Former Telangana & Puducherry Governor and the BJP candidate from South Chennai, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, has drawn attention to the ill-maintenance of the Kamaraj Memorial, expressing concern over its neglected state. Soundararajan’s remarks came as she observed sugarcane husks piled up in front of the prestigious memorial, prompting her to address the issue publicly.

Speaking to ANI, she said, “Go around, there are dried plants, dried leaves, no maintenance at all. Yesterday to check out the route, I came this side. On seeing this, I stopped the car. Rubbish (garbage), sugarcane husks were heaped in front of this prestigious and emotionally attached place. I came the next morning as well, it was in the same state. This locality comes under my constituency, my campaign tour is this way, and I thought I had to pay homage to him. I should tell them about the pathetic condition of this memorial.”

Highlighting the stark contrast between the poorly maintained Kamaraj Memorial and the well-kept Karunanidhi Memorial, Soundararajan accused the DMK government of disrespecting the legacy of Kamaraj. She said, “You know how the other memorial, which they built recently, Kalaignar Karunanidhi’s Memorial, you know how it is maintained and how this is maintained. Congress is shameless to have an alliance with these people.” She emphasized Kamaraj’s significant contributions to Tamil Nadu’s progress, particularly in education and the implementation of mid-day meal schemes.

Soundararajan further criticized the Congress party’s leadership, alleging a lack of respect for their late leaders and underscoring their focus on succession politics. She called attention to the importance of preserving the legacies of leaders like Kamaraj, who hold significance beyond party lines.

She remarked, “Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge came this side, they didn’t bother to pay homage to this prestigious leader, a non-corrupt leader, who was the reason for the development of this state, and who gave free education with food. Now they are lauding that they are giving breakfast. This leader set an example to the whole world giving midday meals. When our Hon’ble PM announced demonetisation, he said if Kamaraj were alive, he would have appreciated me because it is a non-corrupt practice. We have the habit of respecting all leaders whether they belong to different ideologies or different parties. I don’t think Kamaraj is only Congress’ pride, he is also the pride of Tamil Nadu…”
