Sri Lanka is progressing towards zero number of COVID patients as the number of recoveries are rising fast on a daily basis with few positive cases.

Out of a total of 2078 positive cases, 1955 patients have recovered with only 11 deaths. On Sunday only two positive cases reported whereas more than 40 patients were discharged. The country has not seen any community surge for over two months and few positive cases over past days are from people returning from abroad and who are undergoing quarantine.

Sri Lanka navy camp had seen the maximum number of cases since the COVID outbreak but a total of 885 navy personnel have recovered with only a few under the treatment. Meanwhile, schools are reopening in the country in a phased manner and the regular academic activities have started partially for the first time after they were closed due to COVID.

The government has approved the schools to reopen in stages under the health guidelines. Universities have been allowed to reopen for second and third-year students while examinations for fourth-year university students have already commenced on June 22.
