An oldman tried to set himself on fire in front of the Chennai Collector Office. He alleged that his land was grabbed by a DMK councillor named JK Manigandan from Puludivakkam.
The 164th birth anniversary of Malayapuram Singaravelar was commemorate on 18 February 2023 at the Chennai District Collectorate. Political leaders were on the way to pay their respects.
An old man who came with a petition to meet the District Collector, suddenly poured kerosene on his body and tried to set himself on fire.
Immediately those who were present at the spot poured water and doused the fire. Later the police rescued the old man and took him to the police station for further investigation.
The old man told the reporters, “My name is Gunasekaran. I have been living with my family in Aadambakkam area under Alandur constituency for 50 years. The DMK councilor JK Manigandan is occupying my house and threatening me. Despite filing a complaint regarding this in collector’s office, no action was taken. That’s why I tried to set myself on fire.”
Later, the police called his family and investigated the matter.
Referring to this incident, Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai said ”Under the DMK regime, TN is slowly turning into a jungle for the lawless!”
A senior citizen tried to self-immolate in front of the Chennai collectorate.
