Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to visit India in October, and several high-level meetings are slated to take place. The Ministry of External Affairs also said that this would include an annual bilateral summit.
Anurag Srivastava, the MEA spokesperson, said, “There is a full calendar of forthcoming high-level exchanges between the two sides. The SCO and BRICS foreign ministers meetings, the NSAs’ meeting, the Defence ministers’ meeting are scheduled. Of course, we have the annual bilateral summit coming up in October when President Putin is expected to visit India. Then in the last week of June, Defence Minister (Rajnath Singh) had visited Moscow. The Indian military contingent had participated in the 75th anniversary of the victory in the second world war. ” He added that the two sides discussed regional and national issues.
Srivastava went on to say that Foreign Secretary Harshvardhan Shringla and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister had interacted based on all India-Russia exchanges. This was following Prime Minister Modi’s congratulatory message to the Russian President over the successful national vote on constitutional amendments.
The SCO and BRICS summits that were scheduled to happen this year were cancelled due to the Wuhan virus pandemic. “The new dates will be decided depending on the COVID situation in the participating countries,” Srivastava said.
