Vedanta’s Sterlite Copper plant in Thoothukudi, which started producing medical-grade oxygen after the second COVID wave broke, said in a press release that it had produced 500 tonnes of medical-grade oxygen up till yesterday.
According to a press statement released by the Sterlite Company,” oxygen supply for medical use at the Sterlite Oxygen Production Station reached the milestone of 500 tons yesterday. So far 542.92 tons of liquid oxygen for medical use and 265 oxygen gas cylinders weighing 10 kg each have been distributed.”
Sterlite Company in its statement said that the oxygen produced at the Thoothukudi plant is distributed to 17 districts: Tuticorin, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Kanyakumari, Madurai, Theni, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai, Thanjavur, Namakkal, Dharmapuri, Ranipettai, Krishnagiri, Karur, and Salem.
The press statement concluded by adding, “We are working to improve our facilities so that we can better assist individuals. Thank you to everyone who assisted us in reaching this goal, particularly the district administration.”
