In a shocking incident, a Christian pastor engaged in domestic conflict with his wife resorted to violence, going so far as to attempt to kill her and then stage her death as natural.
Vimalraj, an assistant pastor in a Advent Christian Church, Ponmar hails from Ottiambakkam, Chennai, and was married to Vaishali, a native of Mumbai in 2020. The couple had an 11-month-old daughter. Reports suggest that the couple had been experiencing conflicts with the pastor allegedly demanding dowry and resorting to physical abuse often. He was also apparently dejected with the birth of a girl child.
In a tragic turn of events, during a dispute a confrontation ensued when Vaishali accused her husband of infidelity. Enraged, Vimalraj physically assaulted her, leading to her death by strangulation.
In an attempt to conceal his crime, he and an accomplice staged a scenario claiming Vaishali’s death was due to sudden suffocation and rushed to the hospital, only to be pronounced dead en route and brought back home for public condolences.
However, suspicions arose among relatives upon observing injuries consistent with strangulation. They reported their concerns to the police, prompting an investigation.
The Thalambur police intervened before the funeral and started their investigation.
Despite initially denying involvement, Vimalraj eventually confessed to his heinous actions, leading to his arrest and imprisonment.
Consequently, he was promptly arrested and incarcerated, with further investigation ordered by the authorities. The deceased body has been sent for post-mortem.
