Pro-Congress Pro-Islamist X Handle ‘Dr Nimo Yadav 2.0’ Claims Livelihood Gone After Govt Withholds Account

The Delhi High Court was informed that the pro-Congress pro Islamist X handle “Dr Nimo Yadav” has been withheld in India following a blocking order issued by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) on March 18 under the Information Technology Act.

As reported in Bar and Bench, the submission was made by X before Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav during the hearing of a petition filed by Prateek Sharma, who operates the account and has sought access to the government’s blocking order.

According to documents placed before the Court, the government directed the blocking of the account on the grounds that it was allegedly spreading false narratives involving the Prime Minister and portraying him in poor taste. The order also cited the use of manipulated images, videos and AI-generated content in posts that were deemed defamatory and capable of affecting public order and internal security.

The materials, described as confidential, were shared with both the Court and the petitioner.

In his plea, Sharma argued that the continued blocking of the account has caused loss of income and disrupted his professional engagements, stating that the handle served as a primary source of livelihood.

The Court was further informed that, along with Sharma’s account, 11 other X handles were also blocked under the same March 18 order issued under the IT Act.

Counsel for the petitioner submitted that if specific offending content had been identified and communicated, corrective steps could have been taken. The government’s counsel sought time to examine whether a mechanism exists to address the grievance.

Justice Kaurav granted time to the Centre and posted the matter for further hearing next week.
