Following the low-key announcement of MS Dhoni’s retirement from international cricket on Instagram, a lot of top-shots from the sporting world and beyond have penned tributes and words of appreciation for him. Joining the list is Prime Minister Modi, whose two-page letter was shared by the captain himself on Instagram.
The tweet said, “An Artist, Soldier and Sportsperson what they crave for is appreciation, that their hard work and sacrifice is getting noticed and appreciated by everyone. thanks, PM @narendramodi for your appreciation and good wishes.”
The letter paid tribute to the achievements of MSD, and how big an impact it had caused to the world of cricket. Here’s an excerpt from the letter.
“On 15th August, in your trademark unassuming style, you shared a short video that was enough to become a long and passionate discussion point for the entire nation. 130 crore Indians were disappointed but also eternally grateful for all that you have done for Indian cricket in the last decade-and-a-half...”
The two-time World Cup-winning captain shared an emotional video on Instagram covering his entire cricketing journey with the Men in Blue. Meanwhile, Dhoni will continue to play for Chennai Supers Kings in IPL 2020 starting September 19 in the UAE.
