In a telling development that exposes the ecosystem of narrative-building within Tamil Nadu’s Left-Dravidian media cult, The News Minute (TNM) quietly deleted an earlier glowing profile of Leftist-Dravidianist Mathur Sathya after the Communist Party of India (CPI) expelled him over serious allegations of sexual exploitation of women.

CPI Expels Mathur Sathya Over Sexual Misconduct Allegations

The CPI officially expelled Mathur Sathya from its primary membership, along with removing him from affiliated organisations such as the All India Youth Federation (AIYF) and the Indian Society for Cultural Cooperation and Friendship (ISCUF), following complaints of sexual harassment and exploitation.

The party has also escalated the matter legally, submitting a complaint to the Greater Chennai Police Commissioner and directing its members to sever all ties with him.

The allegations are not minor or isolated. Reports indicate that multiple women accused Sathya of misconduct, triggering internal deliberations within the party before disciplinary action was taken.

In his defence, Sathya claimed that all his interactions were “consensual” and alleged that he was not given an opportunity to present his side—an argument that has drawn sharp criticism given the nature of the accusations.

From ‘Progressive Voice’ To Political Liability

Until recently, Mathur Sathya was projected by sections of the Leftist and Dravidianist media as a rising intellectual voice—frequently platformed for his commentary on caste, social justice, and Dravidian politics.

He was associated with activist platforms and regularly appeared in debates championing Leftist and Dravidian ideological positions.

This carefully curated image now stands in stark contrast to the serious allegations that led to his expulsion—raising uncomfortable questions about how such figures are elevated within ideological ecosystems without scrutiny.

TNM’s Quiet Cleanup

TNM’s earlier coverage of Mathur Sathya was not merely neutral reporting—it veered into outright hagiography. He was portrayed as a grassroots intellectual voice and a champion of social justice, with his views on caste and Dravidian politics amplified without meaningful scrutiny.

This projection wasn’t limited to a single article—he was also platformed through TNM’s podcast ecosystem, where he was given space to articulate his ideological positions in a largely uncritical setting.

The cumulative effect was the construction of credibility around Sathya as a “progressive” voice. In hindsight, this uncritical amplification raises serious questions about editorial judgment and the ecosystem’s tendency to elevate ideologically aligned figures without adequate due diligence.

Amid the fallout, TNM reportedly deleted an earlier article that had portrayed Sathya in an overtly positive, almost hagiographic light.

The deletion, carried out without editorial acknowledgment, clarification, or transparency, has sparked criticism about selective storytelling and the lack of accountability within sections of the media.

The episode underscores a familiar pattern: individuals aligned with certain ideological narratives are amplified and glorified, only to be quietly erased when controversies emerge.

One of the most famous Dravidianist principles, as quoted by their leader K Veeramani citing their ideologue EV Ramasamy Naicker aka Periyar is ‘Enjoyment Without Responsibility’.

However, the Dravidianist men do not realise that enjoyment for them can be harassment for another.

In this post, we take a look at Dravidianist poster boys who have been propped up as intellectuals and leaders but turned out to sexual predators.

Vairamuthu

Known for his lyrics and ‘poetry’ in Tamil cinema, Vairamuthu was accused during the #MeToo movement in 2018 by at least 17 women led by playback singer Chinmayi Sripada who accused him of sexual harassment and assault. His alleged victims report he leveraged his position of absolute power over careers in the Tamil film industry. Chinmayi said she was blacklisted from Tamil voice-over work for speaking up with the industry’s tacit complicity. He denied everything. No FIR was filed. No investigation was ordered. The DMK ecosystem protected him in complete silence.

In 2021, he had penned a song that romanticizes pedophilia. The song is about a school-going girl in love with a grey-haired old ‘poet’ and was filmed with actor Anika Surendran who was 16 years old at that time.

Rajiv Gandhi

A few days ago, alleged chats of DMK leader Rajiv Gandhi were leaked on social media. These came to light after Junior Vikatan reported that one of the reasons for removing DMK leader Rajiv Gandhi from the post of Student Wing Secretary and reassigning him as Joint Secretary in the Propaganda Wing was allegations that he misbehaved with female party cadres.

The report stated that DMK leader Rajiv Gandhi has been sending inappropriate messages to some of the party’s female executives at night via Instagram and Facebook. “Despite their warnings, he did not stop. Following this, the female executives informed the higher-ups about the matter.“, the report said.

According to a report by News J Tamil, more than 35 women had complained of sexual harassment by DMK leader Rajiv Gandhi when he was the head of Student’s Wing.

Both Junior Vikatan and News J reported that the DMK was forced to act on Rajiv Gandhi and remove him from the post of Student’s Wing Secretary after complaints of sexual harassment. However, this move was seen as an eyewash as he was given another post in the DMK’s propaganda wing.

Leaked Instagram direct messages purportedly involving Rajiv Gandhi, engaging in suggestive and sexually charged conversations with what is alleged to be a female party cadre also did the rounds on social media. The screenshots show Rajiv Gandhi allegedly talking with a married female party executive about France being famous for French kiss and asking her a math question like “What is 23% of 300?” referring to ’69 position’ being ‘his favourite number and position’.

Rajiv Gandhi denied the screenshots doing the rounds as “fabricated” using “Fake Instagram Chat Generator”.

But many on social media vouch for the chat’s authenticity. A report by Minnambalam also notes that they’ve found the complaints against Rajiv Gandhi to be true.

When we spoke to DMK student union executives regarding this, complaints were made to Stalin, Udhayanidhi, and Kanimozhi that some female executives in the student union were under stress. The party leadership investigated these shocking complaints and confirmed that they were true. Information also reached the DMK leadership that some people affected by Rajiv Gandhi are ready to speak openly in public.”Minnambalam report said.

Zakir Hussain

Zakir Hussain, a Bharatanatyam dancer who became famous for his entry ban at Srirangam temple (celebrated by the Dravidian left as a secularism cause), was appointed by the DMK government as Advisor to all 17 District Government Music Schools under the Arts and Culture Department.

In February 2022, a woman instructor at the Karur District Government Music School filed a formal complaint stating that during an official inspection visit, Hussain called her alone into the Head Instructor’s office, closed the door, placed his hands on her shoulder and waist, and made inappropriate remarks. Her complaint stated: “I felt suicidal and depressed afterwards.” The Union of Tamil Nadu Arts and Culture Teachers noted complaints from multiple districts, not just Karur. The Tamil Nadu Arts and Culture Department confirmed receipt of the complaint. The DMK government that appointed him did not make any public statement on the outcome of the inquiry.

Mathur Sathya

On 15 March 2026, serious allegations of sexual misconduct started being levelled against Tamil Nadu-based activist affiliated with the Communist Party of India by several women.

In a press release, the CPI said that they received numerous complaints regarding Mathur Sathya’s behavior and also stated that a complaint has been filed with the Greater Chennai Police against him by the party’s Chennai district secretary SK. Siva.

The State Executive Committee meeting held on March 14, 2026, carefully examined the complaints and decided to immediately remove him from all positions he held in the party and its affiliated organizations AIYF and ISCUF. Furthermore, the Communist Party of India and its affiliated mass organizations AIYF and ISCUF have expelled Mathur Sathya from primary membership due to the gravity of the complaints received against him and the prima facie evidence that emerged during the inquiry. A complaint has also been filed with the Greater Chennai Police to take action in favour of the victim women.“, the press release stated.

In a social media post, he justified his actions saying that he did it with “explicit consent”.

The same person was propped up as an intellectual by The News Minute and more recently by PEN.

Interestingly, there was a time when he even admonished people for ‘supporting sexual predators’.

‘Periyar’ Saravanan & Lulu Group

In 2022, in an explosive revelation, a woman named Yuma Jaharo, who identified herself as a ‘Periyarist’ dropped a bomb alleging that a massive sex scandal had been happening within their ideological and political circles at the behest of those who claim to be followers of EV Ramaswamy Naicker aka ‘Periyar’.

Thamizhachi Author who is also known as France Thamizhachi gave a series of interviews to various Tamil YouTube channels where she mentioned about the rampant sex scandal and harassment meted out to several women by some of the Periyarist and Dravidianist groups. This gang of Periyarists indulged in creating a sex racket called the ‘Lulu group’.

According to Thamizhachi, a lady named ‘Lulu’ was inducting and inciting ‘sexually unsatisfied’ women (mostly married) to have illicit relationships with other men. They were also forced to send their private pictures in the form of “challenges”.

The main person accused of sexually exploiting the women according to Thamizhachi is ‘Periyar’ Saravanan. ‘Periyar’ Saravanan gets close with the women members of the group and asks them to share pictures of their navel, breasts and so on. Thamizhachi who was already aware of ‘Periyar’ Saravanan’s activities wanted to expose him and started to get close with him. He had allegedly asked Thamizhachi too to indulge in such sexual talks. She had allegedly gathered her evidence against ‘Periyar’ Saravanan’s activities during that time.

Amid the allegations, attention increasingly turned to the role of prominent Dravidian ideologue Suba Veerapandian (Suba Vee). According to activist France Thamizhachi, Suba Vee, who currently serves as Chairperson of the Tamil Nadu government’s Social Justice Monitoring Committee and holds positions in educational bodies, is alleged to have remained silent despite being aware of serious complaints involving exploitation of women. Thamizhachi further stated that there were attempts to “clear” or suppress evidence, with Suba Vee said to be directly or indirectly involved in protecting individuals accused in the case. Notably, Suba Vee has previously taken strong public positions on issues of social justice and women’s rights, including defending figures accused of misconduct. His alleged inaction in this case raises questions about selective activism and credibility within sections of the Dravidian ideological ecosystem.

Now it is not just these celebrities who are involved in such activities. We have a whole bunch of DMK functionaries, those who hold important positions in the party involved in sexual harassment of women.

DMK Youth Wing Functionary Deivaseyal

In May 2025, a 21-year-old college student from Arakkonam accused DMK youth wing functionary Deivaseyal of deception, abuse, and coercion under the pretext of marriage. According to her complaint, Deivaseyal, despite already being married, allegedly lured her into a relationship and conducted a second marriage with her. She claimed that he later began pressuring her into sexual activities involving influential politicians, effectively attempting to groom her for exploitation.

When she resisted, he allegedly subjected her to repeated physical abuse, harassment, and threats, including intimidation against her family. The survivor stated that he assaulted her, damaged her belongings, and continued to stalk and attack her even after she left him. She also alleged that he introduced her to other men and pressured her to engage with them.

The woman further claimed that the sustained abuse drove her to attempt suicide, while Deivaseyal allegedly continued to threaten her with impunity, claiming political protection.

DMK Councillor Who Harassed Flight Attendant

In March 2026, a DMK councillor from Tiruvallur, Prabhakaran, along with his associate Thiagu, was arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a 25-year-old IndiGo air hostess on a Chennai–Delhi flight. According to the complaint, both men, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, behaved inappropriately during boarding. They allegedly addressed the crew member disrespectfully, questioned her personal details, teased her, and slapped her on the back of her thigh while she was performing her duties. The incident was reported to police the same day. After failing to cooperate initially, the duo was arrested and booked under charges related to sexual harassment and outraging modesty.

DMK Functionary & Hockey Coach Harasses Schoolgirls

In August 2020, DMK functionary Shankar, a hockey coach at the Chettinad Women’s Hockey Club, was arrested for sexually harassing two schoolgirls under his training. The sisters from Madurai complained that Shankar repeatedly called them to rooms, harassed them, and threatened to kill them if they spoke out. Based on a complaint from their parents, police arrested Shankar and his assistant Kannan under the POCSO Act. He was the DMK Student Wing Organizer of Sakkottai west.

DMK Man & Anna University Sexual Assault Accused Gnanasekaran

DMK functionary Gnanasekaran, was accused of being a serial sexual offender. He allegedly molested two additional individuals: a temporary female worker in the food department at Anna University and the daughter of a Tehsildar, who has not yet filed a complaint. This is in addition to the primary Anna University sexual harassment case for which he was arrested.

It is further alleged that his arrest was delayed due to interference from his close associate, DMK Circle Secretary Shanmugam. Shanmugam reportedly came to the police station, threatened the officers, and took Gnanasekaran away during an inquiry, with the arrest only occurring the next day due to public protests. Both men are claimed to have worked under a notorious rowdy named ‘Gym’ Ezhumalai and are involved in illicit activities. Additionally, it is alleged that Gnanasekaran’s wife secured a temporary professor position at Anna University through the intervention of a DMK minister, pointing to a high-level cover-up to protect the accused.

DMK Functionary Assaults Woman For 6 Months

In November 2025, DMK Union Secretary Thiruvakkarai Baskaran went absconding after being accused of a horrific six-month-long sexual assault and blackmail. The 35-year-old victim, a married woman with a son, sought his help for construction materials. Baskaran allegedly exploited the situation, sexually assaulting her and recording the act. He then used the video to repeatedly blackmail and threaten her, forcing her to comply with his demands. The victim stated he ruined her life, and a case has been filed at the Kottakuppam All Women Police Station.

DMK Cadre Sexually Harassed Widow

In October 2023, DMK member Prabhu from Dindigul is accused of sexually harassing a vulnerable widow who sought his help. Saroja, a daily-wage worker and mother of a disabled son, contacted Prabhu for assistance due to his party affiliation. Instead of helping, he misused her number to send explicit videos and audio messages and subjected her to indecent video calls. When she blocked him, he threatened to use his political influence to harm her and kill her children if she did not comply with his demands. A complaint has been filed at the Odanchathiram police station.

The claim that Brahmins in Tamil Nadu never faced violence from the Dravidianists has been debunked several times and with larger amounts of proof coming up each time.

If one thought this was not reported much in India, that might be true. Unlike Kashmiri Pandit massacre and the Chitpavan massacre, the continued eviction and harassment that Tamil Brahmins have been facing did not go unnoticed by the New York Times back in the 1950s.

An archival report published by The New York Times on 6 December 1957 offers a rare international snapshot of caste tensions in South India during the height of the Dravidian movement, documenting what it described as a period of intense hostility directed at the Brahmin community.

The report, datelined New Delhi, detailed a surge in anti-Brahmin mobilisation led by Dravidian ideologue EV Ramasamy Naicker (popularly known as Periyar), noting that the campaign had already resulted in 2,884 arrests as authorities attempted to contain escalating unrest.

Parliament Briefed on Anti-Brahmin Activity

According to the report, India’s then Home Minister Govind Ballabh Pant presented findings to Parliament on what was described as a flare-up of anti-Brahmin activity. The developments were portrayed as not merely political agitation but a movement blending political, social, and racial rhetoric against the community.

The newspaper characterised the campaign as one of the central political weapons of Periyar’s Dravidian movement, which positioned itself as representing the interests of “original Dravidians” of South India.

Ideological Roots of the Conflict

The report explained that Dravidian activists accused Brahmins of historical domination alleging that Brahmins had “trampled and perverted” native traditions after migrating from the north centuries earlier.

However, from the standpoint of Brahmin communities, the period marked growing social insecurity. The report recorded incidents of intimidation and violence, including assaults on individuals performing religious rituals.

Calls for Violence Draw Alarm

One of the most alarming elements highlighted by the newspaper was rhetoric attributed to Periyar during the period.

It reported that on his seventy-ninth birthday, he had asked followers for a “birthday present”, the death of Brahmins, a statement that intensified national concern over incitement and public order.

The report further noted threats by sections of the movement to burn the Constitution of India, which they alleged had been framed under Brahmin influence.

Constitution Burning and Street Violence

Government briefings cited by the newspaper stated that members of Dravidian organisations had burned copies of the Constitution on November 26.

In addition, the Home Minister reported incidents where Brahmins engaged in ritual bathing were attacked, their sacred threads cut, and their traditional hair tufts shorn, acts seen as symbolic humiliation targeting religious identity.

Legislative Response: Anti-Insult Law

In response, the Madras State Legislature enacted a law, referred to in the report as the Prevention of Insults to National Honor Act, criminalising acts such as burning the Constitution or desecrating images of Mahatma Gandhi.

The move was presented as an attempt to curb extremist protest methods and restore civic order.

Social Climate and Brahmin Position

The New York Times piece observed that the unrest had made life “unpleasant” for Brahmins in parts of South India, even as the community continued to command social respect in other regions of the country.

It contextualised Brahmins’ traditional standing within Hindu society, as priests and custodians of ritual life, while also noting their disproportionate representation in education, administration, and government in early post-Independence India.

At the time, several top constitutional offices, including President, Prime Minister, and key Union ministers, were held by Brahmins, a factor that critics cited as evidence of elite dominance, but which supporters viewed as a reflection of educational advancement.

Historical Snapshot, Continuing Debate

The archival coverage remains significant today as it documents how caste politics, social reform movements, and identity conflicts were perceived internationally during a formative period in India’s political evolution.

A televised debate on News Tamil 24×7 witnessed a heated exchange between a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) supporter and ‘journalist’ Nelson, with sharp differences emerging over youth mobilisation, political culture, and the legacy of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

Participating in the debate ‘moderated’ by Dravidianist stock journo Nelson Xavier, TVK supporter Pradeep claimed that ground sentiment in Tamil Nadu was shifting in favour of actor-politician Vijay’s party.

“A lot of surveys are coming out… In those surveys, many young people are reportedly saying they are leaning toward TVK,” he said, adding that Vijay had been engaged in welfare initiatives such as Virundhagam, Payilagam, Vizhiyagam, Virundhu Vilagal and Kurudhiagam for nearly three decades, often without publicity.

He further alleged that rival parties projected themselves as youth-oriented while indulging in inducement-based mobilisation.

“In many of their meetings, we openly see that people are made to sit and are given biryani and beer… Is that ideological mobilisation?” he asked.

‘What Is Wrong If Beer Is Given?’: Nelson

Responding to the charge, journalist Nelson questioned the criticism.

“What is wrong if biryani and beer are given in meetings?” he asked during the debate.

Pradeep countered that such practices could not be equated with political ideology or policy.

“Is that politics? Is that ideology? What Vijay has said is that all this is not needed… It is enough to say what we don’t want,” Pradeep replied, adding that cinema and politics should not be conflated when it comes to public mobilisation.

Nelson, in turn, mocked the distinction, saying, “But when my leader sings ‘Andava konda…’ and dances, I(fan) feels happy – because that is cinema. Cinema is separate, politics is separate.”

Pradeep responded that real-life political gatherings could not justify inducements in the name of ideology.

“In public life, you cannot bring people together in the name of ideology and then serve beer and food and compare that to cinema events. That is not fair,” he said.

Exchange Over Jayalalithaa’s Legacy

The debate later shifted to the legacy of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, triggering another tense exchange.

Nelson questioned TVK leaders paying homage at her memorial.

“If you say that was personal sentiment – did you go to Jayalalithaa’s memorial when Sengottaiyan joined TVK? Was that your individual choice, or did your entire party go together?” he asked.

Pradeep responded by acknowledging her stature while conceding she had flaws.

“She too was a great personality. Did she have shortcomings? Certainly. Nobody is perfect… She was a ‘singapenn’ – a lioness. She was an Iron Lady,” he said.

Nelson pressed further, asking, “For whom was she the Iron Lady?”

Pradeep replied, “For the women of Tamil Nadu and the people of this country, she was an Iron Lady.”

‘Thalaivaa’ Film Row Raised

Nelson then brought up the controversy surrounding the Vijay-starrer Thalaivaa and its delayed release in Tamil Nadu.

“Vijay went and apologised to the Chief Minister over the Thalaivaa issue and released a video – was that not political?” he asked.

Pradeep responded that Vijay had approached the Chief Minister as per protocol. “At that time, she was the Chief Minister. If he doesn’t go to her, who should he go to?” he said.

He further argued that the film’s release issues had political undertones, citing objections to the tagline “Time to Lead.” “There was political interference… The tagline meant ‘time to take leadership,’” he said.

Nelson countered that banning or obstructing a film over a caption reflected arrogance.

“It shows arrogance – banning a film release over a caption. You could not condemn that arrogance on stage,” he said, questioning how leaders critical of such actions could still treat Jayalalithaa as a political guide.

Pradeep reiterated that he had not claimed she was flawless.

“I never said she was perfect. I’ve already said she made mistakes,” he said, while agreeing that the decision reflected “arrogance.”

]]>

A few days ago, we saw the IIT Madras head, Prof Kamakoti Veezhinathan, praising the Stalin government for the quality of laptops they had given the students of the state.

One would wonder how a Dravidianist party that denounced Brahmins, whose ideologue called for the genocide of Brahmins, can share a stage with one? That too with Prof Kamakoti, whose IIT is giving sleepless nights to the Dravidianists – haven’t you heard the man who vulgarized Lord Nataraja claim SC students are unaliving themselves at IIT more in number than Brahmin kids?

Why did they have to bring Dr Kamakoti on stage and have him praise the government? The answer lies in the fact that they crave Brahmin validation just as much as they crave the white man’s validation. Dravidianists entire existence will become zilch, worthless if you remove Brahmin from the equation. Some days ago, a Prof Jayaraman spoke about an arithmetic formula where he said Tamil – Parpaan (Brahmin) = Dravidian.

Let us change this a bit; Dravidianism – Brahmin = 0.

For all the talk about 100 years of social justice and taking pride in driving out Brahmins from Tamil Nadu, the Dravidianists still keep talking about the minuscule percentage that continues to live in the state. Remove Brahmins from the discourse, and the Dravidianist ecosystem will collapse.

Their so-called enemy’s existence is what keeps them alive. Dare them to speak about the other castes in the state, they won’t. Truth be told, the Justice Party came to existence because of a few disgruntled landed dominante caste members upset with the upward economic mobility of Brahmins. On the other hand, the Dravidianist DMK had to take the help of Rajaji, a Brahmin, to come to power.

For a movement that keeps claiming it has “annihilated Brahminism,” it simply cannot stop talking about Brahmins. Everything, right from when they wake up, take a dump, till they go to bed, everything still revolves around them. Their speeches, textbooks, pop culture, and conferences – all have the same common feature – bash the Brahmin.

And now even government events have to feature a Brahmin to have legitimacy. Just remove that Brahmin from the equation, as Prof Jayaraman did, and the whole thing has nothing to lean against; it just collapses. No enemy. No villain. No one to blame.

That’s why a Brahmin on stage matters so much. Not because of his expertise. Not because of governance. Because optics. “Look, even a Brahmin is praising us. Even they approve.”, that is the validation they want, badly. Ideology goes straight into the dustbin when insecurity rises.

This is also why caste is used so selectively. Brahmins are easy targets – politically and numerically insignificant. The safest punching bags. You can abuse them freely. Call them anything. Attribute anything to them. Ancient history, even when humans didn’t exist, modern problems, suicides, failures – stretch it back to even a zillion years – the blame is always on the paarpaan, the Brahmin. Who cares about evidence as long as the one who is blamed is the Brahmin?

There is no such sustained attack on dominant non-Brahmin castes. No serious questioning of who actually holds power today. No real discussion of internal hierarchies within the Dravidian ecosystem. No account of how the Scheduled Castes have lived under governments that endlessly boast about establishing “social justice.” That conversation never happens and will never happen. Because that mirror is dangerous – it is looking at them.

So the Brahmin is kept alive in the story, mocked when convenient, abused when useful, summoned when legitimacy is required, dismissed, and then quietly brought back on stage when a photo-op is needed – rinse and repeat.

Remove the Brahmin from the narrative, and what remains isn’t social justice. It’s a power structure that doesn’t want to reflect upon itself. That is why the obsession doesn’t end. And that is why, after a hundred years of claiming victory, the supposedly defeated enemy still sits right at the Centre of their politics.

Hydra is a political writer.

The DMK government has refused to permit Hindus to climb the Thirupparankundram Hill and light the Karthigai Deepam at the Deepathoon at the top of the hill – this, despite repeated court orders.

Amid all this, DMK supporters, the Dravidianists and Brahmin/Hindu haters have launched a tirade against Justice GR Swaminathan, given his background. One among them is self-styled ‘activist’ Piyush Manush.

He has been repeatedly targeting Justice GR Swaminathan by his caste, calling him by name and speaking disrespectfully in his videos and posts on social media.

In one video, he accuses the judge of prompting people to “set fire to Tamil Nadu”, he says, “Swaminatha, you are not telling them to light the Karthigai Deepam, you’re telling them to set fire to Tamil Nadu – what a dangerous fellow you are. ‘Sanatana books, aksu, taxu’… You are that judge who went on stage to say ‘Someone who belongs to Sanatana Dharma will never do wrong,’ That means you will not punish someone who believes in Sanatana Dharma. Won’t you, won’t you? Ayyo, this is not just about Thirupparankundram alone.”

He also references an unrelated temple dispute, accusing the judge of pressuring district authorities in a case involving a minor temple allegedly witnessing tension between Christian and Hindu communities. He mocks the judge repeatedly, saying “Swaminatha, Swaminatha,” and alleges that the judge is provoking law-and-order problems instead of preventing them.

“In another place also he’s doing the same kind of nonsense. The man calls the Collector; the Collector says, ‘21 cases have already come up, FIRs have been filed.’ In some small temple, in a temple that stands on just two cents of land, it seems there has been some clash between the Christian community and the Hindu community. To make sure no problem arises there, he (the Collector) is trying to maintain it. But this man insists, ‘No, the lamp must be lit there.’ Who is truly a good devotee, what is real devotion – we don’t know. But after seeing something, when they are trying to ensure it doesn’t turn into a law-and-order situation, you jump up against it, Swaminatha, Swaminatha. You saw, right, you saw? He, history will talk wrongly about you. In a Tamil Nadu that usually stays peaceful, you are trying to turn it into a riot park. You, Swaminatha.”

In another clip, Manush denies the historical and ritual significance of the Deepathoon site itself. He insists that the Deepathoon is “just a survey stone” allegedly placed by the British and ridicules devotees, claiming they are performing worship over “a stone used for survey work.” He further mocks Hindu traditions and labels devotees as “Sanghi fellows” who would worship “anything.”

He is seen saying, “Swaminatha, Swaminatha… that isn’t even a Deepathoon (lamp pillar), Swaminatha – only now this news has come out, and I’m honestly shocked. The name of that temple is Uchchi Pillaiyar Temple. Why is it called Uchi Pillaiyar Temple? Because for Murugan, they light the Deepam at the Pillaiyar temple that stands at the peak, that’s why it has that name. They lit the Deepam there. This man couldn’t tolerate that. For Swaminatha… actually the correct name to say is G.R. Swaminathan, he’s not just some High Court judge, ayyo, and who is he – he is “ava, ava” if you don’t show respect to ‘ava’, how can you… you, Swaminatha, ‘ava’…

That is just a survey stone, Swaminatha. They’re saying it’s some stone the British placed for their survey. Now, ayyo, for that one stone you’ve created such a big drama. Hey, Vivek’s comedy is exactly fits here – will you fellows worship anything you Sanghi fellows, why? You do some puja and go, fine. But why are you turning all of Tamil Nadu into a battleground over it?

Anyway, if you look at that stone – even I was wondering, ‘How on earth will a lamp burn on this?’ It’s just a rock. If you think about what it really is, this is all it turns out to be: a survey stone used for survey work. You’ve taken that survey stone and done all this drama around it, you Sanghi fellows.”

Piyush has a history of taunting and mocking Hindus, especially Brahmins and Hindu customs. He mocked people when the Tirupati laddoo adulteration issue broke out, he also made perverse comments about Chidambaram Dikshitars.

In a provocative speech at the Bison Success Meet, director Ameer Sultan—currently under investigation over drug trafficking allegations linked to the Jaffer Sadiq case—sparked controversy for his pointed remarks on religious and supernatural cinema, seemingly mocking films like Kantara.

During his address, Ameer Sultan challenged journalists who questioned the social impact of director Mari Selvaraj’s hard-hitting films. He scoffed at critics who accused such works of creating divisions in society, calling the notion absurd. Ameer pointed out society’s double standards: while movies about invisible gods and non-existent ghosts (alluding to spiritual blockbusters like Kantara) are celebrated, films about caste—the harsh, visible reality that torments millions—face backlash.

“Nobody has seen god, but if you make a film about it, people celebrate. Ghosts don’t even exist, but humans are worse than ghosts. Ghosts flee in daylight, afraid of humans,” he quipped. Ameer questioned why movies confronting real-life pain and caste injustice should be suppressed, while fantastical narratives receive the public’s adulation.

Given how Kantara became a cultural phenomenon for its rooted portrayal of bhakti, Bhoota Kola, and the spiritual connection between man and nature, Ameer’s comment was viewed as a typical Dravidianist swipe — mocking India’s indigenous belief systems while glorifying divisive identity politics.

This is what Ameer Sultan spoke at the Bison Success Meet: “These journalists are asking Mari one question repeated – Why are you making these kind of films? They say that you’re trying to create problems within in society. I saw how ridiculous such questions were. A God who is invisible, and a ghost that never exists – many films are coming about them and is achieving victory. Nobody has seen god. But if you take a film about it, people are celebrating. Ghost, it doesn’t even exist. I think man is worse than a ghost. That’s why you see that these ghosts come at night. Because during the day it is afraid of humans. Films are being made on these. But the caste that we see in front of our eyes, its ill effects, pain and torture, and someone saying that such films should not be taken is what I feel absurd.”

Who Is Ameer?

Ameer Sultan, a Tamil filmmaker known for his Islamist-Dravidianist leanings, has faced growing scrutiny over his close ties with Jaffer Sadiq, a former DMK NRI Wing official accused of running an international drug-trafficking network. Dubbed Sadiq’s “bestie,” Ameer was named in an ED chargesheet alleging money laundering through films and was summoned by the NCB in April 2024 in connection with the smuggling of pseudoephedrine worth ₹2,000 crore. In October 2024, a special court summoned both Ameer and Sadiq as part of the ongoing money-laundering case. More recently, Ameer was accused of participating in a coordinated smear campaign against Justice G. R. Swaminathan, aligning with the DMK’s broader ideological ecosystem.

At a forum hosted by the Dravidianist YouTube channel “The Debate,” filmmaker Ameer attacked Sanatana Dharma and Brahmins, claiming as a Muslim he stood outside the caste system. He accused “Aryans” of creating caste, linked honor killings to Hindu epics, and praised DMK as Tamil Nadu’s positive force. His comments included sweeping generalizations, targeting practices like Vinayagar Chaturthi as dominated by “intermediate castes” while alleging Brahmins remain aloof. He also quoted EV Ramasamy Naicker (hailed as ‘Periyar’ by his followers) saying “Islam is the best medicine to eliminate racial discrimination.”

On 19 September 2025, a large rally was held in the city, organized by a coalition of groups, including, Dravidianist film personalities, and Islamist outfits to demand an end to Israel’s ongoing war against the Palestinian.

The protest, which took place on Langs Garden Road in Pudupet, saw the participation of over 5,000 individuals, including leaders such as Thol. Thirumavalavan, the head of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, M.H. Jawahirullah, president of the Manithaneya Makkal Katchi, Dehlan Baqavi of the Socialist Democratic Party of India, rabid Separatist Thirumurugan Gandhi, the coordinator of the May 17 Movement, and Dravidianist personalities like Sathyaraj and Prakash Raj, as well as director Ameer and Vetrimaran.

While addressing the rally, Dravidianist actor Prakash Raj stirred controversy by holding Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi partly accountable for the violence in Palestine. He stated that the crisis was not solely Israel’s doing, but also the result of support from the United States and the silence of leaders like Modi.

Prakash Raj said, “Why are you artists coming here? If speaking against an injustice is politics, then we will speak politics. There is a poem, this war will end, all the leaders will hand shake and leave, but the truth is that there is a mother waiting for his son, a woman waiting for her husband, children waiting for their father. We do not know who sold this nation and land. But we know who paid the price for it. This is what will happen if we remain silent. There is an answer for them who ask why do artist like you talk like this. A poet who says that if I do not want politics in my poetry, I want to hear the sound of birds. If I want to hear the sound of birds, the sound of warplanes must stop. The rain is coming. Finally, I will say a word and speak. What I, all of us, have to say to this world is that even if it is a wound to our individual body, our silence will heal it. But if I remain silent and do nothing for a wounded nation, it will be more of an injury to a country and humanity. Therefore, before we die… we should not die. Let us fight. This voice will be heard. This is not only Israel’s fault but also America’s which supports it, and also Modi, who remains silent, is also responsible. This is not only Israel’s fault, but also the responsibility of the United States, which supports it, and Modi, who remains silent. Everyone who chooses to stay silent is also responsible. “

Speaking at the protest, DMK stooge Sathyaraj said, “The massacre happening in Gaza is unbearable to watch. How can they go and drop bombs with such a lack of humanity? When you see those children dying, how can the person who attacks Gaza sleep peacefully? Does he have no humanity? They say man evolved from apes, but these people haven’t become full human beings; they stopped halfway. That’s why they have this kind of mindset. The world nations must stop this; the UN must make a decision. Every time a community fights for its freedom, this is how genocide happens. This is how our Tamil brothers, who strived for the Tamil community to flourish in Sri Lanka, were brutally killed. Not just the fighters, but innocent people too were killed. Here too, in the name of war, Israel is planning to wipe out an entire community. The USA is aiding and abetting it.

Everyone might think, “If we hold a meeting in Chennai, will that war stop immediately?” Yes, it will. With today’s social media, if we raise our voice against injustice from any corner of the world, it will reach the entire world. A woman and a man working in the American military were arrested for protesting that America should not give them missiles and weapons. A lone woman and man, who work in the American army, raised their voices loudly without caring about anything, when I saw that, it made me so emotional.

Participating in a meeting like this is the duty of artists like us. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the leaders and comrades here. We actors, like me, my brother Prakash Raj, Vetri Maaran, and our brother Ameer, we act in cinema. That’s a business. We have some talent, and we use that talent to earn money and support our families. But if our popularity, our fame, our reputation is not used for such human rights and human liberation causes, then there is no point (m*yir*kum) in being a famous actor.

For these leaders, going to jail has become an ordinary thing. For my brother Thirumurugan Gandhi, it’s a normal matter. For all the leaders here fighting for the oppressed people, for them, this struggle, the police beatings, and jail are an everyday occurrence, like my brother Thirumavalavan. The people sitting on this stage are the real heroes. We are all “shadow heroes.” Everyone should understand that. Therefore, when we raise our voices against the injustices happening in the world, all people must come together and raise their voices. This is my request. There is no religion, no caste, no God, and no country in this. There is only humanity. Don’t think this is a meeting in support of our Islamic brothers. This is a meeting in support of humanity. Don’t forget that life is common to everyone.”

Sathyaraj also took a moment during the rally to read out a statement of condemnation issued by Dravidar Kazhagam chief K. Veeramani, expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people and denouncing the ongoing violence.

Similarly speaking at the protest, Dravidianist director Vetrimaran said, “I believe it is the responsibility of every one of us, as an artist and as a human being, to stand in support of people wherever they are being oppressed and wherever they are being killed by oppression. On that basis, what is happening in Palestine is a planned, century-long, systematic genocide. Knowing that civilians and children are taking refuge in schools and hospitals there, they are throwing bombs. For hundreds of years, they have been destroying hundreds of acres of olive trees that are a source of livelihood for them.

They have been doing this continuously, but now they are acting with a very specific and determined plan. Today, Gaza has been declared a famine zone. The UN has declared it as such, which means one in five people are dying of hunger and one in five children are malnourished, without any nutrition. All aid is outside, and they are not allowing it inside Gaza. It is the duty of all of us to condemn this planned massacre, this genocide. I consider participating in such a protest to be my duty and my right. All human beings should gather at this place to emphasize this point. Just now Sathyaraj sir said, “Will this bring about change?” Change doesn’t happen all at once. But it is our duty to register our protest. On that basis, we have gathered here to show that we stand with the people of Palestine, the people of Gaza. I request that we continue to express our voice of protest like this.”

However, the duplicity of the Islamo-Dravidianists were evident. Those who now vocally condemn Israel’s actions were silent when Hamas and other Palestinian militant groups launched a large-scale attack on Israel on 7 October 2023 an assault that marked the beginning of the latest round of violence often referred to as the “Gaza War” or “Israel-Hamas conflict.”

The same individuals failed to speak up during major domestic tragedies, such as the Kallakurichi hooch incident, where 69 people lost their lives, and the illicit liquor deaths in Ekkiarkuppam, Marakkanam, which claimed 14 lives. Additionally, there was minimal reaction to the custodial death of Ajith Kumar and the honor killing of Dalit techie Kavin. The only notable exception was Thirumavalavan, who condemned the honor killing but avoided criticizing his political ally, the DMK.

More than 5,000 people took part in the protest.

Baqavi emphasized that Israel had been relentlessly bombing Gaza, displacing over 900,000 Palestinians who were left without refuge.

Jawahirullah condemned the ongoing attacks, criticizing the escalation of violence in Gaza. He also pointed out that while Israel continued its actions, the U.S. had blocked a United Nations resolution calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in the region.

The Dharmasthala “mass burial” claims crumbled in a matter of weeks as the ‘whistleblower’ and the lady whose alleged daughter went allegedly missing years ago in the holy town confessed that what they had said was a lie.

While the likes of The News Minute tried to push the propaganda to a level, they were ably aided by a group of YouTubers in the Tamil media space.

Several of them had begun by talking about the Sowjanya murder case back in March/April 2025.

Following this most of them received gag orders from the court that prevented them from peddling lies against the revered Hindu institution – Dharmasthala.

Despite this, there were many who kept pushing conspiracy theories and all kinds of concoctions that were alienish in concept – it was very clear that what was being said was purely to generate views and confuse the viewer. Let us take a look at a few such YouTubers who aided in keeping the lie afloat.

Maayam Studios – Karthik Maayakumar

With a blatant disregard for factual accuracy and verification, Karthik, the host, repeatedly builds entire videos around unconfirmed rumors, graphic allegations, and speculative theories, often presenting them as breaking news. He frequently admits that key claims such as the discovery of human remains lack official confirmation, yet he dedicates significant airtime to detailing them. This “report first, verify later” approach prioritizes sensationalism over truth, misleading viewers and spreading unverified information that can cause public panic, harm reputations, and distress families of missing persons.

Furthermore, the content actively interferes with serious criminal investigations. By disclosing specific, unverified details and speculative narratives, he is prejudicing public opinion. He also exploits emotional and sensitive topics for engagement and monetization. He manipulatively focuses on the anguish of grieving families, uses horror-movie language, and juxtaposes tragic themes with jarring advertisements. This not only trivializes human suffering but also commercializes tragedy, reducing serious allegations to clickbait fodder.

Another major issue with these videos is the politicization and polarization of the issues. He frames the entire issue as a political battle, amplifying partisan accusations without providing balanced reporting. He also violates ethical and legal boundaries, including potential contempt of court by discussing topics covered by gag orders and engaging in defamatory speculation about individuals. His rhetoric encourages distrust of authorities and subtly promotes vigilante sentiments, which can have dangerous real-world consequences. Here is a look at how many videos he has posted on the issue and the clickbait cover pictures and headlines:

Nakkheeran & Damodaran Prakash

Nakkheeran and Damodaran Prakash have severely maligned the Dharmasthala institution by presenting unverified, graphic allegations as established facts. They sensationalized claims of mass murders, sexual violence, and institutional cover-ups without providing credible evidence or official corroboration. By naming specific individuals, including temple administrators and political figures, they engaged in defamatory storytelling that pre-judges guilt and undermines due process.

Their use of horrific, detailed narratives including unverified stories of acid attacks, child victims, and organ theft, exploiting emotional triggers to provoke public outrage. This irresponsible framing not only damages the reputation of the temple and its associated individuals but also risks inciting communal tension and vigilante action. Their content disregards journalistic ethics, judicial boundaries, and the basic necessity of verification, substituting truth with conspiracy-driven entertainment.

Jeeva Today

Jeeva Today posted only one video but it was damaging enough. He once again made unsubstantiated accusations like the other YouTubers. The channel repeatedly presented the whistleblower’s claims as verified truth, weaving together decades-old unrelated cases to construct a false narrative of systematic abuse and murder linked to the temple. Using graphic language, clickbait titles, and exaggerated victim counts, Jeeva amplified baseless theories of a high-level cover-up involving police, politicians, and the judiciary. The channel’s reliance on speculative storytelling over factual reporting eroded public trust in institutions and prejudiced ongoing investigations. By framing the temple administration as guilty without evidence, Jeeva not only maligned a respected religious institution but also endangered the possibility of a fair legal process.

P.S: It has been brought to our notice that Jeeva Today posted several videos making unsubstantiated allegations about the temple administration.

Roots Tamil

Roots Tamil contributed to the defamation of Dharmasthala by politicizing the allegations and spreading unverified claims under the guise of political commentary. The channel hosted discussions that framed the issue as a partisan battle, accusing BJP and RSS leaders of orchestrating a conspiracy without providing proof. It By blurring the lines between allegation and fact, Roots Tamil reinforced a toxic narrative that the temple and political entities were complicit in horrific crimes. This approach not only damaged the institution’s standing but also polarized public discourse and undermined the integrity of the investigation.

Edison Vlogs

Edison Vlogs engaged in reckless sensationalism by portraying themselves as heroic investigators uncovering a “D-Gang” operating within Dharmasthala.

While the channel posted only 2 videos, including an “interview of a key witness, he presented unverified claims of hundreds of murders and burials as fact, using dramatic visuals, speculative narration, and emotionally charged language to heighten fear and anger. By detailing alleged secret investigations, naming locations, and speculating about victim counts, Edison Vlogs not only spread misinformation but also jeopardized the safety of sources and the integrity of the official probe. The channel’s self-aggrandizing style and conspiracy-laden content misled viewers, eroded trust in lawful institutions, and caused significant reputational harm to the temple and its community.

News I Tamil

News I Tamil exacerbated the damage through highly inflammatory and unsubstantiated reporting, claiming thousands of murders and a systematic cover-up at Dharmasthala. The channel relied on anonymous sources, manipulated emotional anecdotes, and presented speculative numbers like 4,000 or 9,000 victims without any factual basis. By directly accusing temple authorities and political figures of involvement in rape and murder, and by mixing in communal elements such as targeting Brahmin women, the channel fueled social hostility and distrust. Its disregard for judicial gag orders, sensationalized storytelling, and monetization of tragedy demonstrated a clear abandonment of journalistic ethics, further harming the institution’s reputation and public trust.

Yoot Evidence

The Yoot Evidence channel’s videos were also indulging in blurring the line between allegation and verified fact. The core failure lies in its treatment of the whistleblower’s claims – graphic, unverified accounts of hundreds of burials, torture, and sexual violence – as established truth. By narrating these horrific details without forensic or legal corroboration, the video primes viewers to accept these allegations as undeniable reality, pre-judging the case and undermining the principle of ‘innocent until proven guilty’.

Furthermore, the videos construct a vast conspiracy narrative by guilt-by-association, linking the current allegations to decades-old, unrelated missing persons cases without any forensic connection. This bundling of tragedies creates a false impression of a long-running, systemic conspiracy. This is compounded by the use of inflated, un-sourced numbers (“hundreds of bodies,” “400-500 missing women”), which magnify the scale of the alleged crimes without evidence.

Despite acknowledging a court gag order, the video strategically implies the involvement of the temple administration and political networks through leading questions and suggestive framing, creating a perception of a cover-up while technically avoiding direct naming. This feigned neutrality masks a clear accusatory stance.

Ask Raghulan

One of the poorest videos in terms of information – the YouTuber doesn’t even know that the place in question is Dharmasthala and not Dharmashala. We bet he doesn’t know where the latter is located.

He pushes the unverified facts as established facts, without providing a single piece of credible evidence. This baseless narrative is designed purely to provoke outrage and fear. He repeatedly undermines India’s democratic institutions, pre-judging the investigation and judiciary by declaring a cover-up before it has even concluded. This erodes public trust in law enforcement and the courts. Furthermore, the commentary escalates into incitement by openly calling for violent vigilantism, wishing for a “dictator for a day” to execute the accused, thus explicitly rejecting the rule of law and due process. The content is saturated with harmful conspiracy theories, including baseless claims of government censorship and international espionage, and promotes a generalized distrust of all religious institutions.

Saravanan Decodes

The videos from “Saravanan Decodes” represent a severe and dangerous escalation in the irresponsible coverage of the Dharmasthala case. Saravanan openly defies legal authority by knowingly violating a court-issued gag order, first attempting to circumvent it and then misleadingly claiming it was “removed” to justify publishing highly prejudicial content. The content itself is egregiously sensationalist, employing graphic, horror-movie-style descriptions of unverified sexual violence and murder purely for shock value and emotional manipulation. He completely abandons any pretense of journalistic impartiality by presenting the whistleblower’s allegations as undeniable fact, conducting a full “trial by media” and directly implicating the temple administration and specific individuals in monstrous crimes without evidence.

Furthermore, the videos weave decades of unrelated cases into a vast, unverified conspiracy theory involving organ theft, murder, and a complete systemic cover-up by police, investigators, and even the judiciary. This narrative is designed to poison public opinion, incite outrage against the accused, and irrevocably undermine trust in all state institutions.

Paari Saalan

The Paari Saalan interview with Varun, while posing as a thoughtful discussion, blurs historical facts, religious rules, and unverified allegations into a single, misleading narrative. It uncritically amplifies the whistleblower’s grave claims of mass burials and sexual violence, presenting them as plausible truth despite the lack of forensic or judicial verification. Furthermore, Paari Saalan irresponsibly links decades-old, unrelated missing persons cases to the temple administration, implying a long-running conspiracy without any evidence.

They directly accuse the Dharmadhikari family of suppressing crimes and wielding excessive power, blending historical context with speculative allegations. By emphasizing the temple’s Jain origins and its shift towards Hinduism, the narrative injects a communal undertone, framing the issue as one of religious and financial dominance rather than focusing on factual inquiry.

Sha Boo Three

RJ Sha’s content often conflates unrelated historical cases, such as the Saujanya (2012) and Padmalatha (1986) incidents, weaving them into an unverified grand conspiracy tied to the temple administration. This not only misleads viewers but also prejudices public perception against the institution. The channel also misrepresents legal processes, criticizing gag orders as suppression of free speech rather than necessary judicial measures to ensure a fair investigation. Furthermore, the videos risk inciting communal and regional tensions by framing the issue in divisive terms, such as highlighting the whistleblower’s ethnic identity or suggesting broad-based corruption across all government and media institutions.

Overall, the entire set of YouTubers in Tamil Nadu, used the unverified claims made by the masked man as gospel truth, tarnished the image of Hindu institutions, made outlandish claims – be it the “gory details”, the numbers of allegedly dead/missing women, and what not. These videos were made purely for driving engagement and monetization.

Several other prominent Tamil YouTubers such as Madan Gowri, Bogan, etc had been posting videos on the Sowjanya murder case and connecting it to the Dharmadhikaris of Dharmasthala. Owing to court orders, the videos were removed, yet some still remain.

Despite the court orders, these videos in Tamil Nadu have been peddling the anti-Hindu Dravidianist narrative and portraying all Hindu institutions as evil and dangerous.
