Reports of Ukrainian soldiers beating Indian students at border emerge as Russia closes in

As more Indian students reach India from Ukraine, some disturbing news has now emerged wherein reports of Ukrainian soldiers beating Indians and firing tear gas shells near the border with Romania. 

As per a report by PTI, one student named Tina Kumari, who is a first-year student in a medical university in Ukraine, said, “Ukrainian soldiers were treating us very badly at the border. They were beating boys, firing tear gas shells and also bullets in the air and the gate was being opened for 10 minutes and just a couple of students could enter. There was no support from the Indian embassy in Ukraine or at the border,”.

The students said the situation at the Ukraine border was very bad as thousands of students jostling were trying to enter Romania and the treatment meted out by the Ukrainian soldiers was very harsh.

As per eyewitness reports, the Ukrainian soldiers were not allowing the Indian students to cross the border and were beating most of the boys. 

One student said, ‘They kicked a girl in front of me. She fainted. They were beating us. The situation was very horrific,”. However, once they reached Romania, they were provided with food and other things.
