Sahayam IAS who is considered as an upright and honest officer in Tamil Nadu has decided to take the political plunge. He is known for his work in the granite quarry scam during his tenure as the Madurai District Collector. Due to his uprightness, he has been transferred several times and sometimes to less lucrative positions.
Sahayam, who last served in the Tamil Nadu Scientific Development Board, took voluntary retirment a few months ago. It is to be noted that there is a lot of support from the youth of Tamil Nadu for Sahayam. There were several junctures where he had constantly been badgered by the state’s youth, saying that an honest person like Sahayam should come to politics.
A public meeting was held in the Adambakkam area of Chennai on behalf of Makkal Paadhai to invite Sahayam to politics under the heading of “Arasiyal Kalam Kaanbom”. A large number of young people from across the state attended as it was advertised saying that all those who think Sahayam should come to politics can attend. Sahayam, who was present at the meeting, addressed the gathering as a special guest.
Speaking at the event, he said, “Come on, young people of Tamil Nadu. We will create a new corruption-free Tamil Nadu. Let’s look at the political arena. I concede to your desire to see me in the political arena. I want to travel with you. Let’s do this together.” The announcement of Sahayam’s political entry has caused excitement among those who have been waiting for his political entry.
However, he has not declared whether he will be floating a new outfit or join the national or Dravidian parties in Tamil Nadu.
