shops that threaten the business of FL-2 license bar are only being closed.

Shyam Krishnasamy, expressing his dissent on Twitter, stated, “After allowing 2,000 entertainment clubs (FL-2 license bars) and projecting an increase in liquor sales revenue from ₹43,000 crore to ₹52,000 crore in the upcoming year, the DMK has only pretended to close down 500 TASMAC outlets!”

Head of Puthiya Thamilagam (PT) Dr K Krishnasamy on Wednesday (10 May 2023) called on Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi and submitted a memorandum, urging him to grant permission to file case against Chief Minister MK Stalin and Minister for Electricity, Prohibition and Excise V Senthilbalaji in connection with an alleged scam to the tune of ₹1 lakh crore.

Earlier in the day, a protest held by Puthiya Tamilagam Party towards the Governor’s House demanding the implementation of total alcohol prohibition in Tamil Nadu. The Party’s Chief Krishnasamy, who was accompanied by his son Shyam Krishnasamy took out a march along with his party functionaries from Rajarathinam Stadium in Egmore towards Raj Bhavan demanding to enforce total prohibition in the State. The AMMK also extended its support to the rally.

While addressing the reporters, the leader of the Puthiya Thamilagam Party said, ”Governor should investigate the ₹1 lakh crore scam in liquor purchase, retail sale, even empty cartons, and should order to stop liquor purchase until Minister Senthil Balaji and other top officials are punished”.

The youth wing leader of Puthiya Tamilagam Party, Shyam Krishnasamy said, ”Many may think that alleged one lakh crore scam in liquor sales are just exaggerated numbers. When examining the TASMAC malpractices, it is clear that the department is being run to earn money for these corrupt magnates rather than making money for the government!”.

Puthiya Tamizhagam Chief Dr. Krishnasamy questioned Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on the discrimination in giving Ex-Gratia amount and urged CM MK Stalin to give Rs 10 lakhs to each of the families who lost their lives in the Munnar incident.

In a statement released on 27th April, Dr. Krishnasamy said, “On April 22, 2023, three people from the Manoor area of Tirunelveli district died on the spot in a vehicle accident in Munnar, Kerala state. More than 20 people were seriously injured. Two of the treated patients died. They are all from poor, simple agricultural labor families.”

He added, “We have requested that ₹10 lakhs be distributed from the Chief Minister Relief Fund to the families of the five people killed in the incident. Even after nearly a week, the government is yet to provide the Ex Gratia amount to the families.”

The victims of the accident include 55-year-old Janaki, 59-year-old Perumal, and his 79-year-old mother Valliammal, 8-year-old boy Suseendran and 4-year-old Susilendran.

Dr. Krishnasamy further added, “When two people died in a fire 5000 km away in an Arabian country, the Tamil Nadu government announced a ₹10 lakh compensation. The Tamil Nadu government has the responsibility to assist Tamils regardless of where they belong to. The government, which compensated the families of those who died in the fire accident in Arabia, should also compensate the families of those who died in the Munnar incident.”

He ended by saying, “Furthermore, no government should act in a discriminatory manner. It is, however, in no way appropriate not to compensate the five Tamil families who may have been pushed into poverty as a result of the Munnar vehicle accident last week. This demonstrates that the government acted discriminatorily. Therefore, I reiterate that ₹10 lakhs should be given to the families of the victims who died in the Munnar road accident as soon as possible.”

It is worth noting that the DMK government has given the family of VAO Loorth Francis, who was killed by the sand mafia in Thoothukudi, an Ex Gratia amount of ₹1 crore. However, the family of D Lakshmanan, deceased army personnel who died in an August 2022 terrorist attack in Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir, received only ₹20 lakhs.

Following the arrest of 24-year-old Pradeep, one of the admins of the Voice of Savukku Twitter handle, social media is now flooded with memes and troll videos mocking Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, Finance Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan, and their announcement about “eligible beneficiaries” for a monthly assistance scheme for woman head of the family.

Netizens shared abusive tweets made by DMK comrades derogating women and wondered if the police department would take action against the DMK cadres.

Several opposition leaders including the Tamil Nadu BJP President Annamalai condemned the arrest of a 24-year-old Pradeep for a video meme criticizing the DMK government and its policies.

In this context, Dr. Krihnasamy of the Puthiya Tamizhagam party condemned Pradeep’s arrest for a video meme. Posting abusive speeches by DMK leaders, including TN CM MK Stalin, Dr. Krishnasamy questioned the DMK government, saying, “If you are going to take action on people who insult women, when are you going to take action on the Dravidian Model Obscene Speakers?”

DMK leader Saidai Sadhik proudly explained in a public meeting, how former CM Karunanidhi verbally abused women congress MLA in the assembly. He said, “A female Congress MLA called Ananthanayaki had questioned in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, as to where the so-called Dravida Nadu (Dravidian country) was, to which Karunanidhi replied saying she should lift her petticoat and check underneath to find it.”

During the 2016 election campaign, MK Stalin made sexual innuendos about then-CM Jayalalithaa and the ADMK candidates, claiming, “Their campaign stages will have multiple levels at different heights. Jayalalitha used to sit on the top level of the stage while the candidates were seated below her on the bottom level…Jayalalitha is on top and the candidates below…(Stalin laughs)..I am just saying… nothing else.”

During the peak of the election campaign in March 2021, DMK Lok Sabha MP and the party’s deputy general secretary A. Raja spoke ill of then CM Palaniswami’s mother when he was canvassing in support of DMK candidate Ezhilan in the Thousand Lights constituency in Chennai. He said, “Our DMK leader Stalin is the leader who was born of pure blood and as a fully grown healthy baby, as well as by legitimate means, whereas Edappadi Palaniswami was born premature, and was born out of an illegitimate relationship.”

PM Narendra Modi was verbally abused by DMK leader Shivaji Krishnamoorthy, who said, “Okkalao**li.. You bloody tea vendor… if Modi, who travels the world on public money, can become Prime Minister of India, why can’t Rahul Gandhi, whose family donated their entire fortune to the country, become Prime Minister? Okkaro**li..”

Udhayanidhi Stalin made disgusting remarks about Edappadi K. Palaniswami’s appointment as Chief Minister saying that he would have ‘gone inside Sasikala’s legs’ to get the post of CM.

A DMK leader abused the ADMK spokesperson on a Youtube channel, saying, “Vindhya (ADMK stage speaker)… She is a Kodambakkam item (Prostitute) from Andhra. She is a number one piece. She worked as a prostitute in Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Rajmundri. She visited several lodges in Hosur. Vindhya gave a rape complaint against a businessman in Hosur. But the doctor in Hosur who examined her said, She cannot be raped because she is a platform case (roadside prostitute).”

Another DMK leader made derogatory remarks about Jayalalitha, saying, “Jayalalitha, who has gone (to sleep with) half of Tamil Nadu’s voters, is questioning our leader Karunanidhi. O**ale… You have an excessive sexual desire. You sought that Stalin and Karunanidhi come to you after resigning. Tell us where they should come.”

He also said,” You (Jayalalitha) are always claiming that you don’t have kids to amass wealth Is it our fault? We would have tried if you had asked us at the right time. You are telling us now. Even if you try now, it will not happen (Jayalalitha becoming pregnant).”

DMK Krishnamoorthy made sexual remarks about VK Sasikala in a public meeting. He said, “ADMK leaders were saying that they will make Chinnamma (VK Sasikala) as Amma (Jayalalitha). I wondered how they will make her pregnant as Natarajan (Sasikala’s husband) who tried for 35 years could not make it, how ADMK leaders are going to make it possible?”

DMK leader Saidai Saidik said during a public meeting, “There is a person called SP Velumani, Minister for Municipal Administration. He looks like an item (Prostitute). The only thing that remains is that he did not travel to Bombay to carry out the operation.”

While campaigning for Congress candidate EVKS Elangovan ahead of the Erode East bypolls, Kamal Haasan made a veiled reference targeting late AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa stating that she created hurdles for his film Vishwaroopam.

He siad ”When I took Vishwaroopam, an ‘ammayar’ created hurdles in its release and ridiculed me. Then, ‘Kalaingar’ (M Karunanidhi) called me over the phone and asked whether I needed any help and not to fear. I told him, I will take care of it myself as it is not a national issue. Even the current Chief Minister MK Stalin called me over phone and assured help,”.

However, he has been called out by many like senior journalists ‘Thuglak’ Ramesh and Mani for peddling lies and denigrating the late Jayalalithaa even after her death, for the sake of votes.

While many called his statement as an attempt to woo DMK for securing a seat in 2024 Lok Sabha elections, his statement about Jayalalithaa has opened the pandora box revealing his past shenanigans.

When Krishnasamy Made Kamal Go Bonkers: The Sandiyar – Virumaandi Saga

Kamal Haasan starrer Virumaandi is today known as a movie that spoke of capital punishment with the film narrated in a Roshomon-esque style. However, this film of Kamal Haasan too was mired in controversies. Initially, the film was titled ‘Sandiyar’. In Tamil, the word Sandiyar refers to a glorified ruffian and is often construed to belonging to the dominant Thevar caste.

With the film being set in Theni district (an area where Thevar population is concentrated), and the plot revolving around Thevar castes, it caught the attention of Puthiya Tamilagam party’s chief Dr. K. Krishnasamy.

As the initial posters and promos of the film showed Kamal having caste identities and holding billhooks, Dr. Krishnasamy argued that the film valorises the Thevars with whom the Dalits have been perpetually at loggerheads often resulting in communal violence.

Dr. Krishnasamy charged that the film threatens to bring back the ‘aruval’ (sickle) culture which has claimed many lives in Tamil Nadu charged and threatened to disrupt the shooting.

Kamal appealed for police protection for his film unit, and had even paid them for it. But the actor was asked to pack up and leave. Then Theni Superintendent of Police Amalraj told Kamal that there would be law and order issues if the shooting commenced and returned the money offered for police protection. During a press meet in Chennai, when Jayalalithaa was asked whether police protection would be given to the film crew for shooting, she stated that it wasn’t the job of the police. Following this, Kamal later approached then Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

What transpired between the two remains a secret but after the negotiations held between the two sides, Kamal was made to change the title of the film to Virumaandi.

Even today, there is a clip available on YouTube in which a seemingly drunk Kamal Haasan goes on a rant upset about the controversy surrounding the film name, courtesy Dr. Krishnasamy.

Kamal Prostrating Before Jayalalithaa

Kamal’s production house Raaj Kamal Films later published an advertisement in leading dailies praising and thanking Jayalalithaa for her advice.

“With the ripening of time, and realizing my situation, I on behalf of Raaj Kamal Films International artists, technicians and workers heartfully thank Jayalalithaa for offering a just advice. With love, Kamal Haasan”, read the ad.

This incident was recollected and shared on social media by Dr. Krishnasamy’s son Dr. Shyam Krishnasamy of Puthiya Tamilagam.

He tweeted ”Let’s keep aside the support given by Karunanidhi to Viswaroopam. But when Kamal Haasan did ‘Sandiyathanam’ (indulging in nefarious activities), did he forget that it was the ‘ammaiyaar’ who gave ‘just advice’ and saved him and his film? It is not just the movie name that was changed, Kamal’s sting too!

Puthiya Tamilagam Chief Dr. Krishnasamy has slammed the DMK for using the anti-Hindi imposition protest and opposition to Governor RN Ravi as a shield to conceal its defeat in governance.

Puthiya Tamilagam Party held a party functionary meeting at a private wedding hall in Kovilpatti, Thoothukudi district, headed by its President Dr. Krishnasamy. Following this, a protest was held in front of the Kovilpatti taluk office, condemning the DMK government and demanding that the electricity tariff increase be reversed.

Dr. Krishnasamy, who spoke to the Press after the protest, said, ” The DMK stated in its last election manifesto that electricity readings would be taken once a month. However, the DMK government has raised the electricity tariff. The DMK, which claims to be the Dravidian model, must fulfill its promise in words and action.”

He added,” Coimbatore is becoming a hub for terrorists. International conspiracies are centered around Coimbatore. A social harmony rally will be held in Coimbatore on November 17th to create harmony among people from all walks of life. It will be attended by people of all religions.”

He said, “Even after 18 months in power, the DMK has yet to implement a complete prohibition of alcohol in Tamil Nadu, despite having promised to do so. The DMK is breaking all of its promises. The DMK government has been criticizing the governor and using anti-Hindi protests to cover up its governance failures.” He added that the DMK government is fighting against the imposition of unimposed Hindi.

He further said, ” The price of milk has been hiked due to mismanagement in the Aavin department, and not because of an increase in procurement costs. The government should publish a white paper on milk procurement prices. The DMK will face backlash for raising milk prices in the near future.”

“Why didn’t the government take preventative measures when it was clear that rain would cause problems in Chennai? The DMK government is losing ground on a daily basis, and everyone from MPs to MLAs to panchayat leaders is involved in mineral looting,” he stated.

He concluded by saying, “DMK officials are illegally operating bars near TASMAC outlets. Everything is going wrong and against the promises made by the DMK government. When they are unable to carry out their promise of implementing the old pension scheme and resolving transport department issues, they resort to anti-Hindi imposition to conceal their failure in governance. Where is the imposition of Hindi? The DMK is giving the impression that Hindi is being imposed.”

Puthiya Tamilagam Founder Chief Dr. Krishnasamy was arrested by the Tamil Nadu police for protesting against the MK Stalin-led DMK government’s decision to hike electricity tariff.

It was announced that a protest demonstration will be held on 2 November 2022 behalf of Puthiya Tamilagam party near Virudhunagar Old Bus Stand against the DMK government’s move to hike electricity tariff and demanding the monthly payment system for paying electricity bill. 

Dr. Krishnasamy was coming to Virudhunagar by car from Madurai to participate in the demonstration. When he reached the Tirumangalam tollgate in Madurai district, around 40 cars followed him. The police stopped Krishnasamy and the convoy of cars that followed him saying that only 4 vehicles will be allowed. This led to a heated argument between members of the Puthiya Tamilagam party and the police with the latter eventually taking Krishnasamy into custody. 

It is worth mentioning that Dr. Krishnasamy had obtained prior permission for the protest.

The Puthiya Tamilagam party executives of Virudhunagar district, who were informed about this, gathered in front of Virudhunagar old bus station and staged a demonstration, condemning the arrest of Dr. Krishnasamy. Around 85 members of Puthiya Tamilagam were arrested. Members of the party who were protesting on the four-lane road in front of the Virudhunagar District Collectorate were also arrested.

AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami and BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai condemned the arrest of Dr. Krishnasamy calling it an anti-democratic act.

Puthiya Tamilagam party chief Dr. K. Krishnasamy has acccused Tamil cinema directors of poisoning young minds and exploiting them by glorifying violence and obscenity.

He also said that a few Tamil cinema directros are peddling distorted history for politcal agenda.

“Tamil directors incorporate more violent and obscene scenes in their films. Watching such films spoils youngsters. If the current trend continues, sickle culture will spread throughout Tamil Nadu. Directors make such films because they are aware of the weaknesses of today’s generation. They mislead them.”, he said.

He further went on to say that Kamal Haasan’s film Virumaandi glorified casteism and sickle culture which has spoilt Tamil culture.

“The 2004 film Chandiyar (Virumandi), which glorifies casteism and sickle culture and features obscene scenes, has damaged Tamil culture. If you constantly promote negative thoughts in three-hour film and only offer positive advice at the end, your message won’t go through to the audience. Tamil Nadu’s politics is decided by the cinema industry, which ought to have been solely for enjoyment.”, Dr. Krishnasamy said.

He also cited the example of Komban film featuring Karthi saying that his party had protested against the movie as it had glorified violence.

“When we protested against Komban movie, which had so many violent scenes, many people in the film industry questioned whether it was appropriate to restrict freedom of speech. The same director who previously stated that movies should only be enjoyed for their entertainment value now advocates using them as a political tool to propagate their agenda.”, he said in light of the recent controversy about using films for politicizing society.

He continued, “What we wanted to convey to the film industry is that you should concentrate solely on your business and refrain from using movies for political purposes.”

He accused the Tamil film industry of distorting Tamil history and fomenting animosity among Tamil communities.

He added, “People in film industry promote Periyar. However, Periyar himself stated that we should abolish cinema as we do alcohol. There have been attempts by the film industry to get Tamil youths addicted to cinema, much like a large number of them became drug addicts in Tamil Nadu. We warn film actors, directors, and producers who attempt to distort Tamil history in order to advance their own political agenda.”

Dr. Krishnasamy also responded to the claim made by some celebrities that there is only Saivism and Vaishnavism in Tamilnadu and no Hinduism.

“Saivam and Vainavam are both branches of the Hindu religion, just as Christianity has divisions such as Roman Catholics, Protestants, and Muslims have Shia and Sunny. I’m curious as to how these folks, who have such a poor understanding of religion, make movies. Indian culture regards everyone and everything as deserving of reverence, including trees. They are all elements of Hinduism. Worshipping the sun god and the cow during Pongal is also part of Hindu tradition. Despite having no knowledge and no basic grasp of the faith, they (film celebrities) speak like intellectuals in the movie. They are all agents of other religion. They are mercinaries.”, he said.

In response to the current debates surrounding Hinduism in Tamil Nadu, he said that they were attempts to establish a narrative for the 2024 parliament elections.

Talking about the incident in Chidambaram few days ago where a polytechnic college student tied Mangalsuthra (Thaali) to a schoolgirl in uniform at the bus stop, Krishnasamy claimed that Tamil cinema had tainted the youths of Tamil Nadu, leading to the boy’s attempt to show his heroism.

He also implied criticism for Nayanthara, who announced the birth of her child just four months after getting married. He also said that the time has come to completely abolish cinema.
