The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is to investigate Swapna Suresh, Sarith and Sandeep Nair following the arrest of M Sivashankar, the former Principal Secretary to Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan. They have submitted a request for updating the custody of the three accused. This is to be addressed in court on Monday.
Sivasankar was found to be non-cooperative on the third day of the investigation. Following this, the ED decided to question all the accused together.
M Sivasankar, one of the primary accused in the diplomatic gold smuggling case was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday. He is alleged to have helped Swapna through his chartered accountant Venugopal.
The gold smuggling scam came to light after the diplomatic cargo consignment containing 30kg of smuggled gold from UAE was seized by the Customs. While the accused Swapna Suresh, Sandip and Sarith Nair had been already arrested, there were ongoing investigations to nab the kingpins, one of them being M Sivasankar. Sivasankar has been arrested under Section 19 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
