Political bias of AK Rajan Committee Report gets called out

The DMK government in Tamil Nadu had constituted a committee headed by former Justice AK Rajan to study the impact of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).

The committee which submitted its report to Chief Minister MK Stalin on September 14 makes a case for doing away with NEET claiming that it puts rural government school tamil medium students at a disadvantage.

However, many have pointed out that the report is not at all objective and has been prepared to buttress the ruling DMK government’s politics over NEET.

Dr. Sumanth C Raman had posted on his social media that the report makes selective usage of data and makes several conclusions without evidence.

He pointed out that the data on students from government schools who got MBBS seats pre and post NEET is selectively put out. While every data is from 2010-2020, the data for this particular header alone is from 2014.

“Why is the trend between 2017-18 and 2020-21 not given any importance at all? Many of the parameters seem to be heading towards pre NEET days but the committee does not even mention this. eg.FC as % of OC from 23% to 11%, 15. More students from TN have been clearing NEET with each passing year. This does not even get a mention. Why no data on this?”, he pointed out.

He also asked how did the committee decide that 99% of students who qualified through NEET took coaching.

The report makes several blanket and unsubstantiated claims that doctors will not be available at all in future in Tamil Nadu if NEET was to stay.

BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai said that the report fails to disclose crucial data for the years 2010-2014 on the number of government school children who secured admissions to government medical colleges.

BJP Tamil Nadu Spokesperson SG Suryah pointed out that the former Judge AK Rajan has his bookshelf decorated with pictures of Karunanidhi and MK Stalin. “It would be foolish to expect that a report prepared by committee headed by such a person would be devoid of political bias”, he said.

He added that the committee seems to have given a report that was dictated by the DMK government and called for a complete boycott of the biased report.

Indu Makkal Katchi took a jibe saying that the AK Rajan committee report is a fiction like a Tamil movie script.

Sriram Seshadri, a TV debater and political commentator said that the committee fixed the outcome and worked backwards which explains the several contradictions and wilful missing data.
