Self-styled godman Daati Maharaja arrested for violating lockdown

Self-setyled godman Daati Maharaj was arrested and an FIR registered for allegedly praying at a Shani temple in Asola area in New Delhi, violating lockdown conditions and flouting social distancing norms. It is said that Daati Maharaj along with a few people had performed pooja at the temple on Friday at 7:30 PM.

“It had come to notice that some photographs of a ceremony at Shani Dham Temple were being circulated on Social media wherein the social distancing norms were not being followed and a religious congregation was organised in contravention of the lock down guidelines.” , the Commissioner of Police Atul Thakur said.

Videos and photos of the religious held at the temple went viral on social media on Saturday following which the police took action. In the video, Daati Maharaj can be seen cutting a take along with few other men and women.

Violators have been booked under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), Section 34(acts by several in furtherance of common intention) and other provisions of the Epidemic Diseases Act and Disaster Management Act.
