“Sharia Law Starts Now”, “Islamic Caliphate Of New York” – “Liberal” Mamdani Supporters Celebrate His Victory

"Sharia Law Starts Now", "Islamic Caliphate Of New York" - "Liberal" Mamdani Supporters Celebrate His Victory

The election of Zohran Mamdani has been met with a wave of celebratory rhetoric from a coalition of his core supporters, including segments of the Muslim community and progressive (read woke) supporters, though the nature of the celebrations has raised eyebrows among more moderate and conservative observers.

Celebrations Laced with Provocation and Schadenfreude

Across social media, the victory has been marked by posts that seem to prioritize cultural provocation and partisan gloating over unity.

In one viral video, a group of women dance to a song spelling out Mamdani’s name, with the caption: “POV: you wanted to move to a Muslim country, but your city became one.”

This sentiment was echoed by other supporters who, wearing Mamdani campaign t-shirts, were recorded making inflammatory statements such as, “Sharia law starts now… Islamic Caliphate of New York starts today, baby,” treating the implementation of religious law as a political punchline rather than a matter of serious governance.

The celebrations also revealed a deep-seated animosity toward political opponents. One supporter expressed visceral satisfaction, stating, “God, there is just something so electric, so satisfying about knowing that my MAGA parents, wherever they are, are probably having a horrible night tonight. I literally just got goosebumps thinking about it. Like they are in such a bad mood, probably, about the fact that Zohran just won and Prop50’s gonna pass. Like God, wow. I am sorry, it just makes me feel good that my MAGA parents are probably upset right now.”

Another linked the win to the death of former Vice President Dick Cheney, posting, “When the day starts with Dick Cheney being dead and it ends with Mamdani winning! Yes!,” framing the election within a narrative of celebrating the demise of political adversaries.

A Coalition of Young Ideologues and Community Blocs

Mainstream media coverage, such as a segment from Channel Seven Eyewitness News, noted the historic nature of Mamdani’s win, making him one of the most powerful Muslims elected to office in the nation. The report highlighted his support among Muslim voters in Astoria, Queens, many of whom expressed pride in his heritage but insisted their support was based on his “vision and his ideas.”

However, the campaign’s most fervent energy came from young voters drawn to Mamdani’s identity as a Democratic Socialist and his promises of a “more livable, more affordable New York City.” His election night watch parties erupted into street celebrations, captured on citizen videos, with young supporters describing him as “level headed and seeking justice and fairness.”

Skepticism and Concerns Over Populist Promises

Despite the euphoria, there is significant skepticism within the community. Some residents expressed unease and concern, questioning the feasibility of Mamdani’s sweeping campaign initiatives. One opponent suggested the mayor-elect “just said things to get the popularity and especially with the young ones,” who they characterized as energetic but politically naive and “not questioning how he’s supposed to do that.”

What is noteworthy is the impatience of his young, ideologically-driven base. While they have enthusiastically supported Mamdani’s rhetoric, the central question now is how much time they will give him to translate his ambitious, far-left promises into tangible action before their support wavers.

However, the non-Muslim white and brown supporters of Mamdani are likely in for a rude surprise when he exposes his Islamist face fully and thoroughly.
