As the Indian Air Force (IAF) is just weeks from acquiring the S-400 anti-aircraft missile defense system from Russia, the director of the Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC), Dmitry Shugaev said that Russia may also deliver its cutting-edge S-500 anti-aircraft missile systems to India and China in the future.
Shugaev said that Russia is looking at India, China, and other countries with which it has a long-standing partnership to sell S-500 Prometey which is designed for intercepting and destroying intercontinental ballistic missiles, as well as hypersonic cruise missiles and aircraft.
As per information provided to the public, this next-generation surface-to-air missile system has a range of around 600 kilometres (370 miles) and Russia may export this variant to friendly countries.
On Monday, November 1, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the Russian military will receive the first batch of S-500 missiles soon and said it is important to enhance the country’s air defences following a surge in NATO military activity near Russia’s border.
