Pontiff of Uttaradi Math condemns the brutal killing of Gopalan in Kumbakonam

Sri Sri Satyatmateertha Swami, the present pontiff of the Uttaradi Math has strongly condemned the brutal murder of Gopalan who was hacked to death on the night of June 30 near Kumbakonam.

“The recent murder of Gopalan at Nachiyar Koil Kumbakonam, a devotee of our Mutt and person who rendered impeccable service, is highly reprehensible. On behalf of all the Brahmins, we strongly condemn the gory incident.”, the letter reads.

It added, “There are many temples and monasteries in all corners of Tamil Nadu. They are the spiritual hubs for all great ascetics”.

The pontiff urged the government to provide adequate protection for those working in the temples and monasteries.”We extend our full support to the ongoing struggle and urge the government to ensure that such incidents do not happen again.”, the letter said.

Gopalan (68), father of Vasudevan, an RSS worker and in-charge of Madavilagam area of Nachiyar Koil, was brutally murdered in cold blood on Tuesday (June 30) over a property dispute by Saravanan, a BJP man. Gopalan was a retired teacher and was serving as a manager in the Uttaradhi Mutt overseeing the properties held by the Mutt in Nachiyar Koil and Kumbakonam areas.
