Singer Chinmayi questions DMK Chief MK Stalin

Playback singer, dubbing artist and entrepreneur Chinmayi Sripada has questioned DMK chief MK Stalin over his tweet wishing #MeToo accused lyricist Vairamuthu on his birthday (July 13).

Stalin had tweeted “Kavipparasuram Vairamuthu today, aged 66. His poetic Tamil’s will remain 16 always. He stitch diamond and pearls (Vairamum, Mutthum), in the garland of the Tamil Mother. He received the love of Kalignar. I wish that he lives a 100 years and create works that will live for millenniums.”

In response to this tweet, Chinmayi Sripada asked about the DMK’s stance on women safety and sexual harassment and added if the DMK chief will demand a fair investigation for all survivors of sexual harassment. “What will you do to make sure justice is done? How will you disengage with known sex offenders?”, she said in her tweet.

Chinmayi Sripada spearheaded the #MeToo movement in southern India when she opened about her sexual harassment encounter with lyricist Vairamuthu. Since then, she has been at the receiving end of not just the DMK and its online trolls but also from Tamil Nadu’s mainstream media journalists.
