PM Modi cancels rally after security breach in Congress-ruled Punjab, CM Channi denies lapse

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was all set to travel from Bathinda to the War memorial in Husseinwala in Punjab, by Helicopter in the morning today. Due to unforeseen weather conditions, the plan to travel by Helicopter was changed to travel by road.

When the PM’s convoy reached a flyover, a protesting group of people reached the flyover and blocked his path. In this hustle bustle, the PM’s convoy waited on the flyover for almost 20 minutes.

The Ministry of Home Affairs said, “The Punjab government was informed that the PM is going to travel plans are changed. But, it doesn’t look like any arrangement have been made for the security of the PM. The Punjab government has to submit a detailed report with regard to this major security lapse.”

With regard to this case, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi denied any security lapse. He said at a Press Conference, “I express regret that PM Modi had to return during his visit to Ferozepur district today due to obstacles on route. We respect our PM. I had to receive the Prime Minister at Bathinda today but those who had to accompany me tested COVID positive. Hence, I did not go to receive the PM today as I was in close contact with some who tested positive.

We had asked them (PMO) to discontinue the visit due to bad weather conditions and protests. We had no information of his (Prime Minister Modi) sudden route change. There was no security lapse during the PM’s visit. If there were any security lapses, then we will conduct an inquiry. There was no danger to the Prime Minister.”
