Sonia to step down as Congress chief, again

Following a letter written by 23 senior leaders of the party demanding a leadership overhaul in the party, Congress President Sonia Gandhi has communicated to her party members that she is not interested in leading the party and is willing to step down from her position, the Hindustan Times reported.

She has asked the party leaders to find a new chief when they convene on Monday (August 24).

It is said that this letter has been in the pipeline for the past one month with senior leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Kapil Sibal helping to draft it.

23 senior leaders that includes Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad, former Union Ministers Kapil Sibal, Manish Tiwari and Shashi Tharoor had written to Sonia Gandhi asking for ‘fulltime effective leadership’ who is ‘active’ and ‘visible’ in the field.
