RaGa’s top aide Digvijaya Singh tells a Pakistani that Congress would reconsider abrogation of Article 370 if it comes to power

Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh recently told a Pakistani-based journalist on the Clubhouse app that if the party wins power at the Centre, it will overturn the Modi government’s decision to revoke Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.

The alleged chat was released on Twitter by BJP leader Amit Malviya, who slammed the Congress party for mirroring Pakistan’s aspirations.

When asked about the future of Kashmir if Congress comes into power, Digvijay Singh told Pakistani journalist Shahzeb Jillani, “When they withdrew Article 370, there was no democracy in Kashmir, and there was no ‘insaniyat’ (humanity) since everyone was imprisoned. Meanwhile, ‘Kashmiriyat’ is something that is the fundamentals of secularism. Because in a Muslim-majority state there was a Hindu king and both worked together. In fact, the reservation in Kashmir was given to Kashmiri pandits, therefore, the decision of revoking Article 370 and reducing the statehood of J&K, is a sad decision. And the Congress party will certainly have to relook at this issue.”

During the same discussion, Digvijay added on religious fundamentalism, “I honestly feel what is damaging to society is religious extremism, whether it is Hindu, Islam, Christianity, or Sikhism.” It just breeds animosity, which in turn breeds violence.”

Religious groups must realize that everyone has the right to follow their own traditions and faith and that no one has the authority to force their views and religion on others, he added.

The Narendra Modi-led BJP government decided to abolish Article 370 on August 5, 2019, in order to integrate Jammu and Kashmir into India.
