Punjab has been successfully controlling the spread of the COVID pandemic by micro-containment and house-to-house surveillance strategy. PM Modi has appreciated Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh and has asked other states to follow same strategy during the video conference with Chief Ministers of States and Union Territories.
In the video conference when Mr. Singh was elaborating on the steps taken by his government, the PM Modi intervened and suggested that all states should follow the same strategic approach to effectively counter the pandemic.
While explaining the Punjab model of COVID management, Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh said the state government was working on a multi-pronged strategy to fight the pandemic. Some restrictions had been imposed over the weekends and holidays, and strict enforcement of all protocols was being ensured through fines. The focus was currently on the micro-containment strategy to isolate small ‘mohallas’ or village wards rather than close down larger areas, he said, adding that a special app had also been launched for house-to-house surveillance to detect any possible cases and persons with co-morbidities to catch high-risk patients. Punjab’s contribution to the all-India cases tally is less than 1%.
As of 17th June, Punjab has 3267 cases, with 2443 of them getting cured and 70 deaths.
